Yea, with all the inter-brand crossovers, plus whatever was going on in Superman/Batman, I think it's well established that there are still alternate universes out there.
Seeing the hardcover of IC reminded me how confusing and complicated the continuity of superhero books must be to outsiders. Imagine being a curious reader and trying to figure out why there are 4 Supermen on the cover.

But all of the alternate earths, like the the one with wonder woman fighting nazis, the CSA one, and whatnot are supposed to be officially gone, right? There is only one Earth in the DC reality now, right?

I am honestly confused, not being a smart ass.
I think that the multiverse remains, but a large part of it did indeed collapse and coalesce. So while comics from Wildstorm, Vertigo, Marvel, Image and so on all still inhabit a variety of parallel universes for crossover purposes, all the comics published by DC under their main imprint are supposed to be contained within one such universe.
Which is fucking retarded, but whatever.
Earth-1 is pretty overcrowded right now, and it's hard for a lot of characters to be believable against the backdrop of all the massive-scale shit that world has witnessed. It must be a bitch for writers if they try and keep it all together.
And yeah, 52 is pretty obviously going to end with the return of the multiverse. The hints dropped in the IC hardcover are too obvious.
Hm. i hope so. i wonder which characters will wind up where? We really need a silver age-esque reality, and a more modern reality. A pulp reality would be hot too. at least three realities, with golden age, silver age, modern. Maybe a reality for the next generation too, with the younger heroes like Teen Titans or something, and some way for characters to move between earths somehow.

The Planetary boards say that Worldstorm and Planetary have been dropping hints about the DC-multiverse and it's 52-return. But I've been reading them all and havn't really noticed anything about it.
I don't think we need a Silver Age earth because we already had a Silver Age and we've moved on.
Used to be you could tell a story featuring characters from another decade and say it took place in the "past", not some alternate Earth where it happens to be a different year.

The MC2 Universe wasn't that bad, though perhaps a bit too hokey and upbeat for me.
Anyway, people like future stories, though "Man, the future sure is weird!" stories generally aren't so interesting that you'd want to keep those worlds around on a permanent basis.

I like the future that's been presented in Superman recently. I'd love a book about Luthor and the Parasite fighting to take back the world. Or an Age of Apocalypse series about Sunfire using his angst to fight Apocalypse.

I can't claim to have read all of IC, but that was my impression from what I read. Yech.
Also, it removes the possibility of a lot of stories. There are stories you just can't write anymore since the multiple Earths are gone.

Give me one too!
Well this is sound reasoning.
Also I don't really think I get the
Ross'd. Theres also the Perez original.

That was actually the exact image I had in mind when Jordyn mentioned that, so I guess I was right after all. :^:
Have you all had your Alex Ross fix today?

If we say no, do you post more?
Do you?
