I bought a new computer and reinstalled SC on it, but for some reason I can't get it to play without the disc installed. I followed the instructions from the 1.15 patch and copied the "install.exe" file and renamed it "Broodwar.mpq", but it keeps giving me the disc needs to be in the drive error.
It's really not that big of a deal, but I'd like to get it to work. Anyone else running into this problem yet?
A simple option would be to uninstall the game, then enter in the cd-key on the new battle.net site: http://us.battle.net/ or http://eu.battle.net/ depending on where your from. And then just download from there, no cd required.

Maybe because you renamed it .mpq, but did you check to see if it's actually that file type?
Most folder options come default with extensions turned off. This means when you typed .mpq, its really .mpq.exe .
Just go to your folder options, turn off hidden extensions and then rename it to "Broodwar.mpq".

The capitalization is important
It's supposed to be BroodWar.mpq, not Broodwar.mpq.

Yeah, I made sure the capitalization was in place. Following the instructions, the folder told me to uncheck the "hide extensions" box. When I did that, the file was changed to BroodWar.mpq.exe. I didn't think to remove the .exe part. Duh!
I should be trying to get back on later this week, maybe Wed or Thurs. I'll be looking for some PAers then. Fear the D- Terran and my 2004 build orders! 18/20 Dual Factory build FTW! (I should probably try and learn these new fandangled 1 Fact/Expo builds or something.)

Battle Royale looks like a good fit for the Terran. Of course, I'm just guessing based on the destroyable entrances and the guyser blocks acting as mini walls. I would assume that tanks getting dropped into the center with turret support would be very difficult to stop. I guess we'll see.
Also, got the game to start without a CD. I forgot to delete the .exe. I'll try out Iccup later this week and maybe catch up with you guys this weekend.

Say, how do I go about getting all these tourney maps? I managed to dig up one (Chipung Reyoung or something similar) and it was so much more fun than the maps included.

I have problems seeing what makes a map good for one race over another (I still don't know/can't remember what makes Longinus so bad for zerg), but looking at Heartbreak Ridge, two things seem to stand out.
1. There doesn't seem to be any decent second expansion for zerg to take, even just a mineral only. Most expansions look like they would be a bitch to defend at the same time as your main.
2. The main and natural really suck for muta harassment. Mutas can't even really get behind the minerals in the main, plus it's fairly wide open and the terran can easily avoid building right next to the cliffs. The natural has the cliffs behind the minerals, but a ramp right near it, making it really easy to get turrets up there/move marines there.

Yeah pretty much the biggest issue for Zerg is an easily secured 3rd expansion that has a geyser. There's pretty much only one option, barring some ninja expansion across the map. I think controlling those ridges could be very difficult vs a Terran. Once you lose that ridge just outside the 2nd gas expansion, it could be very difficult if not impossible to defend it.
But really ridge control is gonna be the biggest factor in any matchup on this map. Also it looks like from that ridge above the 2nd natural connects to the ridges overlooking both the main minerals and the natural expansion with little opportunity for being flanked. That could get ugly.
Longinus is just like what the fuck Protoss gets his 3rd base and has 40 archons and you just die. Terran mech is also popular in TvZ on that fucking map. Also the choke is tiny so you can't do run bys and it's an easy FE for protoss and terran.

If what you say is true, the Shaolin and the Wu-Tang could be DANGERISK.
Game one of Strelok vs White-Ra was pretty cool. Strelok does this strange 10rax/10gas thing where he cuts scvs. I'm confused as to why, though. I guess it was to get his first tank out faster? At the most it would be 1 second faster, though. I dunno.

Was that the one on Medusa?
10rax/10gas is probably like ~20 seconds faster then usual I'd guess. Maybe he wanted a fast tank to deal with any 10/15gate from White-Ra.

Yeah, it was Medusa. I dunno, I just wouldn't have thought it would be that much faster, but I guess he did have two tanks and like four marines by the time White-Ra had three goons.
Someone who is willing... to help explain APN to me would be much appreciated.
I know it has to do with how fast you are. But what technically raises your APN. Anytime the server receives input from you? So moving of units, researching, building, etc? Would you have a higher APN if while waiting on things to finish you move unit(s) back and forth?
You use a third-party program, usually. Look up BWChart on google. You can use that to open replays (you might want to turn on the replay autosave function of iccup) and check out apm, hotkey usage, etc. Uploading replays to Repdepot also automatically lists APM once you've put it on there.

Well the reason I was asking... I was watching a video of Savior play... and while he's waiting on stuff sometimes he was constantly selecting units, over and over. I wasn't sure if this was adding to his APM or if he was just bored waiting

I would assume that he was getting his hands warmed up so that as the game progresses his hand speed will stay the same.

Well if anyone's on, I'm on B.net. I still wanna practice more before I register on ICCup. Only problem, is that I play on East because all my friends do. I do realize playing on B.net probably not going to be like on ICCup, but I still need work on my APM. I have downloaded the ICCup maps and am down to play them. I'll play any maps really, BGH if you a BGH fan, Chain-Lightning, eh it's w/e. PM me or /w BloodHarvest @ USEAST
I also idle in )v( if you choose to try and find me.

No progamer actively tries to add to APM with spam. Only newbs do so they can talk about it and continue to suck :P

You can register and play on iccup with the PA people without worrying about any kind of record. The games you play with the PA folks won't count towards any kind of ladder score. They all hang out on iccup so you're much more likely to get some practice in there.
Not only that, but there are several channels like op irc or discipline that are geared to help people find friendly practice matches. They're good for when PA duders aren't around and you don't feel like laddering (and getting cheesed). Op irc is people of all ranks, while discipline is D-/D/D+ people. Discipline is usually pretty empty, but you'll almost always find someone in op irc.
Oh, yeah, definitely, but they're easy enough to ignore and just play against. The quality of op irc has really gone down in the past month or so, in my opinion. I used to have several people on my friends list that frequented op irc and were all pretty fun to talk and play with, but people just kind of quit going. There are still plenty of nice people, so don't knock it entirely, you know?
The most recent Gom uploads were really lackluster. All of the games were one sided. You know it's bad when a ZvZ was possibly the most entertaining from a competitive point of view.
New Medusa version out, I suppose to fix the TvP imbalance. The biggest change I see is buildable terrain in the center so Terran's can actually do a hard push now.

That was pretty good.
There's too many GOM games to look through and I can't find any recommended games on TL. Are there any other good ones?
I gotta say, I liked the left guy a little bit. He was at least somewhat witty.
Map looks fun though.

The two nicest dudes in foreigner SC going at it in EWC europe finals. Tasteless and Artosis commentary again.
What makes you say this? As a noob I'm not sure what map characteristics make it a better map for one race or the others.
