[D&D 4e Recruitment] Forged by Fire (Leader submissions now welcome)

Forged by Fire

Okay, so, I guess I'm going to start a game.

I'm a relative newbie when it comes to DMing, so, I guess that's part of the requirements for playing--you have to be okay playing with a DM who might make an occasional mistake. You have to be willing to correct me if you know the actual answer. :P

Posting requirement is at least once a day, but if we can get more out of everyone, that'd be awesome. Exceptions are weekends, of course.

I'm looking for the game to have a good amount of roleplay. This isn't going to be a dungeon crawl (not that it isn't going to have combat. The opening especially will have a pretty good amount).

All races/classes are go. All WotC sources are go, including DDI. PHB2 backgrounds are a go as well. Starting level is 1. 22-point buy. 100 starting gold. Myth-weavers for sheets and invisiblecastle for rolls.

Currently there are 5 open spots.

I'm looking to be able to start the game by Monday, so, a deadline of Sunday for character sheets.

Um.. what else?

The world setting isn't particularly important. FR-esque, I suppose, but I'm not using any particular map or background.

Local Setting:

Game opens in a small coastal town named Crownselle. It isn't a major port by any means, but it's common enough for merchant and passenger ships to make stops here for repairs as it sits just beyond some straights that can be particularly dicey.

The area surrounding the city is heavily wooded for a few miles all around, giving way into low hills to the north and west, and sheer ocean cliffs to the east.

You may have picked up rumors on the way there that the local Duke has been having trouble with a particular group of bandits in the area.

The Setup:

Basically you have all come to/are headed towards Crownselle for your own reasons. I'll leave it up to you guys to decide whether any of you want to start out knowing eachother/travelling together or not, but the default is that you're all strangers. But as you post your sheets, feel free to vote on strangers/already established group if you have a preference.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. And if I'm missing something, please let the newbie know! :P

I'll try this guy again because I didn't get to play with him previously.

    Tristan

    http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=115978
    Background:
"My first memory is a whip cracking across my back. It's not a painful memory for me. Rather, an enlightening one. I was brought up a slave to a tribe of goblins. I can only assume the result of a raid, or ambush that killed the rest of my family. It doesn't matter though; they weren't there for me to care. All I cared about at first was doing the bidding of whoever carried that whip. But as a grew older the repeated abuses and my growing knowledge of the world planted a seed of rebellion in my heart. I fought my way out of enslavement, and killed a dozen goblins on the way, too. But I harbor no resentment for my captors. Their feeble attempts to control another creature taught me a valuable lesson. That's why that memory is so enlightening. The art of control. An art the goblins could never hope to fathom. But I understand this art. I understand control of myself, and through that, how to be the most efficient at any task.
Now you may question how the ability to control myself will help when you hire me. I'll tell you this. When I escaped from my enslavement, I didn't succumb to anger and attack everything in sight. No, I carefully chose my path through that dark cave, attacking at the most opportune times. In the most vital places, and calmly found my escape. I killed a dozen goblins that day. Have you ever honestly seen a 12 year old boy do better than that with a stick and a few rocks? In the 8 years since then I've killed dozens more goblins, and have no new scars to show for it. I know battle, and I know how to control it...So when do I start?"

    Personality:
Tristan is a warrior at heart. And a ruthless one at that. He prides himself on being in peak physical condition and openly disdains those who let their bodies grow fat and weak.
He lives by the creed of "excellency in all things". Unfortunately for most people he has no moral compass whatsoever, so he's quite excellent at mocking them.

Hi, I'd be interrested in playing, I am not currently playing any other games. I can post several times a day, especially on week days.

    Bugbear Rogue

    www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=117808

    Background
Born in slavery in a distant land, Bram escaped his fate with a group of other slaves. For a while, they lived the glorious life of fugitives, avoiding cities and roads, sleeping in the rain, raiding farmsteads for food and supplies. Over the weeks his companions started to fall one by one, until only Bram and a human named Rondel were left. Rondel was a small teenager with a quick wit, who got in trouble more often than not. Bram always protected him, risking his life often. Finally, they came to a country where slavery was illegal (and Bugbears tolerated). They sought to make a living in a city, but jobs were scarce and food was costly. Rondel struck a deal with a local criminal element. He sold Bram to a passing slaving ship, in order to buy a nice post with the local dockworkers. Bram surpised him by slipping his restrains and killing the slaver agent with his bare hands. He then proceeded to thoroughly thrash Rondel, and took off with his money. He embarked as deckhands or shipmate aboard various ship, putting distance between himself and his past. Eventually he felt calm enough to resume life on firm land and disembarked in the small town of Crownselle, looking for his future. As a result of his past, trust comes hard to young Bram, however he would be a loyal and fierce companion to whomever could tame him. He also harbors a lot of anger, which gives him a tendancy to hurt people and break things. His life has not yet instilled in him such concepts as honor or justice, but perhaps it is not too late for him to learn...

