The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I love this show. It's not going to get canceled anytime soon, is it? That would suck. I haven't watched it much this season, but I saw the last two episodes. Great stuff, IMO.
The camera is intentionally shoddy, it adds a strange effect to the show..and if you don't like the script or the Shat, you're missing out.
Wow. Intentionally shitty camera-work? What a stupid fucking idea. The script is not only lacking in humor, but the actors all suck at delivering the shitty lines in the first place. The episode I saw had like half a scene with William Shatner, and he was more watchable than everyone else.
Like I said in the OP, the humor is pretty out there, and you have to read into it to figure out what's funny and what isn't.
Were you watching an episode from the first season? I didn't like the show much at that point, but it grows on you eventually. You just have to keep watching.
If you notice in the later episodes(like now), the camera focuses on all the strange things in a scene, and it makes the entire show a lot funnier for doing so.

I think it might have been a recent episode. The humor is not "out-there"; it's just stupid. I get it, it's not funny
Bizarre humor is meant to only appeal to certain people, not everyone.
it's not bizarre. Bizarre is stuff like Perry Bible Fellowship (which is mostly on the surreal side). This is just not funny. I mean, I can't fathom how under any circumstances any line that was meant to be "funny" would make anyone laugh. I admit one scene caught a chuckle out of me, but that's just because it had a vicious personal attack that was pretty awesome.
It's not "bizarre" but it certainly is "shit" which appeals only to certain people anyway so I guess you're half right.
I caught this show partway through the second or third season I think, but they're showing repeats of the first season at the moment, and everything I've seen has been good. I don't think the scripts are brilliant, and I usually hate legal dramas but I love the show just for the comedy and the actors. Half an episode is reaction shots to some truly surreal shit. Some of the younger cast have been kind of average (go home stupid lady from Ed!) but the Shat, James Spader, Candice Bergman, Rene Auberjonis and Captain Craggy are superb. And they get some pretty fucking awesome special guests too.
I'd watch the show just for the relationship between the two male leads to be honest. Their ability to go from ridiculous to tragic without skipping a beat is hells of impressive.

Exactly. It's gloriously silly and it knows it, Spader has great lines, Shatner's delivery is spot-on. I don't know if I'd buy it, but it definitely makes my monday nights better.
I was a bit turned off at the start of the second season when they seemed to take the focus off of Spader and Shatner. Then it got better again when they brought Selleck in for a few episodes. Though sadly I haven't seen much of this season.

Hands (Jerry Espensen) has been in the show a ton this season. And they've introduced a couple of great new characters.
I'm so sad though, they killed off [spoiler:a5c54b5048]Michael J. Fox's character[/spoiler:a5c54b5048].
Oh, also, they desperately need to do another Donny Crane episode.
The male lead opposite Shatner was introduced in the last few seasons of The Practice and moved to a different practice where his talents would be more appreciated.
If i remember correctly Shatner was even in an episode on the practice.
Yeah the Practice was going to be cancelled in it's last season (for good reason) and then they brought on Spader as Alan Shore and made the show all about him. He worked with the other cast members from the Practice, but every episode Spader black mailed somebody or something hilariously unethical. So they end up firing him and Spader makes their lives a living hell until Shatner comes on, hires him to his firm and that's the end of the show.

That and it's too damn hilarious.

Last season...the kidnapped kid episode...oh my god that was amazing.

Then next season Boston Legal started.
(Aside: I also love Perry Bible Fellowship.)
