Leaving a Paper Trail regarding rental damange in BC

Hi all,

I'm planning to mail my current landlord some pictures of water damage in my current apartment. I want to CC this to either myself or the 'proper authorities' for proof that the landlord has been notified. Who should I CC, and how do I go about doing this?

I've been in this condo for about 4 years and water damage has been a constant problem.
heavy renovations were completed about 2 years ago in an effort to fix it. The new walls are now being damaged as well. The landlord has seen the damage by sight about 6 months ago and hasn't done anything about it. I'm planning on moving out sometime in the next year and want a paper trail that I've notified the landlord. I figure a paper trail will help to prevent any disputes regarding my damage deposit.

Just copy yourself. If they're going to cause trouble and deny you notified them you're headed to court anyway. And at least in the US, if they want to claim that the email you're using to prove notification is false, then the burden is on them to prove it.

You could also mail them a hard copy and get a receipt from the post office.

    I wasn't clear.

This is all through snail mail. Everything is a hardcopy.

Mail a copy to yourself and leave it unopened. Also, take pictures, write up a description, and have two witnesses sign it, attesting to its validity.

Serp, the Residential Tenancy Branch site probably has the info you need.