    Appearance
Black haired bugbear with a scary grin, tends to walk and react slowly when not in battle. His whole bearing radiates anger, begging to be channeled towards a worthy goal.

    Personality
He is brash and provocative, often going out of his way to insult or challenge worthy opponents. However, once befriended, he is a very loyal and fierce companion.

    Ravas, Deva Invoker

    Appearance
Ravas's skin is a pale chalk color with navy blue swirls across his upper body. His head is shaved bald allowing others to see the swirling patterns on his skull.

He generally wears a fine white robe underneath his chainmail, and a plain metal headband across his brow. His sickle hangs ready at his belt though he rarely has reason to draw it, relying instead on his magic.

    Personality
Ravas is characteristically calm and collected, his voice retaining its even tone even in the face of battle. His actions are slow and methodical, and being forced to rush vexes him greatly.

A little arrogant, he tends to show contempt to others until they show themselves willing to stand against the encroaching darkness

    Background
Ravas's current incarnation was "born" amidst a flowering oasis in the south and was found there shortly after by a group of nomads who lived in the region. They took him in and gave him shelter and food, in repayment Ravas spent several years traveling with them; acting as both a protector and a priest. The desert was most peaceful however and Ravas knew that he could do far more in his war against the darkness elsewhere.

After sad goodbyes were made he took his leave and traveled out of the desert to find the place where he could do the most good.

    Divine Strength

    Paladin's Judgement

    Background and Personality
Unable to lie, annoyingly honest and frank about his opinions about the current situation. Willing to fight any foe or overcome any challenge to end injustice. Always prepared to fight and to die for what is right. Never far away from his armor and greatsword. Very rarely will you see Azulan enjoying the mirth and merriment of others. Constantly looking for the next villain to defeat or the next commoner to help. Doesn't care for the constant bickering amongst various races. Grew up with humans, elves and dwarves, and learned all he could from them. Wishes to travel the lands and shine the light of Bahamut on the dark places and peoples of the world.

    Appearance
Unusually tall and stocky for a Half-Elf. Generally accounted for by his constant training as a child. Darker skin than usual and a black head of hair make for an unassuming yet intimidating visage. Very little is known about him, and he likes to keep it that way. Carries a holy symbol crafted by his father, and a greatsword forged by the dwarven friends he grew up with as a child. Constantly mussed appearance shows little regard for personal appearance, as his focus is constantly shifting to more substantive endeavors. If there is one thing that sticks out about his appearance, it is his back, showing an elvish mark for each creature slain in service of Bahamut. There are not many now, but the road ahead shows promise of adventure.

I've always been a one character kind of guy.

    Background:
On the night of his birth, his home town bore witness to an unexpected meteor shower. Daiereth's father, a respected wizard, went to investigate the meteors and never returned. He was 6 at the time.

He longed to know his father, and one day, found his ancient texts and spellbooks. He began studying his fathers books in private. At the age of 10, his mother noticed him casting a familar spell - mage hand - to steal some cookies. She took him to the mage's guild his father once was a member of - Arcanis Majoris.

The elder council of Arcanis Majoris debated about accepting this young pupil. Yiasho, a human wizard who was one of the more respected elders pettitioned for his entrance, and it was granted.

Daiereth began training with the guild. He was trained in rituals and spells for years. He studied the spells until they were mastered. 12 long years in the guild, with little contact with anyone not in the guild had made him an excellent practicioner of magic.

Over the years, Yiasho bonded with Daiereth, treating him as a cross between student and son - more student than son, but the bond was clear. As Daiereth reached the age of apprenticeship, it was a surprise to no one when Yiasho offered his services.

