Only problem I get from watching gameplay vids is that this looks so damn easy. I know this has probably been mentioned already but I'm too lazy to scroll through all the posts.

Timing is everything in the Punch-Out!! games. Half a second off on a dodge/block and you take a hit. Looking at video of the later fights, you can take maybe 5 hits before you're on the canvas, where you have to hit your opponent a good 20-30 times to knock him down.

Also, none of this video is from the Title Defense mode, which would be where the meat of the challenge is.

read the IGN interview just now, sounds good. One thing I'm still wondering. is this straight up boxing like the original NES version, or they doing that garbage with weapons (sticks, hair, juggling balls, etc..) like in the SNES version. I don't want to find out Disco Kid is throwing disco balls at me, or Soda stabbing me with a broken bottle.

Looks like the most non-boxing move in the game is a bear hug or a head butt. Probably why they chose Aran Ryan from the SNES version over some of the "more popular" choices like Dragon Chan or Masked Muscle.

I actually didn't mind the inclusion of the weapons, etc in the SNES version. I mean, it's not like they were trying to be realistic anyway, and the opponent's 'cheating' just made it better when you won. I preferred Super's set-up more than the NES version, but this looks so good that I just don't care about the change back.

So we're all gettin' up about the game, but since I've got like three days before I can get my mitts on it I'm wondering more about the game swag. Like that Heavyweight Champion Kit. Like the Doc Louis Remedy Chocolate Bar in that Heavyweight Champion Kit. Like if the DLRCB is fucking delicious or not.

Dont suppose anyone's taken the dip or gotten their hands on one...?

This person has. Apparently the chocolate bar is normal chocolate, not even stamped.

We have a video of Aran Ryan now, though it's terrible quality (seriously you probably shouldn't watch it). But it shows his personality and he is insane and needs Ritalin and has some sort of Little Mac vendetta.

the joystiq review has some better footage of ryan.

This game really doesn't support the classic controller? Why not? Nintendo needs to be more firm with that sort of thing. Is there a new game besides Mario Kart that supports the Classic Controller?

Capcom Vs Tetsunoku supports the Classic Controller.

Wait, is Super Punch out on the VC?

    Yep.

    Fixed that problem.

Flew thru the minor and major league just fine, except for Sandman, took me 2 retries to figure out his pattern again.

World cup took a bit more. Aran Ryan used up all my continues right off the bat. Hikea and Mad Clown were pushovers though. I did have some trouble with Machoman, which meant I had to restart the whole thing once.

Now I have to redo both Major and World to unlock special.

I grabbed the original PO and SPO yesterday. The original owned me quite early with the mighty Soda Popinski, but after much tough love I made it all the way to Rick for the first time in SPO. And I dont see myself passing this point anytime soon. Christ he is a beast, I die too fast to even really learn it.

Machoman gave me some serious shit for awhile, and the fact I would have to beat him without a loss seemed pretty scary. But I was so goddamned good at the other three, solidly beating the silly bad top times they had, that I just needed a simple good outing on Macho to do it.

Having played through SPO I kind of wish Narcis Prince was in the new game, that was a fun an interesting fight.

So it's really on shelves? On a Tuesday? Wow. Can't wait for lunch break.

EDIT: on IGN's Twitter one of the guys predicted big sales for this. I believe the word he used was "boffo" sales because of the good reviews and good advertising. Here's hoping.

EDIT: What is the possibility of Nintendo releasing a patch that would allow Classic Controller? Have they done that yet? I don't think so. Maybe even some DLC with a new Boxer or something? The memory issue is pretty much a non-issue, now.

I know everyone's asking for classic controller support, but I gotta say: I'm excited for the sideways-Wii controller goodness. It's... just full circle nostalgia for me.

Here's a dumb question, though: any idea if the old Gamecube controllers will work, in lieu of classic controller?

How does that chain even stay in business? I mean, every time the wife and go to Kmart, they never have what we are looking for. On the rare ocassion they do have it, we know Target will have it for less any way.

Not only that but they have a bunch, a bunch of games that have been sitting on the shelf for something like 4 years and haven't been discounted one bit.

So I picked up Punchout for "free" today.

And by free, I mean I traded in about 5 gamecube games. Mario Party 6 and 7, Soul Caliber and Sonic Heroes. Combine that with the employee discount and I'm set.

Unfortunately the wife also got a deal on EA Active, so I have the game in my possesion, just no the TV to go with it. :(

Video's of the 12 fighters, with Sandman shown.

    Very true.

Currently doing a few practice bouts, maybe I can figure out the timing for that damn 1-hit knockdown on him. done it a few times, but I can't figure out the exact time to counter-punch.

Bastard also counter-punched one of my Star Punches, so this is personal.

The next 2 hours cannot pass quickly enough. Swung by Best Buy at lunch and picked this up. No $10 gift card though. The register didn't notify the cashier and I didn't want to make a big deal out of it as I was in a hurry anyway. I did check their site when I got back and didn't see mention of the gift card there anymore and I could have sworn I saw it yesterday. Oh well no biggie. I just want it to be 5pm.

Edit: Ahhh, just recheked. It was an email I got from being a rewards member and I was supposed to print a coupon... oh well, I'm sure I'll get more than $50 worth out of the game anyway.
