I got a couple more questions while I wait for this game.

    1. So it's been mentioned that Normal mode is much easier than the 360 version. What about hard mode? Since I already played through Normal, I'm considering starting over on Hard.

    2. Is all of the DLC and extra costumes included for free on the PS3 version?

    3. Do we get to see another moment where Rachel is tentacle molested and then covered in slime?

    Just....curious.

Whatever happened to that Sexual Harrassment case against Itagaki?

Apparently a court exonerated him. As hilariously stereotypical as this is, I for one can't fathom getting a clear image for inter-office politics and relations 1) somewhere thousands of kilometers away 2) in a legal system I'm not familiar with and 3) given when I've seen sexual harassment in places I've worked, it's been way too complicated for me to even fathom. And I was sitting at the next freaking desk.

tl;dr--I can't even figure out what's going on with sexual harassment charges for the T.A. in the office down the hall, much less in a gaming studio in Japan. o_O

It's not a joke. It's 100% in the game, for real.

I just find it odd that they're playing down the violence but playing up the sex.
    Because it's Japan.

And Itagaki isn't there to dial back the Japan.
Not that Itagaki isn't guilty of Japan. That guy has been known to Japan it up.

I don't know if "adding Aerosmith" is really dialing back the Japan, so to speak. Maybe dialing up the America. I mean, Namco added a bar in character creation in Soul Calibur IV with the sole function of modifying breast size. I guess that's more Japan, rather than less?

Then again, the choice to remove the blood effects is just...beyond me. It's a violent game, for god sakes. I want to say some sort of problem with the PS3's graphic processors that they didn't want to sort out. Or someone on the design staff had a really big aversion to blood.

I miss it. But that's just me.

EDIT: Ah, I need to start getting names for people to play co-op with. That's a lot of fun. My PSN name is 'Desynthesis', feel free to add me.

To be fair, lots of games that allow you to create a character has some sort of slider for breast size. It's logical that if the game is going to let you control the various body proportions, that breast size would and should be included.

Not that there aren't obvious perv motives behind it, too.

    No idea about hard modes.

There seem to be more costumes than NG2, at least 4 per character. There were costumes as pre-order bonuses, but maybe they can be unlocked anyway.

Id be interested in this if they patched out the HORRIBLE camera and glitches from the Xbox 360 version of NG2

A damn shame since Black (the full version with all updates) is one of the most polished action games I've ever played. I've never blamed the camera for my death in NG since I think it worked fairly well, but in NG is was controller throwingly frustrating. Me literally trying to snap a controller in half with my bare hands is a big deal since I love getting my ass kicked in super hard games, then coming back learning from my mistakes. In NG2 I was legitiatley dying because the camera wiuld flip around reversing my controls and making me run into an enemy, get hit by an attack, etc. The tunnel worm boss was awful without glitches, bit I don't think I ever played it where it 'worked' properley, eg, without horrible graphical glitches.

There was plenty of slowdown too, but granted that made the stairs on level 10 or 11 (I forget) absolutley awesome.

The horrible camera is still there and it's still glitchy. They have fixed a few of the more absurdly bullshit places however and it won't be as bad (especially as the game sports reduced difficulty on normal, reducing these problems).

But the new characters in 3 and 4 were laaaaaaaaaaaaaame. And they nerfed Bass and Gen-fu. Gen-fu was probably the strongest character in DOA2. Actually, he was the strongest by a wide margin if I remember correctly. Soccer combos ftw!

The overwhelming absurdity of DOA2's movelist helped balance it out. Any character had the potential to win with 2 or 3 mistakes, so you could never count them out. And it made tag fights more fun.

DOA4 replaced the normal throws with tag throws, which was dumb as hell, and seemed to have far fewer actual tag throws than DOA2:HC. Or there weren't that many new ones.

From a visceral, good times perspective the DOA series is top of the fighting game heap. They just need to make some smart changes and they can have a properly balanced game to go with all that fun.

I wish I could have played DOA2:U more, though, to see what that was like. The changes they made to holds seemed kind of unneeded to me, but I never got to see how the rest compared. The game looked really nice, though.

Yeah, but Jan Lee's overwhelming cheapness was laaaaaaaaaammmme. And the slower gameplay is less fuuuuunnnnnn.

