So, I'm going on a week-long trip to Berlin with my dad and stepmom. I'm incredibly excited, but I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for things that I should do while there. I'm a fan of art/music/history/science, so anything you could suggest, really. Any ideas?

    Museum Island.

    No really, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Museum_Island.

The Pergamon Museum is suposed to be awesome, but had too long of a line for me to get in (they just opened a new exhibit, though I understand you need to get there in the morning to not be waiting a long time.

The Egyptian one is awesome too, and then wander over the the cathedrals a short block away.

I stayed at a hostel named Helter Skelter which has an amazing club nearby (it had a fire breathing dragon, and was an artist comune with welded steel sculpture and graffiti everywhere). I think its name was like Tal- something.

    Berlin is freaking rad.

Berlin Zoologischer Garten is the coolest zoo I've ever been to, it's a really old place and it has some adorable animals.
http://www.zoo-berlin.de/ It's close to Bahnhof Zoo (from the famous book)

Museum island is a must. When I went last summer, I only had time to go to Pergamon museum and the egyptian museum. The pergamon had a babylonean exhibit on which was fantastic, the egyptian one was a bit meh..., or at least compared to the British museum.

The reichstag is a good visit as it's free and you get a pretty good view from the cupola. Other good places to visit were the TV tower and east-berlin townhall. The holocaust memorial is also very good, near the riechstag if I remember.

The Berlin wall remains are pretty uninspiring, but are kind of something to have a look at.

    Also this might be handy:

Well. Berlin is the best city in the world and there is a ton of shit to do. Museum island, though crowded, is definatly worth it. The Reichstag is ok, but can be combined with Museum island. Check out the eastern end for all the bars and soviet charm. There is a soviet built war memorial in the east of the city, its definatly worth the schlepp. What exactly would you guys like to do, I can give you more information on stuff that way. Like, if you guys are history buffs, the war memorial is good as is the concentration camp that sits at the edge of the city in the north.

Honestly, anything pertaining to art, music, history or science. I know that's incredibly broad, but I am very open to any very specific recommendations.

I really appreciate all the suggestions so far. I will definitely make sure to go to museum island.

Alright, sorry to raise this from the dead, but I am currently in Berlin. The Pergamon was an excellent idea, extremely worthwhile. Currently I'm staying at the Marriott in Potsdam Platz, there's an incredible amount of awesome stuff within walking distance. Does anyone know of any good places to eat or less-advertised places worth visiting?

There is a Bauhaus musuem that is a bit of a ways out there that is interesting as well. Other than that most of the stuff I saw in Berlin was pretty much on the main drag.

If you have a bit of a travel group together I highly recommend renting bikes and biking around to see most of the city that way, I ended up biking from my hostel to the TV tower to the Reichstag and then Bauhaus, and saw a ton of really need views and monuments along the way.
