Intramural video games tournament... it's time.

I have an overall fantasy of intramural tournaments, spanning the entire University system, eventually eclipsing college sports events in popularity. After all, we can play such sports video games without home team ever having to leave home. Maybe the 'super bowl' could be held at a huge video game convention like PAX.

This is obviously all in the conceptual stage, proposal phase, but it's too irresistable. If this really takes off like I think it could, then it would also benefit higher education, people would be wanting to enroll in college to play video games? Great incentive.

More interesting to watch than baseball, for sure.

So this is where it starts, who's in? We need teams ready at every University to play a barrage of various games spanning PC and console alike. Maybe even a random 'mystery' game at the end so that no one can train for it.

It's on.

That seems like an organizational nightmare. Unless you have a ton of money and time to throw at it in your fantasies is where it stays.

Me? Money? Hah. Yeah it's totally not my money, it's the University's. Tech departments have more than enough, like even the one here in Fairbanks which already paid for steam rights, we have access to plenty of games, so on. I figure as long as we have gamers enjoying the game night we started in our computer lab, they might as well team up and kill another University, eat their souls. You know.

Hmm. Money is rather tight at my small university; it's not exactly flowing many of the larger ones either, I hear.

Notwithstanding, a good LAN party mystery game is the unfortunately named "War Twat". The creator's site is getting a makeover, so it currently appears to only be available in the latest RGCD. Single player, lasts a few seconds, and contains infinitely more flashing lights and insanity than the normal arcade game. My first thoughts upon playing it went along the lines of "Wait, what?", and then I was at the game over screen.

I really don't see video game tournaments becoming more popular than sporting events. Video games are, for the most part, fun to play, not watch.

This is incredibly elitist if you only allow people who go to colleges to compete.

Also, we don't really need to encourage more people to go to college anyway, especially for the wrong reasons. There's too many people in colleges as it is that don't really need to be there.
