The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
9:00 PST/12:00 EST Iwata will presumably be giving a keynote at GDC. He will show data and graphs and charts and nothing of interest to gamers; especially "core" gamers. His press staff have announced that his english will be a bit halting and slow but he will conduct himself with dignity and perhaps bow once or twice.
There will probably be a live blog somewhere. This blog will be greatly disappointed in the content of Iwata's speech. I might put it here if someone throws a link my way so we can absorb the palpable disappointment.
There are rumors, as there always are, that prominent classic characters will be making an appearance in new games but as usual these are all clearly unsubstantiated. There are also a few who claim they know what is coming in some capacity but cannot elaborate (Sam Kennedy, Matt Cassamassina). These are barely more tolerable than rumors.
Clear out your lunchbreaks, grab some popcorn and stand back to watch another classic meltdown.
Well, it looks that Nintendo has pulled both Wii and DSi shops down for maintenance, and surprisingly enough, according to message both should up right after Iwata's keynote ends.

listen, you, I want to be excited by Nintendo in the first time in what feels like forever. Don't ruin this for me!
I hear from my secret undercover source that they're revealing Kid Wiicarus today. Make sure to watch the whole thing no matter what important plans you have to put off to do so.

Have they ever done this for a Keynote before? Reminds me of "The Apple Store is Down!" and it ends up just being maintenance.
I'm not getting my hopes up, but then again, other than a storage solution (which I haven't had to mess with yet, anyway), I'm not hoping for anything.
Great OP....people that are hyping this up are going to be SO disappointed.

No, no, it's Man Icarus, the tale of a dark and brooding anti-hero.
The only thing I want to hear about (and I'm almost sure will be discussed here or somewhere else at GDC) is details on DSiWare for the U.S. launch and the following few months. And, yes, forums everywhere will fall apart at the lack of killer app announcements. Zelda fan dreams really do power the Internet, don't they?
I forget, does Nintendo have a better track record on GDC than at E3 as of late, or will we have to wait until June?
Anyway, no hope. No one say fucking anything about hope or anything hopeful. I will have people slayed.
Phantom Hourglass was announced at GDC, I believe.
As Person X said, Person Y said that there might be things to hope for. I highly, highly doubt that, but I'll mention it anyway because it might create some hope.
But of course, I'll still pay attention...
What-did-I-tell-you?! It's right there in the post above yours you... You... GOOMBA!
"Nintendo global president Satoru Iwata will talk about Nintendo's role in creating better tools and bringing opportunities for developers to introduce their innovative ideas to a marketplace that is increasingly willing and eager to embrace new game design possibilities."
In other words, more DLC, some storage solution/Wii(Blank) that no gamer cares about, Motion Plus hum-drummery and more bragging about how Wii Fit and Wii Sports is selling more than games that actually commit resources to quality and better, more memorable experiences and why this is a good thing.
IGN has a twitter feed. Apparently they have actually played Duke Nukem, so there may be a tiny chance that the keynote won't be boring - miracles still happen in gaming.
It only takes a cursory glance at most gaming sites' coverage of Nintendo to figure out why Nintendo has pretty much given up on catering to gaming sites.

Seriously, the speech is just as much for investors and actual news sites and whatnot as it is for us.
It looks like that Nintendo announces new game today. According to Gamepro, selected press members have already seen the game and interviewed producer. Embargo ends fifteen minutes after the keynote. Could it even be Zelda? Nintendo invited many press members to japan interview Anouma about OoT 10th anniversary about month ago, and that would have been perfect time for show new product. Not really that farfetched considering because usually interviews for big announcements are made in advantage.
In other news, both Wii and DSi stores are currently down due maintenance, and should be back after the keynote. Storage solution? Quite possible considering Iwata promised in october that storage solution would be out in march.

Well, if anything awesome is announced...I'm at work. Woo.
I'll have to remember to check the internets at about 9, 9:30 and 10....

Can we get the chemicals in. 'Cause anything's better than this.

Great, now you have me hoping for a storage solution announcement effective immediately, too.

Ever since last year, I've decided waiting in anticipation and hope for specifics is bleh.
Is GDC only targetted to media people, or can the general public attend?
Ask yourself this: What does the D in GDC stand for?
DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS.
Anybody can attend, but doing so is a much more reasonable excursion for someone working in the industry and with a benefactor to pay their way. Otherwise, A full access ticket costs $700-$800.
It helps to be a student.

We never heard back from a couple of those from the Blizzard Announcement -> D3 thread, did we?
Poor, brave souls.
Apparently filming is only allowed for the first five minutes and then it's embargo time. But live-blogs are a given. Look around.
PA take on last year's E3 conferences.
Hmm...how would you translate that middle panel to Japanese?

That's pretty awesome. I wonder what "random t-shirt" would entail.
Oh boy, that's going to hurt my friend.
It'll be a Nintendogs shirt.