I had DOA2U on Xbox, it was quite fun, but I'm torn as to whether or not I prefer it over DOA3.

As to the issue of NGS2's offline co-op...it has no split-screen multiplayer or the like, and I don't think there is gameplay over LAN (that tends to be very, very uncommon in PS3 games, I want to say).

Damn, so far it sounds like this is a much better package than the 360 version, which I have yet to finish (the last boss keeps mopping the floor with me, so I figured I'll eventually start over and get the extra life extensions from the Trials of Valor, which I completely missed my first time through). I guess this makes one more reason to eventually pick up a PS3. The Sixaxis jiggle does seem pretty ridiculous though . . .

Seriously, Team Ninja makes some pretty kickass games. I've been playing a lot of DOA4's survival mode lately, just because it's so fun.

It's probably just because you had to play against a lot of Jann Lee, but there are far worse characters to play against. His catch throw was really good, but easy enough to get out of (low hold will prevent another catch throw, all highs, and throws), his juggles were really good as well, but all depended on extremely obvious and extremely high launchers, and that's about the worst he had.

Leon had a sweep that went under mids and so many ways to set up easy combos. Plus, really good throw damage. Ein could easily win with 5 moves, each being better than all of Jann Lee's combined. Gen Fu could win in 2 combos, both set up with his ridiculous stagger throw, which did more damage than Jann Lee's catch throw and had way better mix-up options afterwards. Bass could punish for more than half life and had an amazing staple combos that they got rid of in 3 and 4 (making him balls). Lei Fang had those stupid soft holds and monster combos (though harder to do than most).

I would put Gen-Fu, Ein, Lei Fang, Kasumi, Ayane, and probably Bass above Jann Lee in the annoying or overpowered categories.

No offline co-op. You can play Team Mission mode, but with an AI partner.

Speaking as someone who has traditionally used Kasumi and Ayane, yeah, I'd agree. Though with DOA4, I taught myself to use Lisa (with varying degrees of success), simply because she's a lot of fun to use.

Still, damn Ryu Hayabusa to hell online. There's a reason he's the most popular character, and it's not because of the NG games. Goddamn izuna drop is so easy to execute online, same for teleporting moves.

Ayane especially was fun to play in DOA2. The nerfed most of the stuff I liked about her by the time 4 came out.

And izuna drop it quite dumb, but fortunately for me nobody I played with wanted anything to do with him. Though he was much more fun in DOA2 when he had that stupid handstand stance (that shit was a riot). We would bust him out once and a while for humiliation purposes, because his combos were super easy, and he was really one dimensional except for that stance.

But doing a handstand, jumping over a low (still in a handstand) and then snapping someone's neck with your feet. That shit NEVER gets old.

If you mash izuna drop and at least know the right direction, you will get it 80% of the time, and at least half of it the rest.

If you mean by that in that it never gets any cheesier, than yes.

Ayane and Kasumi were less easy to abuse watonly in DOA4 than DOA2, mostly because the rest of the cast had caught up to them speed-wise (or at least close).

Haven't decided yet whether to start the game on Normal (Easier) or Hard (same?). I might just do Normal again so I can quickly unlock the extra characters/trophies, as Hard on 360 was a serious bitch.

    Uh...no, no and no.

Two people can play as the same people online.

They just have to pick different outfits. So, technically, I guess that makes one yes?

Ah, technically, there are at least 10 male characters:

    Ryu Hayabusa
    Ein/Hayate (same person, different characters)
    Zack (don't forget it, motherfucker)
    Bass
    Brad Wong (drunken style)
    Leon

From all reports Warrior is easier than NG2. You have to beat the game to unlock Mentor, which is also easier than NG2. The biggest difference seems to be that they've significantly cut down on projectile enemies in many areas, and you don't need souls/money to upgrade your weapons (so you can buy items instead).

No word on Master Ninja mode yet.

There still seems to be plenty of hardship in the challenge and co-op missions, though.

Also, the Armadillo boss doesn't explode anymore when you kill him.

You can use the same characters in co-op. You start with only Ryu, so you'd have to. But you'll have all 4 characters before you've beaten the game.

