Steam screwed up during Well and I was forced into using the base items. Funny how being forced to use something against your will can lead to good times.
Bonesawed Edcrab as a Heavy to death not once but twice ( sorry Ed ) and took out an invisible iowa with one swing.
Good times.
Regular needlegun can suck a dick though.
yep. but not having kritz on that arena map sucked the fun out for me
OH WELLZ. I have tomorrow off so ill get to dick around all day
You don't play demo anymore? You were pretty rad at demo.
My love of demo faded when i couldn't get a ping under 100 for a while, then pyro became the lagmans friend and soldier to take out sentries and mess with other stuff. TBH I play all classes at different times.. well except medic, just can't get into playing medic.

I have an important question. I just ran my laptop through the test by the System Requirements Lab. According to them, my laptop is just shy of the having a decent enough video card for recommended settings (just a lousy 128MB shared memory card).
Obviously, super-awesome ultra-definition graphics are out of the question; more importantly, does this mean that my system could run TF2 well enough to actually be playable? I really don't want to end up spending twenty bucks on something that ends up running like a slideshow for me.
The video card is the definite sticking point. I'm sure I could get the game to function, but if it ends up being a slideshow then there really wouldn't be much of a point in getting the game right now.

Theres a way to send the graphics below even min settings. A couple people use this (its a long list of things you put in a certain file, I think) and so even if you can't run at min, you could probably run it like that. It ain't pretty though.
My laptop has a 2.13Ghz single core and 512mb RAM, and it runs at bare minimum settings with somewhat crappy framerate. Yours should definitely be playable.
Have you ever played any other source games on it?

Argh, no, these are the wrong kinds of answers. I need to hear things like "you're crazy for thinking it will be playable" and "only a dumb person would think that might possibly work".
Have you ever played any other source games on it?
Yeah, I've played Zombie Panic! Source using this laptop, but it wasn't pretty or smooth. For the Left 4 Dead demo, if I turned everything down to the bare minimum I was able to play a bit. The zombies disappeared as soon as they died and everything looked pretty hideous, but it was still mildly playable.
I don't suppose this game has guest passes or anything like that? I vaguely recall hearing something about Valve letting people play for free on certain weekends, or am I just crazy?
For some reason, being able to play a couple decent games of TF2 on the 360 earlier this week really gave me an itch to play. I can't stand playing the un-patched, un-fixed, completely broken 360 version anymore. It never even really occurred to me that my laptop might be able to handle the game. I thought the same thing about the STALKER games, yet I was able to run those at least well enough to beat them.

I've found L4D to be a bit more intensive than TF2, so you should be able to run it.

You say it ran Left 4 Dead?
That game has much more graphical flair than TF2. More importantly, TF2's art style is inherently more suited to low settings then L4D.
I run TF2 on absolute max on my laptop and it is silky smooth. But Left 4 Dead I have to have on medium to low settings to even run it.
L4D is certainly a much higher threshold of performance then TF2.
I'd agree. And I'm willing to provide totally useless anecdotal evidence as well. When my previous video card was messing up it wouldn't run L4D for more than 5 minutes, but I could usually play TF2 with only a minor graphical glitch or two.

The #1 thing I did to increase framerate on my laptop was -dxlevel 81. Maybe it's just my graphics card, but taking the DirectX 8 paths to draw the graphics instead of DX9 shot my framerate up by 20 or 30, it's totally smooth now.
ed: this is why L4D doesn't run that well for me, there are no DX8 paths to draw it, it's too graphically intense. Sadface. Hopefully I can build a new computer with my tax return instead of doing fiscally responsible things like paying off my credit card.
I think i have a guest pass i've never used if you want to try it out
If you aren't going to use it for anything else, I'd appreciate it if you could toss it my way. What Steam info do you need?
I... actually have no idea. let me find out.
Let's see... your email address or you being on my friend's list are the options i have for sending the pass
Yeah, that's what I'm seeing too. [Identity Theft] should work. Also, if you sign me up for spam, I will 130% murder you.
150%
Crap i thought i'd finally found somewhere to drop my spam so that i could actually use my aol account again... oh well next time.
It's sent... and i guess it's a good thing i'm giving it to you because i just found out it was going to expire in less than a month or so if i didn't send it out. better that someone actually gets use from it than for it to be wasted
Haha no problem. I just got the orange box last week and i haven't had a bunch of time to play it all but the time i have had to play so far has been completely addictive... so watch out

Oh yeah, I already know it's fun (I picked up the Orange Box for the 360 when it came out).
Also, what's the PAer stance on using techniques-which-shall-not-be-named to get around the unlock garbage? Seriously, I do not want to have to screw around with unlocks in an FPS, but neither do I want to earn undying hatred from people for just getting the crap unlocked and out of the way. It's not even something Valve expressly forbids, is it?

Valve has punished those that used the unlocker (took their unlocked weapons away for a week), so use it at your own risk, I suppose.

What is your GPU?
It's an motherboard-integrated Geforce 6150. I suppose it technically could be called the video card, but that's not really fair to real video cards. Considering my laptop wasn't ever intended to be a gaming laptop, it does fairly well. However, it tends to run things just well enough to make me itch to build a new gaming rig, so it's sort of a double-edged sword in that respect.

your opinion on this subject intrigues me. please, in all sincerity, tell me more. i havent played in a fortnight and my mind thirsts for knowledge
It used to be all "PUSH BUTAN; RECEEV BACON" but now it's all "PUSH BUTAN; wait; wait; wait; wait; wait; RECEEV BACON"
the butan is my penis, and so is the bacon
Does that make sense?

go over the penis part again
I don't get it
You'll get his penis soon enough.
Does it just take longer or is there a MMO-like disconnect timer?
Let's just say that I fear change.
