GOP Alternate "Budget": $TEXAS Sized Tax Cut for the Rich
So there's an alternative "budget" out today from the Republicans. I put that in quotes because it's thoroughly lacking in detail beyond a huge tax cut for anyone making over $100,000. The top tax bracket under this plan would go from 35% to 25%. Boehner says the details are forthcoming next week. Until then, we can speculate on how badly the "budget" is going to gut everything except military spending. I'm not sure that that these guys really get that siding with the rich in class warfare isn't very smart when most of the middle class is unhappy with the fat cats right now. Is doubling down on tax cuts that won't help the middle class really the way back to electoral success?

I read the Sullivan article on this. It involves cutting spending to a lot of programs (in the vein of the National Endowment for the Arts, aid to Palestinian infrastructure building, ACORN funding, etc) and then...
Boner: "Here's our budget."
Press: "Where?"
Boner (magic hands): "Here."
Press: "This just says: Tax Cuts for Rich Folks. Where's the rest?"
Boner: "Hey- it's not ready yet."
Press: "So this isn't a budget, is it?"
Boner: "Screw you guys, I'm going home."

Boehner and McConnell have approval ratings that are only slightly higher then the Devil. They can propose whatever stupid shit they want, it won't matter.

Republicans as Cartman makes a lot of sense, really.

The idea that your vote is a moral statement about you or who you vote for is some backwards ass libertarian nonsense. Your vote is about society. Vote to protect the vulnerable.

It's 10 points higher last time I saw Cheney's approvals.

Their spending cuts seem to center around the general category of "things that actually help people". Actually, that really seems to encapsulate the priorities of the party in general. If it helps anyone beyond making rich people richer or making Christians less tolerant, it's unessential.
"No, I expect it'll be out next week," he said, though the House is expected to vote on the budget next week. "But understand that a budget really is a one-page document. It's just a bunch of numbers."
I will note that the 2008 Federal Budget is as far as I can tell a 64 page document.
Everything I've heard about this suggests that it is a complete joke. To the extent that the reporters should have dropped what they were carrying so they could have pointed and laughed at them at the press conference.

When does the GOP start guffawing and yell, "Ha, we totally got you there!"?

Not to mention the GOP's new alternate plan for the banking crisis is eerily similar to Krugman's nationalization rants.
I really don't know what to make of the party of "small government" demanding that receivership is the better option.
I read this one. Notwithstanding the fact that they're throwing the 'small government' mantra out the window with it, it's nice to see they finally have a plan that resembles something that could be considered sane.

The reporters did appear to be snickering and generally amused that all he had was bullet points of the shit they'd like to put in a budget, and were declaring it the answer to Obama's "you bitches don't even have a budget plan"
Because, you know, when someone says your book report isn't even done, the response isn't to show them you're halfway through reading the book.

Okay, this is just embarassing. He dropped that "expect one page, it's just numbers" shit about the budget specifics line, and the GOP plan is 19 fucking pages long. At least say you only need to finish a few more pages or some shit.

So will we see Boehner be thrown under the bus for this because of the reception his plan received?
I could see this starting a slide where Boehner steps down and then Pence and Cantor fight it out (I'd give Pence the advantage) over House leadership.

“In his egocentric rush to get on camera, Mike Pence threw the rest of the Conference under the bus, specifically Paul Ryan, whose staff has been working night and day for weeks to develop a substantive budget plan," said a GOP aide heavily involved in budget strategy.
Yessssss, keep kicking Pence in the junk you other members of the GOP. Please, please, please!

What's wrong with Pence? I don't know him that much, compared to Boehner, McConnel, and Cantor.
What is the basis for the idea that reducing taxes will increase jobs?
Empirical evidence suggests that putting more money in hands of the lower and middle classes increases the buying power of the largest consumer sector in the country. Why are we expected to believe that putting more money in the hands of the richest will provide for more job growth than simply giving their businesses more customers?

It's because we don't want the rich to "go galt" like they've been threatening.
Honestly, though, how does this not disenfranchise most of the republican base? The social right wingers are generally from poor rural areas. I just don't get it.

Because if you interpret Christina Romer's findings in a particularly stupid way (namely, that the relationship between tax rates and job growth is linear and functions the same in boom times as it does in a bust) you get that result.
