I know most of you won't care because you're pubescent teens whose balls just dropped but:
* GarageGames purchased the ownership of the Tribes IP (all Tribes games) from Activision/Vivendi late last year.
* We do have the source code to the game, and the build has been updated with bug fixes
* The build will be distributed through the website, but still playable as a standalone game.
* The game will use the existing Master Server system that the original game used. We will provide a new master server address with the release.
* The game is not compatible with version 1.11 but you should be able to play the same demos as recorded on previous versions
* Mods and configs used in 1.11 will not be directly compatible, without at least minor changes, as the base game scripts have been cleaned up considerably by Andrew
* The game does NOT have updated graphics, this was a PR misunderstanding. The game does support modern file formats (PNG textures, Zip files)
This is cool and all but Tribes is just too old, there's no reason for me to go back and play it now. GarageGames may have the rights to Tribes now but they'll never make a full retail sequel.

I have been TRIBES deprived for too many long years. TRIBES 2 didn't cut it and neither did Vengeance. I couldn't get into Legions either. It was TRIBES-like...but it just felt hollow.
Sure, but having it be this open instead of just the few dedicated enough to find new master servers, can only benefit things.
I wonder if they're going to make any balance changes or if they'll keep it as was with 1.11. They said they're modifying it beyond 1.11 enough that mods and stuff won't work. It would be nice if they fixed the infinite ski speed exploits. It's not fun to play a CTF where a person can not only avoid any and all defenses, but can get from the enemy flag room to cap in 2 seconds flat. This obviously only worked on select stages but still.
