So I recently attempted my yearly fresh install of windows, but things went sour this time. When windows tries to install, some files will fail to copy, and they are different with each install attempt. now i've got a broken copy of windows! Things I've tried include:
installing on a brand new hardrive
attempting to install with single sticks of ram(I've got 2gigs in dual channel)
ive tried it on my laptop's original harddrive and a newly purchased harddrive with no luck(many friends and tech support dudes had suggested it was probably my harddrive dying).
the cd can complete an installation on other computers. I should have mentioned: I actually sort of though it was a cd problem, so i tried to install Ubuntu. The same sort of thing happens with that; random files will fail to copy over.
I don't think that's an option as this is a laptop . I think at this point that's the only thing it can be, so im throwing in the towel and picking up a new system tomorrow.

Thanks anyways dudes
laptops usually have removable optical drives.
if yours doesn't for some reason you can always get an external optical drive for maybe 30 bucks.

When you say it works fine, do you mean for a full installation, or just a read in Windows?
