You know on the Lighthouse map there is this one room with a broken spiral staircase. Would it be possible just to camp out on top of it because the zombies will only have 1 way to access you by coming up the stairs? Also I only saw 1 door to that room, but I presume some of the walls can be torn down.

Yep, walls get torn down and zombies come up those stairs faster than you'd think. Plus friendly fire if you're not careful. Then some poor bastard falls/gets pulled off, and gets zombie curb-stomped. Then a tank comes in and rapes you. With his two tank friends.
All depending how long you last, of course. :P
EDIT: And IIRC the zombies can climb "straight up" the stairs...they don't, like, need to walk around the spiral. So they still pretty much come from all directions, though the climbing slows them a little bit.
The tank in general prevents the concept of just "holing up" somewhere, assuming no cheesy exploits.
BTW, I thought they said that this wasn't going to have achievements? Are they on the 360 version as well? IIRC Valve said they wouldn't be able to put achievements in because that would mean the content would have to be paid on the 360.

I dunno, these are pretty weak tanks. We managed to hole up pretty nicely on Hospital (in the room off the back corridor), and just shotgun-rape any tanks that came in. Even double tanks fall pretty fast to focused fire. You have just enough room to move around in there to keep them from pounding you to bits before they fall. We really only had to leave for ammo.
Depends what kind of times you're looking to post, though. But for 10 minutes (gold medals)? It certainly seems doable on some of these levels.
If you find a spot that you can be pulled from either one or no directions, survival mode is a cakewalk. Use pistols until a tank comes, switch to autoshotty, hes dead in 2 seconds flat.
Your shotty ammo will run out a little past the 10 minute mark. Which is about the time you don't need ammo any more, because you've got the medal.

There aren't any new achievements. We don't even have Outbreak.
Technically MS's policy is that you can have extra Gamerscore in either free or paid content, but I imagine they can go above that and say to Valve that there's no way they'll let this content have free achievements.

To be fair, it's not like they're major additions. If you had the choice between the exact same content but one for "free" and the other "800MS points but with a few additional pop-up messages", how many would want the latter?
Incidentally, if anyone's interested the achievements are one each for getting a bronze / silver / gold medal, and one each for getting all bronze / silver / gold medals. Six total.
As for outbreak, who knows. I'm guessing it's because you need to get the "infection" first from the original dev team, and then it's tracked via Steam from there. IIRC there have been similar things for the 360 (I think? Wasn't there something like that for GTA 4?), but maybe they need to pay more for that kind tracking.
I think you'd be surprised at the incentive that Achievements are on the Xbox. Besides, this content would probably have sold super well if it had been paid content anyway.
Outbreak is absolutely possible. You don't need any type of tracking. With Outbreak, it would be two checks. One, when you got killed by an Infected, did they have the virus, and store that locally. Then, when you kill another person, unlock the achievement.

Achievements can be an "incentive" for some, but free is a much bigger incentive. I have no doubt it would have sold well, but I honestly think Valve would have also faced a bit of a backlash since:
- People would say they were paying for content that should have been included with the original game (Dead Air, Death Toll). There have already been a mountain of complaints about RE5 getting an extra deathmatch mode (to the extent that Capcom even issued a statement on it), what do you think they'd say about this?
- There would be complaints that the PC version was getting the same content free of charge, Valve was just stiffing the 360 audience because they could and using the "excuse" of blaming Microsoft (again, this complaint's already been levelled at the upcoming TF2 updates for the 360, for which Valve are having to charge).
- The content wouldn't be enough to justify the pricepoint (this will always be a complaint).
Then 360 fanbase is alienated enough as it is over Team Fortress 2. Anything else would probably just make it worse.

Is achievement information for multiplayer achievements stored locally? Well whatever, I'm sure there was some technical or financial reason for them not being able to do that specific achievement.

Aren't there some other games that have done viral achievements for the 360?
Yes. GTAIV did a viral achievement and a viral costume. Burnout Paradise had one. Shadowrun had one. I think even Small Arms had one.
It's absolutely possible to do. Outbreak is slightly different in that you have to give it to someone else to get the achievement, but it would work as I described just fine.

I dont know how the fuck you guys get 30+ minutes on survival.
Other than extreme exploiting (or getting lucky on Terminal), you can't.
Terminal wasn't luck or an exploit, bug maybe but hunkering down in the bathroom works very well, and we replicated similar results in Drains without doing anything special, the tanks just stop spawning after gold, so it becomes a matter of how long you can keep up the pistol fire.
Can anyone else who has made it past 10min confirm this? I've seen it twice in two ten min+ attempts on separate maps. I assume it's a bug, but please don't call my results exploiting, because my group doesn't roll like that.

We got one on one of the Death Toll maps, one where you open the door to set the alarm off. We went through the door and sat on the far end on the upper floor with only two entrances. Basically all the tanks bugged out except for one or two who made it through and all we had to do was keep shooting infected. We got about 14 minutes that way. It wasn't intended but seemed to work. We did eventually die however.

That was on The Warehouse and that's actually in Blood Harvest. I remember at the end it said we killed two tanks. Also, I remember our time as 12 minutes, not 14.

Linked because I'm too lazy to crop or resize it.
Also, I made a thread on the L4D forums saying that it'd be nice to have group leaderboards.
It's "høst". If you're gonna make fun of me using the, sometimes incomplete Danish, translation of Steam and Valve games, do it properly.
