Rock with an Eastern flare

This might seem like an odd request, but I've always been drawn to rock that has Eastern influences to it. System of A Down is an obvious example, I heard a Tool song on the radio (don't know which one it was) that also seemed a bit "Egyptian" for a lack of a better term. So really, any songs/bands that have Eastern influences, places like India, China etc.

Thanks for any suggestions

You could try The Tea Party. They often have middle eastern influences. Try their earlier albums though. I like those better but that's me.

Try Alhambra, Splendor Solis, Edges of Twilight and Transmission albums. Some of their stuff is quite heavy. They do go back and forth.

The Tea Party is definitely on the right track. Tinariwen is pretty much Indian folk music, as far as I can tell. Some good suggestions so far, keep it up!

As you already mentioned, some Tool songs have eastern influences, the drummer (best drummer in the world) can play the tabla.

    Songs below:
Right in Two (from 10,000 Days)
    Reflection (from lateralus)
    Pushit (live version, from Salival)
possibly Third Eye (either version, from Salival and AEnima)

Maybe the latest album from The Mars Volta has some eastern influences?

Gogol Bordello? I'd say gypsy punk qualifies.

The first band that came to my mind was Orphaned Land. They're metal, but they love their middle-eastern vibe.

I actually own Super Taranta! it's okay, but not one of my favorites. Love watching them on-stage, though.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, keep 'em coming.

The band Junoon. You won't understand the lyrics but the music is exactly what you are looking for.

If you don't mind going for more of the 'traditional/local' sound at the expense of the 'rock' side of things, you might also enjoy the following:

-Khaled (Sahra is a great album)
-Hamza el Din (Eclipse and A Wish are both good albums)
-Shakti with John McLaughlin is an unbelieveable album - worth a listen.

As soon as I saw this thread I thought "Tea Party". :P If you want to go old school you could try The Doors.

I'm not sure if it fits, but Godsmack has a very tribal sound to their music. Check out Spiral, Serenity, Voodoo, or for their heavy shit, Straight Out of Line and Livin' In Sin.

EDIT: Holy shit! Ra is awesome!

I always got an eastern vibe from the first A Perfect Circle CD (Mer de Noms I think is the name). Also you could check out some stuff by VAST (http://www.realvast.com).
