The nerf was not happy but the buff to the imp is rather nice. I remember it was like that for a while back in the 3.0 PTR. Was a really happy buff when it came up. Looking forward that since my imp crits a good amount too.

Do you have any unholy DKs or balance druids? If so, you're generally better off not bothering to put up a curse at all than putting up CoE.

We have a Moonkin in the raid only sometimes, less often lately as, due to the afformentioned healer issues, he's had to go Tree quite a lot in raids lately. As for DKs, we have a couple but to be honest I don't actually know what spec they are.

Which ability in the Unholy tree gives the equivalent to CoE? I'd never even thought about it because my RL told me to use CoE, so I've just been using it.

Regarding the upcoming changes, it always annoys me when Blizz nerfs warlock damage. If it's just a trade-off in how the damage comes (buffing the imp while nerfing F&B) it's not so bad, but it seems like anytime I get close to competing with mages and rogues (which I'm not even close to the latter yet) Blizz sees fit to nerf my class again.

In any event, the reduced cooldown on Soulshatter is pretty damn sweet, especially since, if I don't need to use CoE anymore I'm going to drop the range talents for Destro (which also reduce threat) in order to be able to use curses more easily. I may need to pop shatter from time to time in order to drop down the aggro list. :P

Yeah. I just started PvPing on my lock and I'm wearing of mix of purples and blues with a couple greens tossed in, hardly amazing gear by any stretch. My chaosbolt has smacked people for 10k and my conflagrate for 8k, couple that with the initial immolate and the ticks from the immolate and it's just insane damage.

Of course, the second people in BGs look sideways at me I die. :P

Ebon Plaguebringer a requirement for any and all respectable unholy builds. It causes any disease applied by that deathknight to also cause Ebon Plaguebringer which puts the +13% magic damage debuff on the target.

I freaking love destro in BGs. I generally start with immolate, and start a CB cast. Most folks in BG aren't going to start casting a heal because of immolate, and aren't smart enough to dispel immolate (which gimps the hell out of me). So they start either running at me, or start casting some offensive spell. But yeah, as soon as chaos bolt finishes you can instantly thow conflag without waiting for the GCD, which usually makes CB and conflag hit at the exact same time. If both CB and conflag crit, that usually will mean about 19-21k damage. If the poor soul is still standing, drop a shadowfury or deathcoil on him and throw an incinerate or two, and shadowburn as necc. It's probably the most satisfying thing ever to be able to essentially stunlock as a caster, being able to kill your mark in as little as 5 seconds.

Also it is so great to see a rogue pop cloak of skill, and turn him into a smoking crater with an 8k CB crit.

Probably make it mandatory for every spec.

The numbers are pretty close, but for 0/13/58, it looks like immolate will still win, mostly because of better scaling.

Every other spec lifetaps more than enough to have 100% uptime with the glyph, so at the very least the argument about overtapping for the buff can be laid to rest.

I sorta wonder about this as well. My Warlock is currently 0/13/58 and on most bosses in 25-man Ulduar, I rarely if ever lifetap anymore. I'd hate to have to work that into my priority list, especially since there's so much raid damage in Ulduar it's usually best not to be blowing health unnecessarily.

My thinking's around the same - On XT hard mode last week, I went to 50% before I lifetapped once, and I still had 20% mana. Even with doubled return from the glyph, I don't think I'd lifetap even every 40 seconds on most fights. Improved soul leech scales pretty nicely with intellect, too - the better your gear the longer it takes to burn down enough mana to lifetap. Other builds still burn mana at the same rate when they have a bigger mana pool.

    http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=17900031818&sid=1

The thread I pulled the statement from, by the way. They're test dummy numbers (EJ hadn't updated the theory threads this morning when I looked), but you pick up more spellpower than spirit from raid buffs, so I think the difference will be bigger. Still probably not that huge.

I loved that fucking bug. Instead of while clearing out the demons in Void Reavers room having "Oops, I had just refreshed Banish", the whole raid staring at a frozen demon for 30 seconds or so.

So I went to AN and OK yesterday and spotted another lock in group with voidheart helm and T5 shoulders. hey maybe someone can compete with my dps. Nope, almost doubled his dps overall. 8-)

    man, I love destruction.

