Its been rumored since the beginning that Gamestop was getting an exclusive Scarecrow Challenge map, but I think the info on it was taken down when the game was pushed back. So I wouldn't be surprised if we see that its Scarecrow.

as far as I know, we don't have any gamestop here in Canada (more specifically Montreal, Quebec). Any idea which retailler in Canada will carry this exclusivity, if any?
God, a demo for this game would devour my soul. I kind of hope there isn't one. But, at the same time, I'd like to be able to play it at home before August rolls around.

I have a crisp one hundred dollar bill stowed away just for the collector's edition of this game
I think Gamestop and EB Games are owned by the same company.
Correct. Essentially they are the same company.
Yes. They take the "Deceptive Bastard" approach to online marketing. Gamestop and EB had a merger. One thing I did not check, however, is if EB taxes me like Gamestop does. I'll have to check that out.
I've been tempted to get the CE for this game myself but the recent Edios news that they might be pulling another Kane & Lynch does not exactly make me want to get the game either.

I think he's referring to the fact that Eidos was offering sites/magazines early review copies if they could guarantee a 90% + score for the game.
I'm still partial to getting the CE though, since it actually seems to be shaping up to be a good game. However, finding said CE at a decent price seems impossible.

Yeah, it really does. Especially the cheap shot of LEGO Batman at the end. "Remember LEGO Batman?"
Yes, that game that reviewed pretty decently, sold well and was a nice-enough take on a premise that was a little worn it.

I keep forgetting that I bought LEGO Batman at launch and played it for only an afternoon, because I felt that the Star Wars and Indy games handled the concept better.
Someday I'll go back, but it will probably be long after I've played the hell out of Arkham Asylum.
I have never seen such a blatant display of moneyhating. The "hates" comments have me curling up into a ball of rage.
I now have serious doubts about this game.
I think all of that could be comments towards just how good it really is. Especially considering it's a licensed game that, judging by the combat demo, doesn't suck a huge dick.
Gamestop has a demo "challenge" thing up, where it's basically a square room with a progressively increasing number of bad guys. The combat's actually REALLY fun, I can't wait to utilize a full level.
The counter system is too easy though, all you have to do is turn on detective mode, and little electric lines appear above any bad guy that's about to hit you, prompting you to hit it.
Basically, I'm sold. The combat was what i was worried about, but being able to take on 9 henchmen at once and still have it feel like a solid Batman combat system makes this game a must-buy.

But LEGO Batman DID suck. The fact that it got a metacritic score in the 70's speaks a lot about gaming 'journalism'.
As for the Games Master review, I've seen no evidence that they were moneyhatted so throwing that phrase around just makes you sound like a troll. The fact that Games Master gave Kane & Lynch 68/100 indicates to me that they don't just play along with Eidos' bulshit.
Why, if it isn't my old friend the NDA. I last wrote about you in issue 178, when you were preventing me from talking about certain aspects of MGS4. I said I wouldn't have anything to do with you and, quite graciously, you stood aside and let me use m own judgement to treat the game with the respect it deserved.
That was then. Now, here we are again, and this time you're standing staunchly in front of Batman: Arkham Asylum. To be fair, you're not thumping down an endless list of must-nots onto my keyboard, but you have made one unreasonable request: you're preventing me from talking about something that other gaming media outlets have already covered. You're saying I can't talk about a certain character, when this character has already been mentioned in another, non-Hyper publication - one that was printed in 2008. I hope it's a simple mistake, because if it's not, then I'm truly insulted.
Let's assume your request was genuine. Considering the interested the Bat-public has in this character, what service are you providing by trying to keep his presence a secret? Why wouldn't you use him to try and ensnare a few more interested customers? And don't tell me that this information is going to spoil the game - the cat was out of the bag a year ago.
The way he's used in the game, however , is something that I'm happy to keep a lid on, simply because it's something that should be experienced by a gamer in the moment, not via text in a magazine. That's a decision I made as a gamer and as a writer, and I wish you had enough regard for me in both of those capacities to reach it myself. I'm a big boy now, NDA. I'm quite able to judge when spoilers should remain unspoiled.
That's probably the thing that gets me the most. You, and others like you, with your carefully worded rules and conditions, imply that you have no confidence in how a writer might report on your game, and that you feel the need to control the flow of information as a result. Doing so just limits the pool of material that a writer has at their disposal: everyone's writing about the same thing, reporting on the same thing, and potential consumers are reading about the same thing. Everyone loses. Well, except in the instances when exclusive deals have been organised, giving one outlet more infromation than others.
To this, I'll say that, yes, Hyper will seek out exclusives - not to get in the hip pocket of a publisher, but to guarantee our readers coverage of a game that we think they'll be interested in. Note that "coverage" means just that, and whether it's favourable or condemning will still be up to us. NDAs that force us to change our opinions are NDAs that we'll be throwing in the bin.
But more concerning is that you, NDA, are restricting the evolution of the gaming press. You conditions, crafted to present only the information that you have authorised, won't let us grow, or permit us to decided what information should be reported when. You treat us and the consumer with equal contempt.
I can respect NDAs that simply ask us to confirm that what we're writing will only be for the agreed purpose. "We want to do a preview on Game X for Issue Y that'll go on sale in Month Z," we'll say. "Alright," they'll say. "Sign here." That's fine. But I can't respect ones that tell us what we can't say, cant report, or can't comment on. It's disrespectful to us, and dishonest to our readers.
And that's why I'm proud to report that the Scarecrow is in Batman: Arkham Asylum
Port-script: While writing the above, I engaged in discussion with Atari and told them that Scarecrow's presence in the game has been reported previously. Right before we went to print, I received word that I'm free to acknowledge Scarecrow, but not to discuss "any Scarecrow 'moments'." As mentioned, this was a decision that I had already made, and although this has now been put forward as a request from Atari, my compliance with it is coincidental, not contradictory.
In the same issue there's a preview of Batman and it looks like its shaping up really well
Some of the quotes from the preview
Think about how you felt when you first played Splinter Cell or The Chronicles of Riddick. Think of what it was like being able to hide in the shadows, a deadly force of nature ready to spring into action and fade back into the shadows. Now imagine doing all of those things and being the freaking Batman.
[talking about past batman games]They made him(Batman) a brawler, or a ninja, or a platformer, but never really Batman. Arkham Asylum gets the characters right from the first moment, and everything else just falls into place behind.
They also talk about the confirmed characters, Joker, Killer Croc, Harley Quinn, Commissioner Gordon , Zsasz, Riddler and Oracle (a.k.a Barbara Gordon a.k.a former Batgirl). Not sure if Oracle was confirmed yet or not? But she's going to "provide vital information to our hero from a remote location".
This is out next month right? I'm so psyched for this

So much good stuff coming this year, I kinda forgot this game existed.
My wallet weeps.
I don't think that's unheard of; that said, odds are it'll be dlc and the pre-order just comes with a voucher.

I wouldn't be surprised to see any or all of these "exclusives" eventually show up as DLC for everyone else, though.

If there's an Achievement/Trophy called "Some Days You Just Can't Get Rid Of A Bomb", I will literally buy three copies of this game.

I haven't really trawled the site yet, but I'm sure they've got stuff planned with it. It's basically the "official Gotham City web site".
Where did you hear rumblings of this?

They disappear if you play on "Hard" mode.
Moneyhating? I assume you mean some kind of paid off shilling on the part of the magazine but I've never heard that term before.
Don't hate the money, hate the payer?
