    I actually like having pubbies in every now and then, just to mess with. I started a clan called $G's$ with one without realizing he was actually serious about it. He kept asking me to make a clan server.

    Make a map with closable doors and that everything outside explodes if they close, like I just played, that map was cool. Also is it possible to make team deatmatch/just deathmatch an vote?

    I just finished coding the vote option. It should show up on the next map change. The command is voteteamplay. Hopefully it'll work.

    It should already be on there. Try to votemap it or get an admin to change the map if they are on.

    it would seem my explosive barrels do not respawn in that one

    turns out you can't covert from a normal prop to a respawning one, you have to make a respawning one from scratch for it to work

    That usually happens if I see someone step on that particular mine, go back for more, and someone's set one while I was gone.

    The worst is when I crouch down to set it and see the enemy's mine framed perfectly in the middle of my screen for about half a second before it explodes.




    Also, 5 easy steps to being That Guy™ with mines:

    1. Don't set them at head height. If you do that only retards are going to trip them. Crouch and set them as close to the bottom of the wall as you can without setting it on the floor- then the beam will blend in with the floor texture and most of the mine's model will be hidden in the floor. Bonus points if there are ridges in the wall; set the mines in the depressions in the wall and they'll be hidden. Powerhouse is a nightmare for this as every single doorframe has a ridge on it that will perfectly conceal mines to people coming from a particular direction.

    2. Set them on physics objects. The best ones for these are ones that have two part parallel to each other, such as tables/desks, the big red trolley carts, etc. Place them so that the beam points at the other end of the physics object. Then the instant someone touches that object they will explode. (And if someone attacks you in a room you've booby-trapped such objects in, you can punt the objects at the gravgun with them and hit them with exploding tables.)

    3. Take any cyndrilical object, drop it on its side, wait for it to stop rolling, then crouch, walk up to it very slowly so you don't start it moving again, and set the mine on the floor under it. The best place to do this is in doorframes- people will trip over the barrel, start it rolling, and set off the mine. The best object to do this with is explosive barrels, since the mine explosion will then also launch a fiery missile of doom in a random direction. (Just don't hang around in rooms you did this in.)

    4. When you get to the top of a ladder, note which direction the game automatically has you step off it in, then set a mine on the floor pointing straight up on that spot. The next person to come up the ladder will reach the top and explode. If people start catching on, start placing them midway up the ladder instead.

    5. If you're laying mines and someone starts shooting you, start throwing them in trigger mode (not tripwire mode) at them. If they kill you, the mines in trigger mode will automatically explode, taking them with you.


    The most important thing is to conceal the mine. Only idiots will fall for mines out in the open; to get everyone else you have to be clever about it and put them in a spot where they won't notice the beam until they've stepped on it already.

    My problem with mines are

    A. If you don't use them close enough to the wall, they'll just fall.
    B. People shoot me in the back of the head when I'm trying to place them :[

    You want to hit LMB as soon as your character starts the animation when you get close enough to set them on the wall- they'll pull the mine in and change to a two-handed grip.

    You do NOT have to wait for that animation to finish. As soon as you see the hands moving you can place it.

    If you do throw the mine accidentally, pick it up with the gravgun and hide it in a place where people tend to hang out; then when you get killed it'll explode and take out anyone nearby.

    For the record, the only use I've found with having the mines in right-mouse-button-to-explode mode is to drop it, flip it over so the red light isn't showing, and hide it in a pile of the mine ammo pickups, then lurk nearby and set it off if someone goes to pick it up.

    (to flip objects over, grab them, look straight up, and then drop them)

    Interesting tips. I have not fooled with SLAMs much because they took too much time and required you to sacrifice too much mobility to make it worthwhile. Though if you can just place a few without needing to pause, they could be worthwhile.

    I'd still have the problem that their placement is going to be best suited to kill me later, after I forget about them.

    Once you get the timing of hitting LMB when the animation starts down, you can usually set basic 'mine at the bottom of the wall in a doorframe' trap set up in about a second and a half.

    The more elaborate stuff takes longer, but that stuff is usually just things so I can cackle when I see them actually kill people- the simple stuff is what gives you points, the more elaborate barrel-with-a-mine-that-launches-into-a-pile-of-barrels stuff is just for hilarity.

    Soal, that map is fun. We should play together on it sometime soon.

    Here's my idea for a crappy level:

    The whole thing takes place on a hillside with a cliff at the bottom. Various un-liftable items such as cars and washing machines spawn on top and continually roll down. When they hit the bottom they teleport back to the top and keep going like in avalon. Pretty sweet idea, huh? (no)

    Man, that Darth-town map is fun At least, it is for someone who loves setting traps everywhere for me. For everyone else it's probably a nightmare.


    Sometimes I wish I could play against myself to see what all you guys are going through... then I remember all the times I've stepped on my own mines and change my mind.
