    Complicated

    1. Global Warming (Is it hot in here, or is it just me?)
    2. Wood Chippers ("I guess that was your accomplice in the wood chipper." - Marge Gunderson, Fargo)
    3. Homework (Something to do during commercials)
    4. Madame Curie (1867-1934, French chemist and physicist who won a Nobel Prize for her work on radiation)
    5. Steven Spielberg (1947-, American movie director and producer, and overachiever. From E.T. to Schindler's List...)
    6. Israel (located on the Mediterranean, the state of Israel was created by a 1948 U.N. mandate)
    7. First Day of School ("Fear has many eyes" - Cervantes)
    8. Divorce (It's a trial separation, that goes to trial)
    9. The Vatican (The Papal State in the middle of Rome. Home of the Pope, Swiss Guards, and lots of pigeons)

    Complicated - Difficult, Complex, Involved.

The First Day of School can be scary, but generally you don't end up doing all that much in class; it's just a matter of figuring out where to go and then saying hi to all your friends. Sorry, FDoS, you're out.

Similarly, most homework is practice and reinforcement of things which you've learned in class. It can be tedious, and sometimes challenging, but it usually isn't overly complicated.

Wood Chippers has a fantastic quote (and Fargo is great), but really... just a bunch of spinning blades that you feed some wood through. Complicated? no.

Stephen Spielberg and Marie Curie - a man and a woman. While much of their work may be complex, I don't think I'd consider them to be overly complicated, themselves. Both out.

So the first cut leaves us with: Global Warming, Israel, Divorce, and the Vatican; I'm going to ponder these and be back in a little while.

Divorce certainly creates a complicated situation, especially when children are involved.

The tensions in the Middle East are indeed made extremely complicated by the presence of Israel

The Vatican is a religious city-state in the midst of a busy city; a twist of the medieval in the modern world.

But Global Warming is a truly complicated situation - world spanning, with some of the most intelligent people in the world having difficulty understanding its causes and deciding how to deal with it.

Global Warming, this green card goes to you.

I call Bullshit. The details of Global Warming are taught in school to 14 year olds who understand it perfectly. The science behind it is pretty tame and alot of it is just looking at facts an figures and going "oh yes there is a trend here, things will get hotter". If anything, it is the LEAST complicated of those four. For shame.

Global warming gets complicated in that 'will he, won't he' kind of way ;p

The problem in global warming is figuring out how much of it is the normal cycle of the planet v. how much is caused by human activity. And then figuring out how to act differently to minimize or reverse our effects, without simultaneously causing a worldwide depression.

If this game loops round and Darian judges again, we should totally all send in our worst cards and see hows the winner is reasoned.
