Oh hells yeah. I just recently made a HL2: DM map for a mapping contest. Of course though, we can't release the map yet until the judges finalize who the top 3 contestants are. But as soon as I find out that I didn't win maybe we can play on it sometime.

This is true. It's one of the more irritating parts of designing a HL2DM map. The inclusion of the Rocket Launcher can wildy alter gameplay mechanics in a map.

I think I had more fun with team DM. At least it has some kind of potential for objective, like "Get on the rafters and camp the rocket launcher." Raiding the bunker was kind of fun in that one nuke map.
Allow me to pimp out my previous Half-Life 2: Deathmatch Maps that I never really released because they were mainly made just for me and my friends.

So basically, I am ready to undertake anything you all come up with. It would be a neat project.

I remember a map from CS 1.6 that was just an ENORMOUS cliff wall, and I just used to love leaping off it and killing dudes when I got to the bottom... there was water there, so you could land safely.
Some gimmic map could be pretty fun, I'm thinking.
The SLAM (the mines you can attach to walls) are the best weapon in the game.

They have so many uses!
-Put them an inch up from the floor so the beam blends in with the floor texture!
-Put them in a nook in a wall so they can't be shot!
-Place them, then stick an explosive barrel in front of it before the beam turns on!
I was just in a round on the PA server where I placed first with like 25 kills; at least 20 of them were SLAM kills.

Overwatch is really the only map this is remotely true about. Other maps have a wide assortment of instant or near-instant kill low-aim weapons: contact grenades, combine pulse balls, thrown explosive barrels, thrown objects, shotgun blasts at close range to name a few. And with just a little sprint power you can get right up next to them and they can't use the RPG effectively.
Now on overwatch with the RPG you have a huge firing field, great cover against sniping, few surfaces to hit with explosives, only one entry that's easily covered by the RPG, supplemental grenades to cook, and a little bit of health and armor. This makes it really difficult to assault if you don't know how cook grenades. But since grenades can explode in mid-air and there's a limited area that's effective to patrol with the RPG, there's a very good chance you can take out the person hiding up there, especially since the health and armor doesn't spawn that fast.
On underpass you can camp a little bit with the RPG, but the absolute lack of nearby health and many entrances to the area mean you're going to get jacked eventually.
In team scenarios you can camp these places a little bit more effectively, but your health and rocket spawns are spread thin so you can snipe them off and wear them down. I don't want to sound like a snarky "play to win" person, but really, taking the RPG out is just a wrong move.

Well, completely removing a rocket launcher isn't always the best solution. More maps are placing the Rocket Launcher in much more risky places. One map even sounds off a loud alarm to let people know that someone has gotten the Rocket Launcher. Its just tricky making it the Rocket Launcher be not too overpowering.
Also, are we currently playing FFA or TDM on this server? After years of playing nothing but team games I don't have faith in my twitch-gamer skills from Q3A coming back too quickly. :P

This is why it is awesome and why it is also exhausting.
TDM can feel a bit more paced and a bit more fun as you are not simply spending the whole time in a cold sweat.
