If I see anything, it'll probably be Adventureland. I think Earth is supposed to be a repackaged version of 'Planet Earth', so I would do better to kidnap Stewart and have him narrate the movie in my living room. Gigantic, well, I'd rather wait for 500 Days of Summer.

How about you, what strikes your fancy for this April?

I hate to say it, but the new Fast and Furious looks like the best one for me. The third film was the only one that I liked, and the director is doing the fourth.

I cannot wait to see Fast and Furious, and whether you admit it or not neither can you. I'll see you there.

Adventureland will be hilarious, but we didn't get it this week (hopefully next week).

    Everything else looks rent-tastic.

And what the fuck? James Marsters and Chow Yun-Fat in a Dragonball movie? And I hadn't heard anything about this? Damn, I must be giving all things anime-esque a wide berth.

I saw a screening of Adventureland a few months ago, and it is pretty funny. The love story isn't anything special, though, and unless they changed the ending it might leave a bad taste in your mouth. Still, the movie's better than the trailers would have you believe.

What's funny is that after seeing it with my friends the first time we were sitting around laughing and going "oh man, wouldn't it be funny if..." and then they did it. Which may or may not be teh sign of a good movie, but it at least should be fun as hell.

Because if the female is the lead and has to put up with the guy until he learns these lessons, then it is a romantic comedy.

I wish Judd Apatow would make a movie starring a woman. He seemed decent enough at writing women in his TV days, but now women are either generic supportive or generic hard to please supporting characters.

The best female in an Apatow comedy so far was Kristen Bell's character in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and in the last quarter of the film she breaks up with boyfriend, gets rejected by the lead, loses her job, and gets herpes.

They definitely seemed to make her the bad guy when I Agree with her, the guy was a lazy dick and she tried to make him not be and he continued to be a lazy dick so she left him. She tried at least, more than he did and he realised too late.

For that shes relegated to some crappy tv show.

Most of the "Apatow" films these days are only produced by him, they are written/directed/etc by others.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall was written by its lead, Jason Segel.

And Apatow had nothing to do with Observe & Report, which looks to be pretty far from a stoner film. According to Cinematical's review, this is a pretty unusual mainstream comedy.

But I do agree, Apatow should write a film with a female lead and/or one with a different comedic style.

EDIT: Hmm, did it really take me that long to write this post? Is it really 8 am in the morning? And where are my socks?

Yeah that review of observe & report basically paints it nothing like an apatow movie.

I heard from someone who saw an advanced screening that it was very very good.

    from that review:
If you've already dismissed Rogen as a one-note pot-smokin' wise-ass, prepare to have those notions re-conceived because the guy is fan-freakin'-tastic here. Funny, of course, amusingly obtuse and arrogant, sure, but also angry, desperate, scared, proud, and lonely. It's a great performance from an actor who's been consistently GOOD so far, but not like this. Not really.