Yiasho knew that there was little left for either of them to learn in the guild, and so decided that Daiereth's apprenticeship would be in the world as it was. They quickly struck a deal with an explorer ship, "The Crimson Tide". They would join the crew in order to find and identify magic items in exchange for room, board and a small share of profits. The captain quickly agreed to the business proposition, and the pair travelled with the crew for many years.

6 years later, Yiasho passed away. After a sailor's funeral, Daiereth left the ship at Illesius Bank, seeking a new purpose. He had long ago been informed that his apprenticeship was over, and that he was ready to find his own destiny, but stayed with Yiasho out of respect and wishing to learn as much as he could from the old man.

With no such constraints, he spent a full year in Crownselle, seeking a challenge worthy of his attention. He frequents the various taverns and bars of the town, knowing that sometimes, the greatest adventures can begin with the dregs of society.

    Personality Traits
Young and energetic while decidedly calm and stoic in outward appearance, he struggles to maintain a calm peaceful core, while in his mind, he is exitable and often rash.

When there is a course of action he wants to take, he will spend a great deal of time rationalizing it in his mind so he can rationalize it to others.

He can talk to great lengths about anything he knows much about - and he knows much about much. He is always on the lookout for new information, but hates the fishermens yarns - tales often embellished beyond reason, to the point where very little information can be found.

Still, he is pleasant and calm to all he meets, even when faced with danger. When confronted by something extraordinary, he will often take a moment to observe it and the effect it has, take note in his mind, and utter only a simple "Hmm."

    background
Libitz was once a powerful leader under Thrul'zan, a militant orc warchief. He enjoyed the throngs of power - gold, food, even the disgusting substance known as 'wine'. He had the finest of it all. The goblins and orcs under his command were the elite fighters of Thrul'zan. That is, until the day he met the adventurers.

It started off as an ordinary raid on the town. Thrul'zan was continuing his reign of terror by raiding and pillaging small towns with no means to defend themselves. By fate, luck or some other strange fortune, the town Libitz and his men invaded had a means. A small band of adventurers had been staying in the town, just passing through. When the orcs and goblins ran into them, they were no match.

The adventurers had taken out most of Libitz's men, when one of them offered an olive branch. "Foul demon," the adventurer said, readying his weapon to strike, "lead us to your master and we shall let you free."

Libitz, always a smart and opportunistic goblin, knew a good deal when he heard it. He agreed and led the adventurers to Thrul'zan himself. No matter he thought, for the great Thrul'zan shall surely defeat these creatures.

Suffice it to say that Thrul'zan was not as great as he was famed, and fell to the adventurers. They stayed true to their word and released him to be free. With no where to go, he stayed with the adventurers. They began to treat him with respect as his skills in combat became more and more useful to them. More powerful than that, was his inspirational presence. He could rally his new friends with just a few words.
if chosen, we can make a choice. either the party as it is is the party in the story, or if we decide to roleplay the meeting of the party, he could eventually leave and seek his own new group.

    mannerisms etc.
Standing only 3'4", and weighing only 40lbs, Libitz does not seem threatening at first. But when enemies face his whip and scourge, they soon know the dangers hiddin in this small goblin.

He can be a bit abrupt, but it is mostly due to his goblin nature. He is trying to overcome his old life, for this new life has more joy about it. There is something about the respect that he recieves from his peers that is more enjoyable than anything Thrul'zan or any warcheif before him could never give.

He longs to prove himself and gain the respect of most people he meets. With that end, he is becoming good at reading people. What they want, what they need; he is getting good at convincing them to his goals and beliefs. Still, he may resort to intimidation, but that is usually when diplomatic doors close.

i would be happy playing either of these guys. also, my vote for 'formed group/strangers' depends on the character selection. if Diareth, i would say strangers, if Libitz, formed group flows easier for me.

Scar was used to the stares. Here on the road was no different.

Merchants pass by, stare, and hold their young ones close. Scar doesn’t care though he isn’t out to make friends. He is out to find battle, glory, and maybe some coin on the side.

He heard there is a Duke, hmm duke must have some good coin on him, that needs some bandits taken care of. Well, Scar and his axe would be more than happy to take care of them.

    Scar Blackhorns – Minotaur Barbarian

    Background:
Scar was born in the desert to a mother who died only days later. His tribe did not take kindly to orphans but he was able to take of himself early on and managed to stay with the tribe for most of his childhood. He got his name when during the night his tribe was set upon by a group of Gnolls out for blood. Scar was only 5 years old at the time but he took down three Gnolls by himself and took only one injury, a large gash over his right eye.

