I really like Space Giraffe. So does Kieron Gillen and and Jonathan Blow and and me. Ignore the haters.
One of these people is reputable. Of the other two, one is an unbearably pretentious cretin so far up his own arse that he wears himself as a hat, and the other wants his friend's kittens to die.

Well, I wouldn't personally describe Jonathan Blow as reputable.
Space Giraffe is an exercise in how distracting a designer can make a background in order to make it hard for you to see the game. Squid Yes: Not So Octopus subscribes to this philosophy as well, and to anyone who has the faintest idea about interface design it's completely abhorrent.

It's for another thread, but from anything I could see, Braid was a very good and successful game, and all the "Blow is a pretentious wanker" talk came from everyone else, but was never exuded by him.
I don't want his kittens to die, I just want to keep tabs on whether they have or not.
Also, I would probably say Jonathan Blow was pretentious if he didn't have the game to back it up. Not only is braid an excellent game, it is a very intelligent game, and it's basically his baby. I think articulate, intelligent and passionate are far better ways of describing him.
And regarding Space Giraffe. I played the PC version, and apparently that makes a big difference, but I think the main reason it was largely misunderstood is that you have to really perceiver. If it was made a lot more accessible, you would loose the feeling of zen mastery of the game you get from when it finally clicks.
You don't have to totally rely on the graphics, there are also lots of visual clues. Also, the things that do kill you "without you even being able to see them" all have ways round them. It becomes a totally different (and amazing) game when you master it's mechanics.
And I think we're probably all in agreement that KG writes excellent words about games.
Alright, so I tried out the L4D2 demo earlier today, and as well as having my mind blown by the awesome, I also found out that my microphone doesn't work too good.
It's a replacement that I bought because i'd lost the microphone to my Fatal1ty headset, Logitech, around £10 from Argos.
I'd very much like to find either a batter microphone, or a better headset, either would do nicely.
Free on Friday? Want to be a roaming reporter for SavyGamer, and take a visit to EA's offices to play Skate 3 and have lunch?
PM me if the answer to all of that is yes
I would love to! ...but I will have work. I don't think I can skip a day in my first week. I own and love the first 2 skate games so this is a crying shame.
'Fraid not. I've become one of those loathsome nine 'til fivers (albeit in a cool job). Presumably there is no way to rearrange it onto a weekend, but if there were I'd be all over it.

...
Do you mean audio cues?
And hey, this would probably be best in a different thread before we clog this one up too much.

I'd probably contribute to a "Why Space giraffe is awesome unless you are an idiot" thread, but I don't care enough to make it myself.

You want chips with that?
Heh.
So that was originally more expensive than the Fatal1ty at RRP?
Wow, either it's really good, or they're overcharging.
Might not be new to all of you, but is a good little loophole-esque thing.
Er.. Yeah
I just moved to Guildford for a new job last weekend

If Asda/Tesco beat/match that, then you can get PC World to pricematch to ~ £24
What platform are we talking here?
Wait, you mean they are doing a PC version?
