Binding fn key in XP on macbook

kpeezykpeezy Registered User regular
I'm running XP 32 bit on my macbook (new macbook with the white shell). I play some games on it with friends and I need to bind the "fn" key to crouch in FPS games. It's an old habit from every FPS I've ever played.

Basically, I just need to know if there's a way to bind the "fn" key to have the same function as control.

--I think I found something to rebind fn to control in OS X but I haven't messed with it. I've never run Parallels or anything but maybe that would be an option?

As far as I know, windows doesn't recognize the fn key on apple keyboards at all.

I use the wired desktop keyboard and all the keymapping apps can't even see the Fn key to bind it to something else.

The Windows driver for the keyboard intercepts the key and rewrites certain keypresses that go through while it's held. I believe there is an alternate driver you can install, however, to treat it like a normal meta-key.

I messed around with AutoHotKey some and eventually realized that the Fn key doesn't send a scancode. I pretty much gave up then. I did read something about installing different, generic drivers and that would possibly work. I'll look more into it.
