You're welcome and I'm sorry: GameStop Buy-2-Get-1-Free deal this weekend (3/13-3/15)
We've all been moping about a ton of great games and l i t t l e ... m o n e y to buy them, but now GameStop has a B2G1 deal this weekend, both online and in-store, so we can now be excited about buying more games and also be sad about spending even more money up-front.
I might finally take this time to buy House of the Dead Overkill, but I still need to find two more games to pair up with it.
Aw sonofabitch. There goes a ton of money I was storing up. I guess I should be thankful it's now when the girl I'm seeing is going to be away for a week.
Am I the only one who wants to punch GameStop's new bunny mascot in the face? Repeatedly?
Yay for sales, but I'm already paying money for two games new (namely, MadWorld and Henry Hatsworth), since I feel the developers/publishers deserve the money and other developers/publishers need to see support for non-stereotypical games.

I understand the principles, and I'm also buying Henry Hatsworth new, but otherwise there's one other party that needs to see support more than developers and publishers, and that's "Lunker's Wallet." ;-)
I already have Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, lots of others. Is Crackdown worth a used purchase? How about hidden gems that didn't see much in the way of attention?

I just bought Crackdown as one of my two first 360 games (the other was GoW1) - Crackdown's been getting the bulk of my playtime so far. Not really any story to speak of, but jumping around the city and chucking cars around hasn't gotten old yet - it's a lot of fun.

You don't have Crackdown? You have been sorely deprived. It is one of the most fun games I have played this gen. Imagine GTA, but you're Superman with an awesome car and can get away with anything. I would be totally up for co-op too if you needed a partner.
The bunny mascot looks like retarded alterna-art. I hate it too.
I want to take advantage of this deal, but I have no idea what to get, and I try to avoid spending money just for the sake of a good deal.

Crackdown is fun, but buy it new from newegg. $13 including shipping or you could pay $15 + tax for a crappy used copy from Gamestop.
If Crackdown and Left 4 Dead are available, then what else? I've never played GoW and Halo 3 would be all right to own, I guess (even though I've never finished any of the others), but I was hoping for something like Beyond Good & Evil that didn't get noticed but was amazing. Anything like that?
Hmm. I think that, for the first time, I can't think of any games that I NEED to buy with this deal.
What the hell is wrong with me?
It's OK to not have games that you NEED (I'm still getting used to it at the moment) - right now the only game on my "To Buy" list is Rock Band 2 (with instruments), and fuck if I'm buying that used.

I recommend EDF 2017, personally. Even more so if you've got someone to play co-op. It was just a blast.

I'm kind of the same way, honestly; a lot of recent stuff that's come out has been either "Unsure if I'll buy" or "Need it so much I'm buying Day 1 at full price." I might use this for Overkill and even pick up HOTD 2+3 or RE Umbrella Chronicles since I'm jazzed about the Darkside Chronicles news and I want more gun action.

Couldn't Lunker's wallet receive a lot more support if Lunker ignored the sale and played through what he has? I'd jump on this but I've got a DSi purchase coming up.

I might meander through there to see what I can dig up, but most of the time GS' used prices are high enough that I'd rather just get a nice shrinkwrapped box.
But I think my current next-planned purchase is the $10 Geometry Wars: Galaxies I saw in the bargain bin at Best Buy.
The mall by my house has a GameStop, an EB Games, a FuncoLand and a Software Etc. Which is funny, seeing as how they're all owned by GameStop.
I went to a mall once that had a Babbages and a Gamestop across the isle from each other.
I find it funny ive never heard of any of those, other than EBgames and Game stop (which we dont even have). I really should visit a bigger city and see some of these stores.

I've got way too many games on my need-to-get list for the Wii and DS, maybe now's the time to pick up Hotel Dusk, Metal Slug 7, and Castlevania: order of Eclair.

You're not missing anything. Since they're all part of the GameStop beast of devouring, they're all pretty much the same by now.
Heh, I remember the days when Software Etc. actually carried, y'know, software, not just games. Then my mom went in there two years after they switched looking for Word Perfect and got very confused.
I checked out their website. Where do they get off charging up to $54 USD for used games? Am I the only one that sees that as an absurd rip off?
Welcome to GameStop, bitch.
Their frequent buy-one get-one free sales are the only times buying there is really worth it (unless you've got an aversion to ordering online), and even then you have to be a little careful.

Like cloudeagle says, it's not so bad if you do it often enough to get their Edge card (which takes an extra 10 percent off), plus there's also another 10 percent off coupon somewhere on CAG that I'll try to drudge up, and then combine it with the B2G1 deal. You can get three $60 games for maybe $35 to $40-ish each. Hunting for bargains is a game in and of itself!
Ah, forgot about the Edge card. There's an up-front fee, but if you go to town during the B2G1F sales, it can really work for you. Not so much if you only get a game there every 2-3 months or so.

Plus like with most other places, it depends how long a game has been out. A fairly recent used game is only going to get $5 or so at most knocked off the retail price, while older games get cheaper.
I'm not too sure about that. Soul Calibur 4 for Ps3 is only $5 off the new price, and the game's been out at least a year now?
Uncharted is still commanding $50. Used is still going for a high price if you can even find one in stock, and it really should've gone Greatest Hits by now.

Yeah, the other factor is game popularity/reputation. Stuff like 1st-party Nintendo games hardly ever go lower than $5-10 off unless they go Player's Choice/Greatest Hits.

Guilty! I'm really a one-trick pony, but I try to work it in whenever I can.

I would normally plug Dark Sector and The Darkness here, but you can probably get them for $10 each new so it's not worth buying them used.
Ergo, use the money you saved with the B2G1 deal to buy those.
Can trade TF2 items or whatever else you're interested in. PM me.
I agree with this. Both are enjoyable games that you can get for pocket change new elsewhere.
Should be. They're the same company.
