GPU Fan stopped spinning.

So, I don't know too much about computer hardware, but I'm assuming that a graphics card fan is supposed to be spinning. I noticed my computer acting funky last night while I was playing a game (Like it was overheating, graphical glitches, etc) Eventually it locked up and I let it sit overnight. When I was fiddling with it today, I noticed the GPU fan not working, it just sort of wiggled every few seconds.

As far as I can tell, the card still works, since I could run games for a short amount of time before it starts freaking out. Outside of games, the computer seems to run fine. I've kept it off since I noticed the fan so I don't do any more damage to it, but I'm wondering what my options are to fix it. This computer is fairly old, I'm pretty sure I'm outside of any warranty stuff, and I'd like to avoid buying a whole new replacement card. I've also tried re-seating the card and fiddling with the internal power plug thing, no change.

I was searching around and came across this product here, which seems to be a replacement for the existing cooling/fan system.

The card I have is a Geforce 7950GT, which that says it supports. My main question is, is there anything I'm missing here? I'm hoping I'll be able to buy this thing, pry off the existing fan stuff, stick on the new thing and live happily ever after. Also, anything I should know about installing these sorts of things if this plan does make sense? I'm mildly comfortable installing hardware, but I haven't done anything involving heat sinks, thermal paste and things potentially melting themselves before.

That's a good cooler. I would suggest a fan pointing at it if your case doesn't have great airflow.

What brand is your video card - some warranties are really long.

Also, did you try blowing the existing fan out with compressed air? That might clear out the gunk.

    Masscool PCI fan - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835150006

Works surprisingly well, and best part is that you can put it directly under your graphics card.

yeah, you can either put a cooler next to it, or replace the fan. If the fan is twitching, it is either stuck or not getting voltage..

If you are able to extract the fan you might want to check if all it needs is a little new lubrication, if you are going to be digging around there anyway I mean. There is usually a little stopper over the central fan axis that you can open and add a drop or two of oil, I have had fans come back to life from just that and a little dust removal.

But if it turns out you need to replace the whole thing in my experience the only thing you really need to watch out for when playing with thermal paste is to make sure you are not putting too much on, other than that everything tends to shake itself out.
