Can I hijack this thread and ask what some of the best looking and most impressive u2k4 maps are, and where one can find them?
To the original poster, what if anything do we need to play? I tried getting in but I had to download something that looked like it was going to take forever.
Hi Warder, all you need is a copy of UT2004, which can be found in the UT Anthology (it's on eBay and also at stores like Target and GameStop). The box will have 4 diff versions of UT in it, but we are only playing the 2004 version right now. You install that, and that's basically it. We had a newbie join last night, and the only tweak we had to make for him was we had to enable his router to accept traffic on port 7777. Once we did that he was connecting fine and we played for over an hour together. We do not run any custom maps, so there shouldn't be any downloading of anything needed.
If you want to give it a go sometime, I can also PM you some contact info for me to get you up and running!

Working arcade games I own: Ms. Pac, Asteroids, TRON, Defender, Robotron: 2084, T2, Sorcerer pin, SMC-1 juke
Back when UT was the flagship title, I think I lost a good three months of my life to Zark. Is it still alive and kicking in UT2k, or was it limited to the UT experience?
I am not familiar with Zark- is that one of the bots in single player mode? I've played Multiplayer all of my days in UT so I'm not sure of what that is.

What everyone else is talking about playing is Unreal TOURNAMENT 2004. I just wasted a half hour trying to figure out where to install the above listed files.

Sorry, I didn't realise the links for packs 1 and 2 had been removed. Turns out they might have gone under when Filefront was going through it's recent turmoil, I can't seem to find where to get them at the minute.

This does not bode well.
Zark was a server weapon-mod that replaced the normal weaponry with the sniper rifle, whose rate of fire was drastically increased. The end result was basically hyper-UT, where once one got used to it deaths happened extremely quickly.
Some of my greatest gaming memories was walking into a flag room and killing 5-6 people in a blink, then hauling ass out of there with 10 people who could do the same thing after me.

Also if you're looking for impressive looking maps, look for anything by Warbeast, his maps are fucking amazing. My two favorite ones by him is one Onslaught map called Yorda (named after the princess in Ico) and another one who's name escapes me but it's pretty much a mining shaft underneath a huge alien mining laser thing, it's pretty cool looking and is a mostly vertical level. He's also made one called Chimera that's pretty impressive.
No, I'm talking UT2k4 here. I don't know if the guy ever did any maps for UT3 or not but anyways.
edit: turns out he HAS made some UT3 maps as well as the UT2k4 ones, his personal site is here and here's a pack of 5 of his maps for 2k4.
edit2: I found the name of the other map of his I liked, the one with the mining laser, it's called Koma and should be included in the Community Bonus Pack 2.
Kickass. I will definitely have to check these maps out- does this mean if these were to be loaded on the game server, we might have an appearance from the almighty Darmak?

Well, me not appearing on your server has more to do with either working during the evenings, playing some other game, or being asleep whenever you have a scheduled game. :P
Everyone who attended came with their game faces on and were ready to rock the house. The game went so well, I went to bed still twitching, cursring, and snarling. THAT is when you know that your UT workout was productive.
We hope to see the numbers continue to grow, as the many of the crew listed above have been playing this game for a minimum of 2 years now, and simply can't get enough. If you have this game lying in a soft mossy bed of dust, now is the time to wipe it off with a clean rag and reload it. You'll be glad you did..
One of my most memorable moments of the evening was to launch the Redeemer on Deck 17 though one of the upper tunnels, and track it down the winding bend out towards the center platform, where it found Skull Leader, standing like a tourist on their first visit to Ellis Island.. I watched through the viewfinder in sick suspense, as his helmet started to pick up the acoustics of the approaching rocket- as he turned sloooooooooooooowly to identify what that annoying whistling sound was that was getting louder in his right ear, I detonated the nuke in his face. :winky: After all, UT is all about sharing what ya got!
I think JLC also learned to be careful what he wished for, as there were many times where I saw Unleasht chasing him down the road like a clan of angered villagers, complete with torches. JLC appeared to be running like a scared girl, missing only a flowery dress and pigtails.
Thanks again to those who clocked in for their free frags. The next event will be posted soon..

So over the weekend I'm playing UT2K4 with the crew, and a guy named juic3 comes in, hangs for about a minute, says we have the "wrong mods loaded", and leaves.
Do we have a "juic3" in the player community here? I have no clue who this guy was.

I generally tend to play UT in short bursts at odd moments in an ideal world populated by bloodthirsty robots. Also, I like hoverboards. My machine cannot handle the thing which is UT3, so I'm looking for a UT2004 mutator that puts these magical floating vehicles into play without either drastically changing the way the game is played or requiring me to enter random arcane commands into a console.
Are the ones in ChaosUT any good? I'd prefer to have something zippy, fun, and fragile that you can't fire from while riding ("game balance" seems to be a foreign concept to most vehicle modders; especially the ones which make giant floating blimps which can transport entire teams and nuke things with an orbital laser), but I'll settle for "zippy" and "fun", if that's not an option.

Let's not exaggerate here
I'm rusty as hell and was never that good even at my best...I do enjoy a good round of CTF though.
Trust me, I've played some people who shouldn't be playing anything beyond Tetris.. You did great.

Juic3. Ugh. If it is one of us, they should be ashamed. That's a fucking stupid handle.