I just beat the Armadillo. It definitely exploded. Definitely. I held block out of habit, but I don't know if it just doesn't damage you now.

About the weapons, the only issue with the new upgrade system is I now have way more money than I would ever spend. Only on warrior so far, so maybe this will be useful in MN when I need more items though.

Does anyone know if they fixed the frame rate issues? That was one of my biggest problems with ng2. Especially the massive fight with ninja's on the stairs and on the first level underneath the waterfall were most notable. I tried the Sigma 2 demo and noticed a slight dip in frames underneath the waterfall, whereas in ng2 on 360 it turned into a slide-show.

Also, reading this thread I'm kind of shocked at certain opinions on ng2. I know I'm late to the thread, but I wanted to say my peace about ng vs ng2. I still think that the improved weaponry with tons more moves and the overall brutality of the combat makes it better than ng:black. To me I love that its faster, more brutal, the new weapons, and that its harder (except the bosses).

One of the few things that I don't like is the fact that they changed counter attacks where you have to time a counter a split second before the attack connects with your weapon. I don't really mind the lunge instead of the ninja roll except that it looks pretty weird. Yeah, the boss battles in ng2 I think what drags the game down, but I still love it. The bosses in black were definitely better, and the whip boss is one of the most fun bosses to fight in video game history imo. When I did my first run of ng2 all I could think about was when I would be fighting more of the spider ninja clan dudes. Tearing those guys to pieces was way more satisfying than anything I did in the original ng or black.

You can both use the same characters.

Frankly, I've become very fond of Momiji. The mid-air charge attack is goddamn awesome, especially in groups. "Death from above, motherfuckersssssss!'

(Psst....I think I send you a friends request on PSN. I think. It was sent to 'SOLDIER' anyway...)

Also, NGS2 is much easier than NG2. Boss battles are made significantly easier with the autoaim (and unlimited arrows). I didn't bother with acolyte, went straight to warrior and only died once (just as well, you can only carry one Scroll of Rebirth anyway, and the next level had a second).

Plus, weapon upgrades are free (basically, one per level). So I am not spending money on....anything, unless I play another character.

Hugh Jass, the combat is much more visceral. Really, I wish I could play Black in NG2's combat system and engine. But I do prefer the design and atmosphere of the original game myself. Less Devil May Cry, more 'Wait....that was weird...and unexpected'.

Completed the first level. Those questions about choosing Normal or Hard from the start was null in void, when Hard isn't available from the onset.

Has there been a technical look into how much the graphics improved? I haven't played the original in a while, but I do see an improvement, though I'm not sure what that is other than less instances of screen tearing.

I notice Ryu's eyes glow a hell of a lot more than they did in 360.

I also thought it was amusing how Ryu now automatically visits Muramasa after the attack, since it was originally optional. I'm also glad they brought back the shop music from Sigma 1.

But the statue boss was the funiest thing for me, due to that gesture it does when it awakens. It looks like it's saying to Ryu "hey dude, everything is alllllllright."

And yet despite the new cutscenes, they still didn't add any reasonable transitions over how Ryu eyes the huge twin tower building from the ground, and immediately appears on top of the roof.

At least on 'normal', money is utterly worthless.

Getting through the rocket-spammers in Moscow was a pain in the ass, but there was a specific way to do it. But that required an ass-load of reptition, so if it's toned down, I will not miss it (unlike all the other stuff I miss from NG2).
Rachel's level is more fun than it should be, at least to me. Mostly because she has a hilariously cheap but otherwise very fun ranged weapon. The first time I shot a fiend out of the air while he tried to get the jump on me I laughed so hard. Shame it was short, but she should be a lot of fun in the missions.

They balance that out by giving her a really crappy Ninpo.

    After playing the demo...,

-The camera sucks. Maybe it's because a lot of it was on a narrow causeway, but I don't remember any of Sigma being this bad. And I did notice a drop in framerate at the waterfall that affected my playing ability.
-Not a big fan of the new weapons - are the dual swords and staff still available?
-I didn't think Ayane was a very fun character, with her short range and smaller power. I loved her exploding shuriken, but I don't know if it's all that useful. Since I wasn't a big fan of Rachel in Sigma that means I dislike two of the three additional characters.
