I'm trying to decide if I want to indulge and play the copies of Punch-Out and Super Punch-Out I have to keep me occupied until I get the new one, or if I should hold out so the new one is even fresher when I play it. What are you all doing?

To me, Mr. Sandman had the least personality but that also made him the scariest to me. He has that certain something about him.
Well, it does sort of make sense.
especially if they went the with an Apollo creed homage/rip-off for his look and personality, which would be awesome.

He does have an appropriate world-champion name.
"Mr. Sandman" just screams that he specializes in making people unconscious. "Super Macho Man" doesn't have the same ring to it.

The sweater's awesome. I'm sure you'll be able to buy it at the Nintendo Store... that place is full of all kinds of awesome crap you can't find anywhere else. Or online. Goddammit.

So what's the confirmed roster? If the guy's doing snapshots, I guess he's legit.

I always liked that there was no silliness with Popinski. He didn't have any ridiculous special moves and no weird trick to wreck him, you just had to straight out-box him to win.

Actually there was a trick to beating him but it is probably a bug:

I don't know about this "not throwing a punch" thing, that sounds completely wrong. Unless there's another bug that makes you always win by decision against him.

Not that we need reviews to tell us to buy this game, but:

    GameInformer - 9/10

    1UP - A+ (10/10)

    1UP wrote:
To come straight to the point, Punch Out!! on Wii isn't as good as the original. It is, in every aspect, far and away a much better game.

The best videogame remakes aren't the ones that slavishly recreate every aspect of their originals, nor are they wholly new creations dressed in the trappings of nostalgia. They're more like what's been done with Punch Out!! (don't forget the exclamation points): a game that isn't so much a reincarnation of its 8-bit daddy, as it is an amplification. It's not what the old game actually was, but what we remember it being. It takes the parts that loom large in our memory, and expands them to match the stature they've gained over the years.

    ...

The already tight controls are even more responsive, the tricks of timing and observation have more depth, and the physical consequences of success or failure are much clearer. You always used to know when you screwed up a punch, but now it's even more obvious just how badly you're being punished for it -- without any need to glance at the life bar.

Just as importantly, Punch Out!! is not a short game. The Major, Minor, and World circuits include all the original fighters, a couple new ones, and even reintroduces some characters from the under-appreciated SNES game. But it may seem that it's cleaving just a little too close to its source material. Beating the last guy and winning the championship is an accomplishment, to be sure, but it wouldn't have been enough. Fortunately, that's where the game really comes into its own.

    Oh shit.
Title Defense mode, unlocked upon completion of the original three circuits, isn't just some kind of tacked-on bonus. In fact, it's more than half of the game. Each of your opponents return; faster, tougher, and with whole new patterns that subvert your expectations. It's kind of a shock when, after finally taking down
    Mr. Sandman
and claiming the belt, you get your ass completely handed to you by Glass freaking Joe. The realization dawns that if he's actually managed to become a credible threat, what is the last guy you narrowly scraped past going to be like when you finally make it that far? The original three circuits are practically an introduction.

SO MUCH DAMNED FUN! This game brought me way back to my childhood; the nostalgia just overwhelmed me and took me for a ride back to the 80's and 90's.

This game is $40 at Amazon right now. It pushed me over the edge it did.

I played the NES game for the first time on the VC two months ago. I've been playing it every day since then, trying to conquer all the circuits. Just beat Piston Honda 2. Great Tiger and Bald Bull kept me trying for a while.

As soon as I defeat Mr Dream it's on to Super Punchout!!

Ah! I just thought of something somewhat interesting:

Is this a remake in the vein of "Punch-Out as if it happened today" or "Punch-Out as it was back in the day"? Will Soda Popinski, for example, still come out to the tune of that Soviet hymn thing and do his whole "Puny little American! Great Soviet boxer shall crush you!" laughing bit before the match? Will he just be a dude from Russia? Or will he be a combo, mourning the fall of the Soviet Union in the way that stereotypical hardcore soviets are supposed to?
