[DEUS EX MOD ON] The Nameless Mod! 7 years in the making, finally out!

donhonkdonhonk Registered User regular
edited April 2009 in Games and Technology
Well, thats it. Its out. A mod for Deus Ex, The Nameless mod takes place INSIDE the internet! Yeah I know it sounds crazy, I don't have much time to explain because I have to play it.

That should tell you more!

Again, sorry for the brief OP, I'll update once I'm done playing it for hours!

To quote the trailer. In 'deep raspy I'm-a-badass' voice: "I'm here to evict your ass...with violence." O_o

If I wasn't watching Commando right now that line would be just utterly rediclious. Are there really battles with that many people running around though? Looks pretty cool.

First Impressions: Awesome voice work for a mod! No 15 year old voices in sight. Very humorous, and plenty of Deus Ex inside jokes. Gives that fuzzy feeling of Deus Ex, except its a whole new campaign! I can't wait to play it more tomorrow.

I just came on here to post this but was beaten like a red headed step child. I am SHOCKED that this made it to release. Shocked and so so so so happy! Gotta love Steam, I don't have to hunt down my copy of Deus Ex!

    Forum City?

My only worry is that it will be jam-packed with stuff that, while amusing at the moment, will be OldMeme in short order.

Still, good to see that it's supposed to go hand-in-hand with the HDTP (which still isn't done, and don't ask them when it will be :P )

Glad to hear you guys are enjoying/will be enjoying it :-)

If you'd like a well written, third party opinion of the mod, check out Richard Cobbet's review: http://www.richardcobbett.com/codex/journal/filingcabinet/the_nameless_mod/

There are (as with any release) a few bugs and issues, but we'll have a patch out shortly to fix them up. If you run into any troubles just let us know and we'll help you sort them out.

    Enjoy!

Wow. Over a 185,000 words of dialogue. Did they, like, run an word count in Office?

And... for some reason I still have Deus Ex installed. I'll be downloading tonight.

Why bother torrenting the DVD? Seems like downloading the .exe and then the extras is a better idea because you can delete the extras that you don't need later on. I guess the torrent might be faster or something.

Umm... I meant the torrent of the The Nameless Mod DVD. The legal torrent of the free-to-share user-created content mod. Tracked on a site that only allows legal torrents. Linked to as a way of acquiring the full mod and the bonus content on the mod's download page.

Clearly, I need to pick my words more carefully

I bought Deus Ex about 3 years ago :|

Internet's been disconnecting for a bit every few hours for a day or so now (getting it fixed in a week). More convenient than using a download manager and trying to resume after the connection breaks for half a second.

Bah, ignore all this and continue with the FUN MOD!

The writing in the trailer didn't strike me as very good, but the voice acting was beyond my expectations

Despite the premise being perhaps the most self-indulgent bullshit I've ever heard of, there is the distinct chance it might not suck

And more Deus Ex material is always good

I will endeavor to play this as soon as possible

After playing a bit, I can say this is indeed a fun mod. Very polished, with a goofy-yet-not-that-bad setting and decent voice acting.

    thumbs up

And of course if you *haven't* found any bugs, please continue assuming we've created a game with no bugs:lol:

I wish the trailer told me that this was going to be nothing but a mod full of terrible internet memes, in-jokes, terrible fanfiction, because this is just so stupid, unfunny, and unoriginal its hurting my head.

I mean, the loading screens alone remind me how terrible internet culture has become. Here's just one gem in a sea of precious stones. Seven years to what amounts to one big inside joke.

Wow, I've been playing the mod for the past couple of days and as long as you don't take it seriously there is some great fun and great humor to be had here. I can say without a doubt that this is the best singleplayer mod I've ever played. The architechture in the large buildings is amazing, really takes me back to playing DX for the first time.

It's Vista, and it was right near the end of the installation. And I got a different message when trying to run the game or uninstall. A couple people in the H/A thread I made had the same problem.

There is indeed, on their faq.

But I really like the description of the factions on their Wiki. They promise much rending of flesh, and for that I salute them.

"Most of the population will be killable.

As you wander around the game and kill every civilian, you will have the option of doing missions for organizations in order to win the game:

[YIPYIPYIP] employs many people who can be killed.
[BEEEP] which is unique among the TNM factions in that it features people who can be killed.
[BLOOP] If you enjoyed killing [BLIP] you will enjoy doing the same with the [BONG]
[VIPVIPVIPVIPVIP] Many of its members will die throughout the course of the game, assuming you kill them."

Edited for [People who fear even the most minor of spoilers that do not strictly touch on the prospect of violence].

    This looks awesome.

The general consensus seems to be that everyone hates the concept and finds it stupid right up until they start playing.

I myself am quite impressed with the little I've played so far. I just wish the city maps weren't so difficult to navigate, they're huge with little in the way of directions.
