Is Heavy Weapons Deluxe that good of a game to warrant PvZ's pre-purchase?
The 360 version was awesome. I hear the PC version isn't as good due to inferior controls (the 360 version used dual analog stick controls, the PC version uses mouse controls).
Daaamn, I just played the Heavy Weapons Deluxe demo and I love it!
Why didn't I search about this earlier
edit: So, when I add PvZ to Steam's cart I don't see Heavy Weapons Deluxe...
It'll show up eventually, when you buy it.
The PC version does suffer a bit from the controls, though its still quite playable. They just tied EVERYTHING to the mouse- movement, aiming, etc. So if you aim left you also move left, which can be problematic at times! Dunno why they didn't include an option for keyboard movement..
PvZ is amazing.. worth $10 easily for me. I'm replaying the trial just hoping, for no good reason at all, that it'll turn into the full version. $20 for PvZ would be borderline though.
But I didn't really enjoy Heavy Weapons as much as I think I should have (going by how much you guys seem to gush over it), so it's negligible in my opinion.
On my second playthrough I "unlocked" the Repeater which fires 2 peas at once. Mmmm.. then it kicked me out before I could try it.
I've also discovered a rock-solid strategy involving Potato Mines, Wall-Nuts, and lots and lots of Sunflowers. Here's what I ended up with at the end of the level:
I kinda wish there was a "fast forward" option so that I could speed up more zombies shambling into the gaping maws of doom (and bloom).
I could probably click the sunshine twice as fast, so a 2x speed option would be nice (especially for the trial version wherein I could trial more levels haha).
I doubt I'd pay 20 bucks, but the trial was good enough to throw a hamilton down. I've played a lot of tower defense games lately, and I think this game does it different enough to keep it fresh for me.
So, I lost about 5 hours to this today accidentally. Went all the way through adventure mode with only a couple hiccups and played a handful of the minigames.
A.) The Wall/Chomper or the Chomper/Chomper combo is vicious.
B.) The last boss fight, while not all that hard, was still awesome.
C.) The Zombie Aquarium has got to be the place to grind out cash, aside from the zen garden, which just seems awful.
D.) Hit a Moonwalk Zombie with a Hypnoshroom and laugh your ass off.
E.) Garlic is so overpowered.
F.) The best stages were the 5/10 ones. The last night stage was awesome and panic inducing, until I realized that everything was being slaughtered as it entered the screen.
G.) The Gargantuan zombies are the worst fucking things ever.
H.) But the pogo ones are a close second.
I.) Beghouled (and Twist) are migraine inducing.
J.) I'm missing one zombie from my almanac. The one right after the pogo zombie. Anybody have a clue?

I don't regret my $20 at all.
I don't know where else to find the info so I'll ask here.. what, exactly, are all the minigames? What will keep me playing after the adventure mode?
EDIT: Love the impressions too.. making me droool.
I don't want to have to switch to Windows to play. I do to play Team Fortress and such, but this is a game that I would like to be able to play whenever. Part of the reason I haven't already thrown down is the price difference between PC and Mac.
I wish there was an alternative to get it like there is for PC.

None of them are particularly interesting, but there are a lot. I've only played a handful of them. You unlock more by clearing them. Each one cleared unlocks the next in line.
There are 20 mini-games, 10 Survival modes, 20 Puzzle modes.
Some of the minigames are really fucking stupid, like one where you have to use a slot machine to get plants, and just play normally until you accumulate 2,000 sun.
Beghouled has the entire screen covered with your plants while zombies come in, and you just play Bejeweled while the plants slaughter them. You play until you get 75 matches, and you an upgrade stuff with sun you accumulate through matches as well, or repair spots where the zombies killed plants.
The Zombie Aquarium is just Insaniquarium with zombies instead of fish. And no aliens.
Zombie Bowling is just like the minigame in the trial, only about 4 times as long.
Zombotony was interesting. The Zombies have either peashooter or wallnut heads, which will attack your units, but then you realize that wallnuts pretty much completely neuter them.
One where it just randomly drops seeds and you have to use them. Another with invisible zombies. That's all I've prodded at though. Haven't touched the puzzles or survival modes yet and won't tonight.
The Zen garden looks like the gardening equivilent of Insaniquarium's aquarium nonsense. Something you're supposed to play every day for a few minutes or some crap. Probably how you're supposed to earn the inane amount of cash you need to unlock a lot of the seed upgrades. I only had enough cash for the better sunflowers and the gold magnet, which I immediately regretted buying. You do earn $1,000 for every minigame you clear though, so that adds up fast too.

Agreed, especially in later levels like the Roof it can drag a bit once you get your initial defense set up solidly. I would really like a fast foward button.
That being said, I poured hours upon hours into this last night and looking at the content I still have locked I must have quite a bit more to go. The level varience keeps it very interesting.
I wont spoil it but there is actually a level later on that made me hunch over my keyboard in the dark frantic and borderline terrified of the shambling horde coming at my plants.
Also, Chomper plants with Wall-nut guards are nigh-unstoppable.
So I gave in and put Plants vs. Zombies on my official Goozex request list since I have the points and I've been looking forward to this game for a while. I'm first in line. It's 600 Goozex points. It's still $9.99 on Steam for 2-3 hours more so you could essentially get 600 Goozex points for $10 if you act quick (I assume it's going to go up to full price, $20, after it launches).
I'm going to head off to work in a minute so if you get matched up with me (my Goozex username is the same as my Penny Arcade username, RainbowDespair), my email address is rwb36@hotmail.com (for Steam gifting purposes).
not like we're talking about a 10gb game here and its also not like they didn't have plenty of time to get ready for launch before the actual launch date

I just want to play some more PvZ!! It should be tomorrow right now!!!

Uninstall the game, go into your Program Files folder and delete the Popcap Games folder. After that you can reinstall and play again!
I love you as if you gave me sexual favors.
EDIT: Edit so that everyone may bask in the glorious knowledge.
I have vista, and I tried this, it didn't work. Are you on XP?
Yeah I'm running xp.

But the last boss was still pretty great.
Going for the Still Alive effect, perhaps?
Fair enough!

I think I read that they don't normally release games till around noon pacific time.
I think its 10 till they release it, so I'm not sure you can still get it for that.
Yeah me too.
Annoying.
I can't even visit their website.
