Let's see, on the one hand we have a half dozen solid zombie-blasting lightgun games. On the other, we have an RE4 Wii port and the horribly received DR:Wii abortion. Why oh why might people be dissapointed that we STILL don't have a single decent original RE4 Wii style game?
Exactly. As good as RE4 is on the GC, RE4 Wii Edition is by far the best version of the game, and there is no reason that they couldn't make a game that A) Plays better by being completely designed around the Wiimote interface and Looks even better.
It is criminal that we haven't gotten this game yet, and I really think it is due to Capcom being very lazy. I am not at all interested in RE5 because it controls a lot worse than RE4 Wii Edition, and even though I have spent a lot of time with the demo, it is really hard to go back to the old control scheme.

C'mon now Jihad. Did you actually play DR: Wii? I own it and love it. If you really wanted a RE4 Wii Style game... IT'S RIGHT THERE!
I'm an RE whore and yet I couldn't even slog through Umbrella Chronicles. Lightgun shooters are one genre that I was never saddened to see fade into obscurity.
So I can't help but feel disappointed when they could be doing a proper REmake of 2.
Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced its plans for a big comeback of its multi-million-selling franchise, Resident Evil to the Wii video game system this year. Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, the sequel to the highly successful Wii title Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, is in development exclusively for the Wii and is set to hit North American retailers this winter.
Capcom also introduced its plans for a new Resident Evil “Classics” line, which will bring the critically acclaimed Nintendo GameCube classics, Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero exclusively to the Wii, allowing a whole new audience to experience the world of Resident Evil.
So I guess that they are porting REmake and RE Zero to the Wii.
I bet Code Veronica is on the way too.
Edit: Lazy bastards.
Edit2: Their web site says they will be $29.99, so at least that's something. Although wasn't RE4 Wii Edition that price in the USA, and that was a full price game in the UK
Edit3 (I think that is a record for me): Didn't these already get released in Japan, but were never said to be planned for release elsewhere.
RE4 Wii was indeed $30 in Amurrica, so you might be boned, Lewie. I have virtually no interest in any of the "traditional" REs prior to 4, so the remakes don't do anything for me, but I'm still eager to hear more about Darkside Chronicles.
Oh man. It's tough seeing the other character in front of you like that, as it makes it all the easier to imagine this as an RE4ish game.
Still, I'm going to rent the shit out of this. And then beat it in like 5 hours or so and then never really feel like playing it again because light guns are always kinda short lived.
Hmm... is the game really going to look like that? It's quite an improvement over Umbrella Chronicles.
Well, the smaller video makes the quality look nicer, and some of that was CG spliced in, but I think it looks nice enough. I like the shaky camera effects, which is a smart way to keep people from focusing on the static-screen nitpicking all too common amongst gamers.
I've learned never to really make any assumptions about how a Wii game (or any game, really) will look until I have it sitting in my console, playing on my TV.
The Famitsu article on Darkside Chronicles has some really nice details. The game is definitely greatly improved from UC (at least from Capcom's perspective) and they're putting a lot more effort into it this time.
- The stories that Umbrella Chronicles did not cover, are RE2, RE4 and RECV. These are all stories involving Leon or Claire. Like the title says, this isn't just "2". DSC will cover more scenarios than just RE2.
- The game volume will contain as much content as UC.
- Visuals are greatly improved, the Havok physics engine is licensed and used for the game, and the realtime lighting will be improved to be more accurate this time.
- Like RE4 and 5, the game will employ a system of tweaking the difficulty of the game closer to the player's skill while playing the game. It is still being tweaked.
I'm curious to hear more about this whole "Evade system" nonsense. If it's just QTEs, then bah (although RE4 Wii's QTEs were fun as hell). But if it's more of a Time Crisis-y dodge system that you can use anytime, that would be awesome.
There has yet to be a better next-gen ass than PN03.
CAPCOM ARE YOU TAKING NOTES YET?!
i dont see it being too hard, both the same studio.
also i feel the need to stress THE VIDEO SEEN IS THE GAME LESS THAN 40% COMPLETE.
im hesitant to suggest if we're seeing bullshots or not. No UI or crosshair layout. I remember the first UC going through like 4 different versions of the cross hair.
Wow. I thought graphically Umbrella Chronicles actually looked pretty awesome (great character models and lighting, etc), but this actually does it one (or ten) better. I'm curious to see how it plays.
In regards to the REzero and Remake for the wii, I will pick them up, as I never beat remake, and never played zero, so it will be an opportunity to get them. It is kind of bullshit that Capcom milks that shit though.
As for DSChronicles...this looks SO good. I am really really excited for this.

