So is the calculation all just defense skill now? What about parry and dodge? Do we not have to worry about those? Or defense just the big one.
What?
Avoidance in general is important, but the barrier-to-entry for Heroic+ is to be uncrittable. Honestly if you can accumulate the gear to be uncrittable most likely you have other avoidance stats already in place. Assuming you are gearing with Blues. IF you are trying to defense cap with greens.... GL with that.

I think he's talking about pushing crushing blows off the table, which is no longer an issue. Just be uncrittable, then stack as much HP+Mit+Avoidance as you can.

Yeah, this is what I meant. I remember back in TBC days when I was gearing up my pally, I had this macro that would calculate all my stuff and I would hit it every time I got new tanking gear to see if it was an upgrade, or a sidegrade or what. Having just one number to track now is way easier.
And i was asking for my wife anway, whose DK just hit 80 so now it's harder for her to tank instances. Cause no one runs regular 80 instances much.

Crushing no longer exist. But yes, you do want to make sure something is an upgrade still. So you do still care about things other then defense. It's just one less barrier.

Hate: mage levelling before outlands. It's just so damn boring. That said, I think the same could be said for any class. Can't I just grant 55 levels with a scroll that I can buy for 250 emblems of heroism?
I've heard tell that the 535 thing is a myth. A boss of level ??, no matter where he is encountered will have a 5.6% chance to crit. I believe the 535 pertains to normal 80 instances.
Aren't heroic bosses 82?
I recall them simply being level ?? which, as I understand it, is always MAX_LEVEL + 3

There is a lot of +defense gear out there that will get you stats ready for tanking Heroics, that do not require you to enter many non heroic dungeons. Knights of the Ebon Blade, Argent Dawn, Wyrmrest Accord, Hodir and I believe either the Frenzyheart/Oracles each have an item or two in there you can use. The defense items those sell combined with Tempered Sarronite and Titansteel crafted items should get you really close. the Sigil should have enough defense on it to make not having a shield not a problem.
As a prot paladin I had over 550 defense without stepping foot into 1 dungeon, be it heroic or non, and that was not using a + defense weapon. You're avoidance stats will suck and your HPs will be low, but your defense will be where it needs to be.

Heroic bosses have always been 72 or 82. They aren't raid bosses and do not have any scaling. You can test that by going into a TBC heroic and soloing up to a boss. They will be 72. Raid bosses are max_level + 3.
Hate: I'm convinced that slamming my dick in a drawer will be more fun than leveling my warrior. But god damnit, I'm almost in Outland. I'm not stopping now.
Happy: Finally exalted with CE. Time to put some cash together for a hippogryph.
Have you completely cleaned out the Dorf excavators quest hub in the SW corner of the Bone Wastes?
He'll complete it when he gets the quest from Nagrand to speak to the demon in Shattrath and then collect the money. If not, it'll be the book of the dead quest line

Just to be pedantic, crushing blows are still in the game, but only for mobs 4+ levels above you. Since raid bosses are treated as 83 (assuming you're 80) and there aren't level 84+ mobs it means an 80 can't be crushed*, but if you're under 80 it's possible.
* This may or may not be true if your base defense isn't maxed. I haven't seen anything on that one way or another, but if you're a tank that's obviously not going to be an issue.

I've not done the elite dragon and big bone worm quests because I couldn't solo them (the bone worm purely because I don't have any ranged attacks).
I have been told there are quest lines in Nagrand that'll send me back to Terrokar for a quest or two which should tip me over the edge. Here's Hope:-ing!
Finally done that that farming. I was one of the early paladins to be riding a Darnassus-reputation cat mount back in '05, and now I got that mount model back again:
I wish it was really feasible for my warlock to solofarm ZG. I might play with it after 3.1 hits and I can practice it in a demo spec without paying a ton of money.

Happy: Giant Sewer Rat. Fucking finally. 800+ casts for that goddamned thing; I'll be glad to say 'fuck you' to fishing in that stupid sewer for a long while.

3 books it took me to fish up the rat
I have no idea how much time I have wasted trying to get Mr Pinchy
I got the rat in like 30 casts. It was extra funny because it was in the midst of a guildmate's 8000 casts for the Dark Herring. Though I hear he used a fishing bot for a lot of that so I no longer feel pity.
Happy: Today was a bumper crop of good going my way:
Green Proto-Drake Mount
Feral (offspec) staff from H-Grobb
Feral bracers and belt from other bosses, I forget which
With the new gear, I believe I should be able to solo Anzu now, but I won't try until tomorrow night after raiding (if there's a raid that is).
The green proto-drake is the only one I have seen that makes me not hate that model. Every other color of it I have seen has been ugly.

Hate: Tanks who pull the "if you pull aggro, you can tank it, because I'm not taunting it".
No, it doesn't make you a fucking cool guy to be able to do that. In this day and age, if someone pulls hate, its because you suck as a tank, or because they've had a chance to blow all their cooldowns and go all out on a single mob. Which doesn't happen except on bosses. And if someone does pull hate, just fucking taunt it.
Especially when we're doing Heroic Gundrak, killing Eck (WHO DROPS THREAT FREQUENTLY) and because you're too retarded to know fight mechanics, you dont taunt. Then, you try to argue with me about it after the fight.
Die.
