I forget- is there a way to view the abilities that a weapon grants without actually having to equip them? It's really annoying not being able to see what abilities you get from weapons in a store without buying them.

The stores and equipment screens list the abilities that can be learned from each piece of equipment, but not who can learn the ability. That's one of the few aspects of IX that annoyed me.

Kind of run down, always raining, full of giant rats. Welcome to Seattle!
Note: I've never been to Seattle and I'm sure it's very lovely.
Unlike Seattle, it's full of dragons.
I'm not really sure what's going on with the random encounters. The city is under attack by black mages. Why are there dragons, hobgoblins, and other monsters running around? Did they always live here? Did these rat people come across this area and decide, "Man, you know where would be an awesome place to make our homes and raise our children? Here. Right here. It's always raining and it's full of dragons!"
"Funny, I was about to say the same goddamn thing."
We proceed to fight black mages.
This picture looks like the weirdest coocoo clock design ever.
Oh hey treasure! MIMICSSSS!!! Crafted long ago by ancient DMs determined to fuck with their players every which way they can.
"We are not turning this car around, young lady! You should have gone before we left!"
You know, you could replace the word 'human' with 'likable' and the sentence would be just as true.
What kind of name is Dan? That's a really weird name for a rat person.
"Well, I-"
"I wasn't finished." >:(
You've set an awfully large amount of things on fire to be saying that.
Burmecian Soldier Dan: "Lies!"
Ratchel: "He's telling the truth!"
Burmecian Soldier Dan: "...Ratchel!?"
Ratchel: "It's good to see you, Dan."
Burmecian Soldier Dan: "Damn, I haven't seen you in years. Where've
you been!? Actually, this isn't the best time
to talk! We've gotta get out of here fast.
There are black mages swarming all over the
place. What are you waiting for!?"
Ratchel: "Where is the king?"
Burmecian Soldier Dan: "I don't know. I didn't see him in the palace.
Well, I'm going. I have my own family to worry
about. Freya, forget about the king and get out
of here! We're no match for those black mages!"
[Dan runs off.]
Ratchel: "I will protect my home and my king at any cost. Let's go to
the palace.
We save a Burmecian from being crushed by a statue.
The best kind of weapons are free.
"Let's not bother looking. Hey, who wants to go back to Lindblum? First round's on me!"
Ratchel hears something and leaps onto the top of the statue with a single bound. Is this the first time we've seen a dragoon use their absurd jumping ability outside of battle?
Vivi is not as good as Bowie or Ratchel as far as jumping goes.
"No."
"Yes?"
"Yes?"
"Yay!" *runs off*
"Goddammit I knew we should have called him something else."
"I mean, that fat Technicolor lump with the silly helmet could be anyone."
Ratchel has a flashback to talking to her missing beloved, Sir Fratley.
Man: "...Beatrix of Alexandria, in particular. They say her swordsmanship is the best
in the land."
Ratchel: "Sir Fratley, do you still insist on going on your journey?"
Sir Fratley: "Yes... Please understand, Ratchel. Right now, Burmecia is
at peace, while other nations are slowly but surely
gaining power. I don't know if my spear alone is enough
to protect Burmecia... ...which is precisely why I must
go out into the world."
Ratchel: "Sir Fratley...I don't think I can live on my own--not without
you."
Sir Fratley: "Ratchel, you're going to be fine. Trust your strength...
and have faith in your destiny. Once I complete my journey
around the world, I will return to Burmecia."
Ratchel: "Then promise me, one more time, that you will return."
Sir Fratley: "I promise."
[Fratley walks away, and the screen blacks out.]
Ratchel: "Fratley... You never came back... You've left me with nothing
except rumors of your death. I couldn't believe it! I still
won't believe it! Never. Not until I witness proof of your
death with my own eyes. And I will travel forever across the
world forever if I must..."
Mystery...man?
"That and finding a restaurant that is open. Who do I have to eat around here to get something to eat?!"
How dare they be so flammable?!
I did read that in a book about rats once. They often flee after sensing natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and unprovoked attacks via an army of black mages.
They talk of the rats going to a city called Cleyra, located in a desert and protected by a sandstorm.
Kuja's powers include looking like a total fruitcake.
"Well no, I was hoping I could fight the gay guy or the robed elephant seal, they look like they'd be easier..."
Bowie Wright, Ace Attorney.
"Can we go back to our hiding spot and say you just won this round?"
Unf. Eyepatches. I goddamn love a woman with an eyepatch.
Oh. Game. Right. This is one of those boss fights. You know the kind. You can't win. You just need to survive until she gets tired and reduces everyone to 1 hit point. Stealing everything from her before the time is up is hard but I do it because I'm cool (read: obsessive) like that.
"Oh I do hope there is a taco stand open on the way there."
"And look how badly he's dressed! Not a thong in sight!"
Kuja would have been so much better if the developers had just kept him as Zidane's sister instead of pandering to the "Girls who are boys Who like boys to be girls Who do boys like theyre girls Who do girls like theyre boys" crowd.

