Thought I'd see who still plays this version of UT besides me. I also did a search prior to make sure there weren't any active topics on the game before posting..

Some coworkers of mine (past and present) still play this at least once a week together as time allows, and it's one of those games I just can never get enough of.

I had considered going to UT3 but my eMachine won't run it and on top of that the whole STREAM account thing was a little more than I felt I wanted to get involved with just yet.

Was wondering who else still plays this version of the game, and if so, how often?

Working arcade games I own: Ms. Pac, Asteroids, TRON, Defender, Robotron: 2084, T2, Sorcerer pin, SMC-1 juke

I play it occasionally. It would probably take a specific date and time to get me to join, though.

I don't think you need a Steam account to play UT3. There's just the option of registering UT3 with Steam if you want, giving you the ability to download it off of Steam wherever and whenever, as if you'd bought it from the Steam store.

I have it. I play it every now and then. I can never find a decent server, though. Most are playing some weird mods I'm not interested in. There's also a ton of demo serves only playing Rankin. If you know any decent servers that just play simple games like deathmatch let me know.

I can definitely send you some server details- the only real mod we play with is the one that allows you to quad jump and rapid fire, just bc it's more fun when there isn't the delay firing weapons like the shock rifle. Aside from that we don't do any other crazy mods.

My buddy is getting a new box for his server, and if you'd like I'll be sure to let you know when it's ready to rock. Are you available to play at night during the week? We usually hit like Tues or Wed at 9PM EST (or around).

You definitely don't need a Steam account to play the game. You do need to sign in with a name to play it though, but it doesn't take any personal information from you.

I'd also like to play with you vintage, I've wanted to play with good people for awhile. I still play it a fair bit, but people are either too cheap, not good, or they play the same map over and over.

Yeah. That'd be great. I'm in college so that keeps me busy most nights, but I manage to squeeze some game time in usually around 10 PM EST. Next week, though, happens to be my spring break so you can bet I'll be a huge nerd, as long as the girlfriend doesn't have something planned for me.

    Frem, Barth, anoffday,

Great to hear. When you get a sec PM me your email addys so I can keep everybody in the loop. I will also try to keep folks updated here in case more readers want to get on board.

We were playing at least once or twice a week for over the past year and a half until my buddy's server box puked. I am also in the market for a new machine very soon, so one way or another we will be on a new server in the next week or so.

I've been playing UT since 2000 and am a bonafide fan. I even have the "U" symbol on my motorcycle helmet :winky:

I have UT3 at home but I just bought this off gog.com even though I own the discs so I can put it on a thumbdrive and play at work without having to dig up my discs. I used to play Tribes 2 but my current thumbdrive got lost so I figured I'd try something different. I love UT2k4, I remember spending over 8 hours downloading the demo so a friend of mine and I could try it out. Absolutely fucking amazing, I remember how awesome and insane it was since it was the first FPS I'd played with vehicles and the fast pace of UT and UT2k3.

My buddy got his server back up and running last night, so we're going to try to put some scheduling together. I will PM you guys and let you know how best to get this rolling.

Also, I now have Quake IV loaded on my machine and will be loading Diablo II as well, for anyone who likes them too. And finally, I need to get my arse to the store to get a copy of UT3.

I guess bc I was soooooo drawn to UT1, I never really got into the vehicle piece. I am still an old school deathmatch junkie. I think the vehicles just got thrown in there to keep it in competition with HALO. I'm not saying I WOULD NEVER PLAY THE VEHICLE MAPS, I'm just sayin' I have enough fun going and finding the Redeemer and taking out a city block with it. I love that weapon so much I had a vanity plate on my motorcycle that read "RDEEMR".

I can see where running the vehicles would be fun, but like I said I got biased from the get-go. I guess bc when UT first came out, it looked to me like you were playing a comic book on your computer. The graphics were just so eye-candylicious to me, that I needed nothing beyond wicked maps, sick weapons, and a hand with which to fire them.

Driving and related games had been around for so long, I didn't want to go down that path of having them in my UT kool aid. So, I simply abstained, unless another friend of mine was hell-bent on playing a board with the vehicles on it.

Again, not saying they ain't no fun to drive around and blow stuff up with- I just wanted my UT to be the purest essence of UT possible

This is hands-down one of my favorite games of all time. Unfortunately my favorite thing to do was 1v1, and my second favorite thing to do was deathmatch. I only did Onslaught for fun, occasionally. And the only mod/mutator I ever enjoyed was instagib. It's hard to find good games that are non-modded 1v1 or DM. Let me know if you guys ever run your server with the quad-jump rapid-fire stuff turned off.

As long as you stay away from the "Race" maps, UT vehicles have very, very little to do with "driving" and way more to do with being "additional ways to totally fuck shit up in hilarious fashions."

Sticking grenades to a Scorpion and launching it off terrain into enemy camps before blowing it up never ceases to be funny.

Same with popping up from behind cover in the Cicada, letting off a volley of sixteen missiles, and watching as the oblivious Hellbender driver gets reduced to scrap.

Or suicide-flying a Manta over a Goliath, ejecting to land on top of it, and then serving the driver a faceful of flak cannon from point-blank while he furiously tries to get that goddamn leech of a footsoldier off his back. :D

Even though I've been really enjoying UT3 on my badass new rig, I think I just might have to put on UT2K4 to join you guys in some matches. Too much UT is never enough, and I've got the real estate to plop an install of 2K4 down, no problem. I'll really get involved if Assault matches come in to play, but I'm down for some old fashioned DM and CTF too.

Can I hijack this thread and ask what some of the best looking and most impressive u2k4 maps are, and where one can find them?

I remember a few which stood out from the crowd (one tall medieval city map, especially) but I can't remember their names or who did them.

You guys need to dig out your copies and get ready to rock.. I'm guessing between now and Sunday 4/12 there will be another posting of a game starting up. How much notice does everyone need? I'm trying to keep everyone up to date on both here and my home site, but it's a little hectic. Also, I found yesterday at the GameStop by my work that they had the UT Anthology (containing Unreal, Unreal II, Unreal GOTY Edition, and Unreal Tournament 2K4) for... 5 bucks! And that's NEW not used! Just wanted to put that out there for anyone looking to pick up a copy to have on standby..

Been a while since I played on any custom maps, however I know that UTPlanet and PlanetUnreal is where they used to come from for alot of the LAN parties I attended back in the day. I'd have to look up the URLs to see if they are still out there.

You should do the install and the latest patch just to be up to date. The only mod running is the quad jump and rapid fire that I am aware of, and I think for 2K4 it has that already included in the install in case you want to use it. We'll probably still be playing past 10PM EST if we get a good crowd, so definitely try to join if you can!

Not me tonight. I finally took the plunge and bought a new TV last weekend. As awesome as it is, I can't use my computer at the moment cause it was hooked in DVI-to-DVI. When I get an HDMI-DVI cable, I'll give it a shot and see if it works. I also have to buy a wireless internet card because I moved into an apartment where it's not feasible to run a wire to where I need it.

I believe the above link is for Unreal 3.

What everyone else is talking about playing is Unreal TOURNAMENT 2004. I just wasted a half hour trying to figure out where to install the above listed files.