I bought that RE pack for the GameCube the day I got a Wii (REmake, RE:0 and RE4), so I am playing those on my Wii already. I did get RE4 Wii for the new controls, but if REmake and RE:0 are the same, obviously I dont need them.
Because of the static camera in REmake and 0, would they even be able to re-do controls for them?

What I don't get about the Wii remakes is they can't just port the GC games and throw in IR control can they? The static camera system used in those games wouldn't work for that kind of aiming, unless they gave them more of a RE4 type view...

I'm 99 percent certain they don't mean "IR pointing or anything resembling RE4" in these remakes and it's more like "mapping GameCube buttons to the Wiimote and Nunchuk."

If that's true, I think this is the weirdest 're-make' ever, because it's not even a re-make, is it?
Its just the GameCube game, on a bigger disc. If you use the GameCube controller (which would be the best way, I'd imagine), it would be identical?

It's effectively a reprint rather than a remake. The Wii provides a new audience and an easy opportunity to try and flog them some of the back catalogue. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this and any talk of 'milking things' is pure crazy talk. If you already own the games then these re-issues aren't for you! Instead they are for the people owning a Wii who do not have the games in any other form. Simples.
I'm actually really surprised they haven't made something like a RE4 sequel/offshoot for the Wii yet. It would sell like a trillion copies.
Well, both RE4 Wii and RE Umbrella Chronicles sold more than a million worldwide, I believe. RE4 Wii was a port from last-gen priced at $30 US; RE UC was a compilation of older games in light-gun style priced at $50 US. Capcom was clearly happier with one over the other one.
Well yeah their business decisions are clearly sound, but I haven't bought an RE game since RE4, and wont be getting any of these ports. It just would be awesome to get another RE in the vein of 4 built specifically for the Wii.

DR: Wii is RE4 but in a mall. But people are far to dismissive of the game to actually give a damn.
If the spectacularly unsurprising market failure of a downgraded not-really-port of a B list IP is what's keeping us from getting a proper RE Wii game, I'm going to be pissed off. Seriously, Capcom. I want to play a real RE game and don't like lightgun games. Like, you know, most RE fans considering that light gun games are a very niche genre. Do you just not want our money? It's right there on the table. I'm going to turn around, and when I turn back one of two things will end up on that table in exchange:
1) A real RE Wii game. Heck, I'll even give you a loan - just an announcement will do.
or
2) Your severed genitalia, which I will deposit on the table after removing them in the blind rage that overcame me upon noticing the absence of option #1

its not such a bad deal. the games basically take the tried and true game and give it a little bump to this generation of TVs. i just popped in REmake for the cube and its a LOT uglier than the fanboyish section of my brain wants to remember.
If im going to replay the series, id rather play it in glorious widescreen.

Haha. It makes me angry that everyone just decided that all reviewers are telling the truth about the game... Even though they can't get shit right recently (RE5 having online co-op Mercs mode, Fear 2 not having a melee attack, etc). They disregard it as trash even though they've never played it.

sorry if thats misleading.
its still true 480p widescreen, not like 1080 or anything.
not the most trusted source but user review is better than nothing.
In other news, if you do want to play resident evil in progressive scan - you can pick up the Wii edition which supports both (higher resolution and ACTUAL widescreen support - I have both versions, and the Wii looks far superior (when played on the Wii) than the GC version running in forced 480p mode

honky if its any consolation, you had me convinced in your first impressions post way back when. Chop till you drop is a great game. Im simply not interested in RE4 without the atmosphere, even with the amazing controls.
Gamers need to learn to shut the fuck up and play games because theyre fun and not on the basis that people say its a good game.
Hmmm, no one else seems to be mentioning this. Weird...
too busy bitching. no really. most people are just complaining. its true that its a game thats been released for a last gen system, but there are benefits to getting it.

pretty good for a game thats only like 35% into production.
Hopefully they reskin leon in that time, instead of the RE4 Bonii suit

The game is almost identical to the GameCube version but offers the full progressive scan support and a new game experience thanks to the new optional Wiimite/nunciak control scheme which lets players shake the Wiimote to ready their weapons, like the PS2 chainsaw controller, and another optional control scheme where players can playing using only the Wiimote in horizontal 8-bit style position.
