I'm a total whore for tower defense-type games, especially ones where you create armies of happy plants to fend off hordes of zombies, so this game is perfect for me.

According to the PC Gamer review (it got a high score) there's a whole bunch of unlockable bonus modes, including being able to play as the zombies, and defending your lawn while at the same time playing Beghouled with the plants.

The Help Section:
Help for Plants and Zombies Game
When the zombies show up, just sit there and don't do anything. You win the game when the Zombies get to your house. -This help section brought to you by the Zombies.
Tried the demo. Loved it. Unfortunately, I'm completely broke and it'll probably be a couple of months before I can spend money on new games again (all money I'm making at the moment has to go towards bills & essentials). However, I do have a bunch of Goozex points. If someone would be kind of to gift me a copy of the game via Steam, I'd be more than happy to send 400 Goozex points your way. Send me a pm if interested.
According to the purchase screen, there are nearly 50 different plant types and over 2 dozen zombie types which is huge for this sort of game. And judging from the demo, there's a good amount of variety for both items & enemies.
Before my time ran out on the demo, I managed to get:
Default plant (shoots regular bullets - 100 Cost)
Sunflowers (creates Sun which is used to purchase other plants - 50 Cost)
Exploding plant (1 use, destroys enemies - 150 Cost)
Wall plant (Doesn't attack, takes a while for zombies to eat - 50 Cost)
Slow plant (bullets with slow added - 175 Cost)
Potato bombs (1 use, destroys enemies, takes a while after planted before it's ready - 25 Cost)
Venus Flytrap (Eats enemies, vulnerable while digesting - 150 Cost)
I also ran into a mini-game level: zombie bowling.
The demo was pretty easy, but that's to be expected with the first few levels. There's an endless mode that you can unlock which I imagine will be plenty challenging as well as some other modes like Puzzle mode so it should have plenty of replay value & longevity. And the fact that you can only bring a limited number of different types of plants with you into each level should result in some good strategy later on.
also I don't really like the no upgrades and the sunshine as currency thing. I want cold hard cash!
There are both of these things in the full version. Though the upgrades don't work like other TDs. Its a plant you place on top of an existing one to create the upgrade. Cold hard cash is eventually rewarded when killing zombies to allow you to buy upgrades from crazy dave's store. Like extra lawnmowers and upgrade plants and extra seed slots.
I really enjoyed the demo except for the very trial and error approach to checking out new plants. A more solid description or even some numbers somewhere would help a lot.
Hmm, so am I missing something? Because this seems really off. It's 10 bucks on steam, with the 10% off right now from Popcap themselves, it's 18. Again, confused...

I thought the $10 was the pre-order sale with that nuke-tank game. I imagine that its back to $20 normally now.

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it. ~ Terry Pratchett
It's still 10 because the official release isn't til tomorrow. Not seeing a mention of it being a pre-order only price either (but i'm not sure how they typically list that on their site either, so that doesn't mean much). But still, you would have thought the company making the game would be priced at least as well as steam.
Ah. In the full version, apparently you eventually unlock an almanac that lists how plants and zombies work.
Along with a few humourous sentences and quotes from the plants. For example, the Wall-nut has limited senses and cannot feel pain; he only feels a light tingling sensation when chewed. Which makes me feel much better about using them.
EDIT: Thriller zombie moonwalks onto the screen before summoning four zombie back-up dancers. Neat.

Well, my grandpa always said that plants don't grow on money ... or something like that.

I love the need to pick seeds before battles, etc. and hope the game is entertaining enough, even after the 50 adventure mode levels.

You have to unlock that? That seems like a bad thing to keep hidden.
"Here Bobby. You can have this instruction manual after you already know what's in it."
Maybe it just unlocks after the tutorial or something similar.

Plus how his happy face dissipates as he gets eaten. His smile just fades and his eye starts twitching.

haha. I'm a zombie too!
This game looks wacky. But I love it.
I hear you, man.
Sir, please tell me you are not making that up. That is so full of awesome it needs, neigh, begs to be real.

There is music and colourful spotlights and everything.
He's not called Thriller Zombie, obviously, but it's obvious.
Originally I wasn't that interested in this title, but now tommorow night can not come soon enough.
I need Thriller Zombie!
