Learning Frequencies

I was just wondering if anyone knows of a programme that I can fuck around with sound frequencies with a sound file or a CD. Like some sort of programme with a digital equaliser in it, I'm getting in to the first stages of sound engineering and of course the first thing I need is to fuck around with frequencies and learn them, but I don't have the required gear at home to use and the ones at school are being used current and I won't be getting them back for at least 2 weeks. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Only thing i can think of is really simple stuff like the equalizer found in music player apps.

If you can learn to whistle 1k, you can then octave off that and work out most any frequency from ~200 up to maybe 8k-10k - the hard part's beating the 1k frequency into your mind.

Any halfway decent audio editing program should have a graphic EQ. That would be a good start, although IMO if you really want to learn them, try to find one with a parametric EQ.
