Cleaning up my music files

Sci-Fi WasabiSci-Fi Wasabi Registered User regular
So I started using foobar2000 and realized how messy my mp3s are. Using foobar's built in tagger I corrected typos and missing information. The problem is now my raw mp3 files are named incorrectly. What is the best program to take the updated, correct tags I've made and write new file names to the songs themselves?

foobar2000 should be able to write tags to filenames, and vice versa.

MusicBrainz tagger was alright when I used to use it. Plus it would've saved you all the effort of retagging the files yourself.

Oh, another thought, but MediaMonkey might do filenames from tags, too. I vaguely recall the option existing somewhere... but I could be imagining things.

No, you're correct, MediaMonkey can rename files from tags.

Profile -> Signature Settings -> Hide signatures always. Then you don't have to read this worthless text anymore.

Foobar2000 can definitely do that (and either move or copy to new file), and you have a lot of control over what filenames and folders get created and/or organized.

Indeed it can, it's actually very powerful in that area. I have several profiles set up for organizing my files, and my most frequently used one looks like this:
    $upper($left($swapprefix(%album artist%),1))\$swapprefix(%album artist%)\%album%$ifgreater(%totaldiscs%,1,' ('Disc $num(%discnumber%,1)')',)[ '['%date%']']\$if(%track%,%track%. ,)%artist% - $ifgreater($len(%title%),100,$cut(%title%,100),%title%)

To explain what this does, let's say that we have a 2 disc album like "Brotherhood" by "The Chemical Brothers." The above syntax would organize my files in my music folder like this:
    C\Chemical Brothers, The\Brotherhood (Disc 1) [2008]\01. The Chemical Brothers - Galvanize (feat. Q-Tip).mp3
    C\Chemical Brothers, The\Brotherhood (Disc 1) [2008]\02. The Chemical Brothers - Hey Boy Hey Girl.mp3
    C\Chemical Brothers, The\Brotherhood (Disc 1) [2008]\03. The Chemical Brothers - Block Rockin' Beats.mp3
    C\Chemical Brothers, The\Brotherhood (Disc 1) [2008]\04. The Chemical Brothers - Do It Again.mp3
    C\Chemical Brothers, The\Brotherhood (Disc 1) [2008]\05. The Chemical Brothers - Believe.mp3
    C\Chemical Brothers, The\Brotherhood (Disc 1) [2008]\06. The Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar.mp3
C\Chemical Brothers, The\Brotherhood (Disc 1) [2008]\07. The Chemical Brothers - Let Forever Be (feat. Noel Gallagher).mp3
    C\Chemical Brothers, The\Brotherhood (Disc 1) [2008]\08. The Chemical Brothers - Leave Home.mp3
