IGN has got to play Tiger Woods 10 with Motion+, and they recorded video about it. Seems to work pretty much like promised. I just hope that power consumption won't be too much, as wiimote does already guzzle batteries in pretty fast pace. If you compare video to trailer, it is obvious that majority of lag comes from HD-TV that is used.
Incidentally, EA managed to achieve near 1:1 motion control in Tiger Woods '09 with the regular Wii Remote. So it's unsurprising to hear essential ideal 1:1 motion control with the addition of the MotionPlus.
Ultimately, I am very much looking forward to this and will be the first full fledged Wii golf game I get. Hopefully another company will come out with an equally-expected awesome arcadey golf game too.

I believe that Nintendo has found someone to do Mario Golf, as Toadstool Tournament wasn't released as a new play control game.

Yup. I guess that problem with developing new Mario Tennis game is that the Camelot isn't available. Therefore, Nintendo decided to plug this hole with quick-and-dirty port. As there isn't port of Golf coming, we can only conclude that Nintendo is already developing Mario Golf game. But who will do it? No idea.

I find this logic fascinating.

I think it's a shame that Camelot isn't doing the Mario sports games anymore. It must have been a terrible job using someone else's tired IP in a generic sports game (and doing it over and over), but damnit, they did a fine job.
Anyways, I hope EA allows for a realistic sim option for the swing mechanics that tries to emulate a real golf swing simulator as best as possible. So if your swing is too steep, the club face is too open on impact, etc it would all be reflected. If only they threw in Balance Board support as well to read weight shift.
A bit hard to tell in the video, but is the game picking up change in shaft angle during the back swing? Meaning if the player brings the controller back too steep (more vertical) or too flat (more horizontal) is the onscreen animation matching it?
I'm fine with it not perfectly matching visually as long as ball impact and flight behaves properly (i.e. if your swing plane is too steep, you're more likely to hit high slices, etc), but it would be nice to have a visual reference so you know you're off plane.
You could at least tell rotating the controller alters the clubface from the little indicator in the bottom right.
Can you not tell that the video is using X, Y, Z, Pitch, Yaw and Roll? The game is capturing the precise motion, not just a few partial vectors you waggle in.

Camelot gave a shot at making a Wii golf game. The result was We Love Golf. And unfortunately it used one of the weirdest swing mechanics ever. I'm not saying it was bad per se, but just weird and not intuitive for a Wii-based golf game. It was a waggle-based timing mechanic. Rather than just detecting your regular swing in some fashion.
Tiger Woods 09 very nearly nailed the accurate full detection of the player's golf swing using the standard Wii Remote.
The Motion+ will enhance the nuance of the swing to an even more accurate degree.
This is all very meaningful in a golf game.
The way I read your comment here sounds like you're saying that it just boils down to "shake the remote" to swing. But none of the Tiger Woods Wii games have been so basic, and 09 is actually pretty well developed in its motion controls. Given the increased depth of detection with the M+, it's fair to expect EA to develop one of the best-controlled Wii golf games ever, in a very meaningful and useful and fun way.
This is what Wii Sports, and the Wii itself, should have had from the beginning.
Sure, Wii should have Motion+ from the beginning, but it wasn't simply possible. In year 2005, gyroscope that Motion+ uses was very, very expensive (100+ bucks), heavy and drained power like a sponge. Only quite recently company called Invensense was able to cut development costs to tenth what they originally were, and reduce power consumption to acceptable levels. The most interesting thing here is that MotionPlus is actually the world's first gyroscope product that is massproduced and marketed towards normal consumer instead of scientific circles / industry.
The greatest thing about the Motion+ is that it's really just an I2C device, so you can probably pull the case off and use it in electronics projects very, very easily. It's basically a demo board for a precise, low-power gyroscope sold in any video game store for $20 to $30. It's going to sell like crazy to the electronics hobby market.
Whats that there, off in the distance? More overpriced peripherals which are now required to play games!
Will any game come with Motion+ as a pack in? If not then its the worst decision nintendo have ever made, since now 90% of their user base will have to play their games in crappy 'controls barely work' mode.

It's going to be packed in with Wii Sports Resort, which will sell a hojillion copies, so I don't think install base is really the issue. I wouldn't expect 100 percent of developers to start using it right away, but having EA onboard right at launch is a very good sign, especially since the Tiger Woo and Grand Slam Tennis (and Virtua Tennis too, though that's not EA, right?) really lend themselves well to using MP.

What do you mean?
That they're doing a new Mario Golf for the Wii?

Are you referring to the lag?

Ideally, E3 = Legend of Zelda + Motion+ pack-in. $60. Everybody cheer!
We will see. It is rumoured that Nintendo pushed every project back that could really benefit from Motion+.
(Please do not gift. My game bank is already full.)
Nope. It works even without Motion+.
