How do I enhance AM radio reception in my car?

    Depends on the stations signal strength more than anything.

    Also, what year/model car do you have?

    1998 Corolla

    The signal of the station should be strong enough, but I'm going to check in some other cars to see if it's not just me (even though I think it is).

    You need a longer antenna. I have to pull my antenna out to get AM stations, but i can leave it pushed all the way in if i just want to listen to FM. I think the ideal length for an AM antenna is 1.5-2 feet long.

    Related question, hope you don't mind: There's an electric train-line that runs down the middle of the North/South bound freeways here. About 20 kilometres out of the city, the AM reception gets really, really awful along the freeway. I assume it's the electric train lines screwing with the reception, since it clears up once you leave the freeway. However, within 20 kilomtres of the city, it's pretty much perfect.

    Could anyone explain how this could be?

    Everything affects AM reception.

    In my roommate's old car you couldn't listen to AM with the windshield wipers on.