I was also thinking about the new changes to that imp talent. About how often would an imp crit on a boss? I'm thinking with the moonkin buff and the debuff, that's 10% right there, then maybe 6(?)% for the imp itself so about ~16% overall?

Edit: oddly enough I'm wearing the voidheart shoulders and the T5 helm. He must of had some more tier gear because he was 1k over me in both health and mana.

How are you wearing Tier 5 in level 80 instances? The greens you get in WOTLK are better than tier 5.

It is 6% base, but you're missing the 3% all crit debuff. Ret pallies and at least one other class I'm forgetting give that. So about 19%, firing every 2 seconds, and with the hit change, you won't be taking a 17% miss with your imp.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect someone in T5 level gear to have replaced most of their gear by 75 either, especially not with the generally poorly itemized greens. At best they'll have some more spell power, but you'll give up a bunch of other stats or ratings in the process, especially when you factor in that your T5 is probably gemmed and/or enchanted any you probably won't bother doing that to leveling gear.

Maybe if they've been running dungeons quite a bit, but even then it's pretty sidegradey at that level.

Well, T6 stuff was budgeted at 141ish, and the northrend blues were in the 170s and 180s, so they were probably about even. A lot of the T6 set bonuses were still great, though, and most of the time the tier gear was itemized better and more specifically.

Blues would definitely be better than T5, but it's not like you're farming instances for drops in the mid-70s, so it isn't that hard to see why you'd still be using it.

So, I need your folk's help.

I really like my destro lock, but I'm having a hard time it seems putting out really good dps.

    In a 10-man raid situation, I usually run around 2.5k. In a 25, last I checked, I was doing 3k. :(

Now, I know my gear isn't the best, but seriously, I should be able to increase my dps by more than 500 with the additional raid buffs. Hell, I just can't ever seem to push past that point.

Character's name is Semhirage on Khaz Modan. Gear isn't the best, some of it is frankly complete crap, but any advice you can give in regards to rotation/stat priority would be great. Or, if I'm simply at one of those gear threshholds, where I kinda suck now, but a few pieces makes all the difference, hearing that would be nice as well, and make me less inclined to ditch the character in frustration.

Go do Heroic Violet hold and get this trinket. Then when you're over hit-capped, regem for spellpower and haste, but focus on spellpower.

Also, Respec with this from elitistjerks.

The basic cast order is Immolate, Conflag, CB, Incinerate. Always Conflag or Chaos bolt as soon as its off CD, and keep immolate up without clipping it.

Yeah, you're really going to want to hit-cap yourself without needing to gem for it.

The priority for gearing and gemming after that is spellpower, followed by haste. If you need to meet a socket bonus (and this should only happen if the total benefit is > 19 spellpower, which quite frankly it very rarely isn't), get either a SP/haste gem for yellow or SP/spirit gem for blue. Otherwise, pretty much, just get to gearing up. You're an Inscriptionist so you don't need to grind sons of hodir rep, get some enchants on those shoulders. Get Lightweave on your cloak, too. That is flat-out the best profession enchant for casters available.

EDIT: Glyph of Chaos Bolt is pretty...bad, by the way. I recommend Glyph of Incinerate. 2s off a cooldown sounds nice in theory, but then you have to remember that if you ever, ever don't use it exactly as it comes off cooldown, you basically don't have a third glyph.

Plus Glyph of Incin is just better DPS. :P

Anyway, according to datamined t9 set bonuses, they're looking at having the 2pc bonus be 10% extra pet crit, which seems kinda meh up until you remember oh shit, they're thinking of changing empowered imp to be a 100% crit chance.

That really sounds like an amazing set bonus for Destruction. It's practically a free 10% crit. Anyone else think that we probably shouldn't be getting our hopes up about the Emp. Imp changes? I just can't help but think that a talent that essentially boils down to "You make two crit checks" with the rate the imp casts is going to be...well, nerfed.

3K is absurdly high given how shitty your gear is. You are at 1444 spell damage and, from what I can tell, 15% hit with talents. If you can pull 3K dps in that I am amazed. I think you need to lower your expectations and realize that until you get better gear you will not do much better DPS.

Replace Glyph of Shadow Bolt with Glyph of Incinerate.
