Hey you guys, you've helped me on another occasion before (albeit for an entirely different reason), so maybe you can help me out now

I have MSN, and I'd like to set up MSN Mobile on my cell phone. Just the basic kind that you set up through your msn client, so I can appear online on msn while I'm out and people can send me messages.
The problem is, my MSN email address is GMail account. Going to Microsoft's settings for msn mobile only leads you to a sign-in for Microsoft Live...and obviously I don't have a Live account. Actually I do - an old hotmail account, but I don't use it anymore, and I'd think it would have to be the email address that's synonymous with what you sign onto MSN with.
I know it
can be done with extraneous messaging services - my friend has a Yahoo email address for her MSN and she was just messaging me on her cell-phone minutes ago - but I have no idea how to set it up.
My cellphone came with a proprietary Microsoft client for full MSN messaging, but it requires a monthly subscription fee after a 30 day trial, and I don't have any damn interest in that. Furthermore I don't have any data plan anyway so it costs me for every minute I'm connected to the internet.
So. Help? Thanks in advance!

One more question though - and I've seen this a few times on other forums, where people are looking for help - I can't change my settings so that people can see that I'm online on my phone and message me. The box next to "Allow people on my contacts list to message me while I am on my mobile device" is grayed out. Any solutions?