Okay, so everyone thought Kuja was a woman, but was I the only person who was convinced they were seeing Vivi's butt crack at the beginning of that FMV?
No, I thought the same thing the first time I saw the scene. It wasn't until I saw still images of it later that I realized that it was his shirt tails.
Good, I knew I couldn't be alone on that. I remember back when the game came out I pointed it out to a friend and he thought I was crazy.
Also, do elemental resistances attached to items stack? I have a hat and a ring that both have 50% water resistance, but it seems too good to be true that I could have any 100% resistance this early in the game.
The only thing I don't miss from FF9 is Zidane's shitty Steal rate and how the steal-improving abilities don't seem to work.
All the bosses have some amazing items though, so it was always worth it. Zidane's Thievery ability was always really strong from all the stealing I do.

This game has the best stuff to steal easily. I don't remember any other FF game where you could get so much cool stuff from stealing.
I still think that's what it looks like. Of course, it can't be, because it's impossible to actually see vivi's body, but why is his shirt/coat on the inside of his belt?
Actually - does Vivi even have a true body?
He's constantly called a golem and, given that he's a created being made from Mist, it makes me wonder if he's not just kind of a spirit wrapped up in a old coat and a straw hat.

Steal improving stuff does work, it's just even with them, it's still hard. I reloaded like 3 times to get all three items from Beatrix, and that was with the improved stealing ability. I don't recall if you get more than one though. I hope so.
But then again that was one of the better laughs I've had today.
Anyway, my actual reason for posting: do we have a projected release window for My Life as a Dark Lord.
Why I linked, and not posted it directly.
Uh, that's wierd, I thought we were in the FF General Thead for some reason (hence the MLDK question). Anyway, I didn't realize you only linked the image and not the image page. My mistake.

Now THAT would have been a bad idea. Ohwee~
Haha yeah, that site's nsfw definitely.
Oh yeah the whole "Kuja= female?" thing is far more hilarious for me than it should be. We were discussing it in our little group at school and a guy chimes in "oh yeah I totally beat it to Kuja she's hot." We all look at him "Kuja's a guy, dude." "Nah you guys are messing with me." "...no, he's a guy" ":|"
You're missing the "ooh soft" chapter in the first post. It goes straight from Garnet seeing the barrels with alexandrias crest on them, to the chapter where garnet had just crashed through the south gate after black waltz.

It's been nearly a decade since I played FF9 (...damn) so I can't remember. It tells you something when you do that.
Damn this LP for making me want to play this again... unfortunately I don't have 9 anymore for one reason or another
Good work.
(That said, I'm probably not going to be the reading rest of this until I get through atleast the first disc)

CUTSCENE TIME
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3dw74XNavI
The first few seconds of the song sound like 'We Will Rock You'.
Game! Hey, game! No. NO. This is not our main villain, is it? I want to see the manager. This is unacceptable.
Oh man, even his dragon is fruity.
There goes one of the few men that can pull that outfit off.
...My pants feel funny.
So hey, show of hands, who thought we wouldn't see this screen? I know I'm raising my hand.
I originally thought he was a chick.
You all know you did, too.
Actually that's pretty much a spot-on description of Tacoma.
Also, were those Time Chaser references in there?
All the way up to Disc 3 or so.
Bravo for the reference.
Yes, yes they were.
Edit: There are people following this who haven't played the game, I assume. Jragghen, Fig-D, could you edit those?
I figured I left the real spoiler out, but if you think that that's kinda pushing it then I'll go ahead and edit it.
Edited, but I was more referring to the way he looks than anything else.
Edit: Oh, that one.
Okay, spoilered. I still appreciate the reference though:
Also, do elemental resistances attached to items stack? I have a hat and a ring that both have 50% water resistance, but it seems too good to be true that I could have any 100% resistance this early in the game.
All the bosses have some amazing items though, so it was always worth it. Zidane's Thievery ability was always really strong from all the stealing I do.
I usually just steal twice from every boss and once from every jabroni enemy, which should be enough to charge the crap out of thievery by disk three.
I did too.
