I was in a 25 man naxx pug and ended up getting 2 or 3 tank upgrades on my Warrior. I was hoping to get DPS gear but none dropped. No one else needed it so I off spec rolled for it. I think at this point a lot of people only need a few upgrades so free rolling on multiple pieces isn't that big of a deal.

You are really fucking lucky if you can use Sarth 3D as a judgement for which raiders to keep. Hell, I play on a server that opened on the day TBC went live, and we still can't be that picky about guild applicants.

In order to be able to kick people, you need to have a guild roster that allows it. Thus, you need to have more raiders than you have raid spots. Thus, you're going to have at least 5-6 people sitting out each night (ideally, we sometimes have up to 8-9). To make sure they don't feel like they're missing out on loot, you need to have some sort of loot system that allows them to gain SOMETHING for being available and online.

It depends. For a 25man raiding guild, if you don't have extras available, nd you kick someone for sucking, you then can't put raids together, which usually signals the death bell.

We have a problem with kicking people who are bad. Cos usually they're not bad ALL the time, and often they're well-meaning and/or nice and/or cool people. It's an issue with being hardcore-casual, heh.

Let me say that I operate in an ideal realm. So while the "need to fill spots" is a realistic concern I try to ignore that when discerning who does and does not need to be /gkicked.

That being said the Horde population on the server on which I play is shitty. So we have to keep terrible raiders in order to fill out the ranks.

But, still, it's good to remember who sucks in case a good replacement is found. And that's what I'm mostly talking about. You make a list of who sucks so that when a replacement is found you know who to /gkick.

More like nostalgia for the days where the melee can have the Windfury or Unleashed Rage buff without hoping the right DK is in the raid and we don't spend five minutes after each 6 minute Malygos attempt riding around in circles waiting for Bloodlust to come off cooldown.

10-man Naxx is much better for progression when you put handicaps on the raid. I had a talk with our our kiting tank for Gluth and he researched the kiting strat more in-depth, coordinated better with his shaman healer and hunter, and finished this fight with only 35 stacks. I wanted to do the Lotheb fight and get the achievement, but we were running pretty short on time and we'd have had to clear a different night.

Still two wipes on Grobb though. I don't know what it is with him. We one shot everything else in the zone with no real issues.

Finished my tier 7 set though, which is awesome. It doesn't show complete, because the tier 7 healing helm for priests is crap. Crit > haste any day of the week.

Tonight we're trying for Malygos 10-man for the first serious time. It's been run twice before, but they were really half-hearted attempts with random guildies and didn't last very long. Tonight we play to win.

Unless your raid is completely failing though there aren't any bosses that would require you to ditch subpar members in favor of other people unless you're going for hard mode achievements, which can sometimes be difficult to do with fewer than 25 people.

edit: that sentence seems somewhat unclear. basically I'm saying that needing to replace raiders for difficult hard mode content sucks when you don't have a deep enough roster to replace them. if you're not doing hard mode then it doesn't matter for the most part how terrible they are.

So we were doing 25 man Naxx last night and we were just entering the Construct quarter. A purple dagger drops off of one of the Aboms. This druid that had recently joined the guild rolled on it and won.

He then said, "Thanks guys, Ill log back on for the last boss."

    Wait what?

This is the guy that on Loatheb went afk during the ready check and came back during what had to be the last one percent of the boss*. Fortunately he didn't get it, but the loot master let him roll because she didn't realize how short of a time he had been there. (I told her afterwards that he had only done 50000 damage total)

*This was the first time he did this. He has since done this a couple times. Now you ask, why hasn't the guild kicked him yet? Well I'm going to make my case to the guild lead tonight. We were convinced he was 14 or something... and while a little shit, the guild is fairly family friendly and while we probably wouldn't have let him raid from thereon, we would probably have just let him stay. But I asked him and he said he was 18. So screw him. The really hilarious thing is that on Saturday he was trying to organize a group for 10 man Malygos.

Age shouldn't matter, if you're a tool, you're a tool. The fact that your Raid Leader allows this behavior to continue is questionable at best. When/If that ever happened on our run, that person would be excluded for any drops period. back in kara days we used to have people sign up for our run only on nights we were going for Prince or Nightbane, but not for other nights.... those people never got to run with us.

I'd rather pug that persons position and run the risk the pug isn't fantastic, than to take someone I know is only there for 1/5th of a fight...

"Roll if you need it" has always been a good rule for us, whether in 10 or 25 man. We've had people walk away with upgrades in near every slot, but thems the breaks. You can roll again next week and have a better shot, since that guy that beat you won't have to roll against you again. We've only had the rarest cases where someone would complain but they're world renowned dramawhores anyway so it hardly has to do with the system.

As I said the guild is rather family friendly. So there is some forgiveness for bad behavior in a youngin with the caveat that we would try to disabuse him of the behavior. Knowing hes old enough to know better might just get him a full /gkick rather than just not letting him raid with us. Regardless, he was kicked from the raid after that happened, and wasn't let back in when he got back on later and asked.

The big downside to Roll If You Need It is that then you get a situation where a terrible player, such as a warlock doing 2k DPS in a 25man raid, gets something like the Turning Tide over a warlock who has every other item he needs, Turning Tide is the last big upgrade for him, he's been waiting for weeks for it, he pulls an amazing amount of DPS, but the shit player gets it.

This is why I fear missing a single Naxx raid - we've never seen Inevitable Defeat drop once, and it's one of the very last upgrades i need to have the optimised tanking gear for my DK. I'm just worried my guild will start pulling some BS like throwing "Sarth 3D then Naxx" (a fight I have no interest in) around. Malygos is fine. Sarth2D is fine. Sarth3D bugs the crap out of me and I don't ever want to try it - it's too much like Archimonde where one wipe spells doom, and just about every guild will, after a while of wiping consecutively, turn on those people who blinked and got hit by the proverbial truck and hang them for their "crime".