    Personality:
Scar cares little for civilized life. He likes living outdoors, but will speak with civilized folk when it means he can get a job as a sell-sword or mercenary. Quick to trust others Scar can be as cuddly as a calf, but you cross Scar or betray him and he will stop at nothing to take your head. Mess with the bull and you get the horns seems to be his life motto.

    Appearance:
Standing 7’2” Scar is an intimidating presence. His fur is a light tan color with light brown eyes. He has a large puckered scar running over his right eye. Scar wears patchwork armor he has fashioned out of Gnoll hide. Hefted onto one shoulder Scar carries a large executioners axe he calls ‘Dorris’.
I couldn't resist submitting this guy.
I guess I should say I am in another game... or like 4 but who is counting.

I can post the Melee version if I am chosen and we need another melee-er,
    Theren Valis, Elven Ranger
    Background
Living with his kin in a solitary forest grew weary for Therin, a youth who was stricken with wanderlust early on. Setting out before he was 30, Therin has travelled for more than 70 years, and taken the time to memorize the layout of the land. Eventually, he found a place for him to set up his own home, though he continually travels away from it to seek out the towns that he has come to love visiting every so often.

Theren's travels have brought him back to Crownselle, where he has taken up temporary lodgings, working as a guide around the village, and spending time looking for anyone who would wish to employ him.

    Personality
From helping both commoners and noblefolk through forest for his whole life, Theren's composure is rarely shaken, even in the heat of battle, and he never tires of aiding those that he has pledged his help to. Not exactly a man of few words, Theren does not speak about what he doesn't know about, sticking to the topics that he knows for sure and falling silent, only to respond, when things drift out of "his territory".

    Appearance
Deep green hair and golden eyes, Theren's dyed clothing gives him incredible camouflage in the forest. Standing medium height for an elf, and with a lean build that lends itself to a life of sneaking, climbing, and watching, Theren looks the typical part of what people think of when they think of his kin. His faces features are softer than many of his brethren, with a small smile on his lips as if he knows the punchline to a joke that only he heard, though he rarely laughs, preferring to express his amusement with a silent, slightly larger smile.

(I am in a game, but as I didnt get to play the ranger character, Ill throw him in here wish me luck :P)

    Rough character Picture (From google)
    elven_archer.jpg

    Personality
Athlar was an explorer since as young as he could remember, running through the trees of his People's forest finding new delights as he Ranged further and further from his home. His curiosity was mostly attributed to his fey nature, he would always try new things, whether it be food or drink from the traders that his town received or new techniques with his bow. He is always changing, bettering himself if he can... trying to brush off the complacent nature of the other Long living races.

Ok, Avenger, using the handy dandy 4e character generator. It's a damn nice program.

    Ansis, Deva Avenger

    Background:
Ansis knows not who he is now. He remembers fighting, dying. He's not sure with who, but he remembers a clash of swords and a spray of red. He still lives now, though he cannot remember why. He knows Erathis is with him, because he is still armed with the sword from his dreams, or memories. The only thing Ansis can remember is Erathis calling him to do her bidding, to roam the world and help bring light to the darkness. It is his single purpose, and he is dedicated to it entirely.

    Personality
Ansis is incredibly stoic and single minded. He isn't quiet, but he tends to have a lack of humor and approach any situation with his longsword, trusting his god to protect him.

    Appearance:
Ansis is tall and fairly human looking for a Deva. He has extremely short hair and pale skin that almost gives a hint of blue, though his face is usually hidden in a slight shadow from his hood.

    Aeronwy Falassion, Eladrin Fighter

"I met a traveller from a Feywild knoll
Who said: "Two vast armies, dead and weathered,
Rest in a gulch. Next to an Eladrin skull,
Half sunk, a shattered axe lies, whose cracks
And broken edge and steel of cold command

Which yet survive, stamped on this lifeless thing,
The axe that pushed them and the Eladrin that screamed.
And on the axe these words appear:
'My name is Aeronwy, General of Generals:
Look on my men, ye mighty, and despair!'
    Nothing beside remains."

    - Excerpt from the introduction to 'Aeronwy, and the Tactics of Insanity' by Professor Trahearn Meliamne.

    Appearance, Personality, Back/Foreground:
"Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen of the university. I am Professor Trahearn Meliamne, and I've been asked to present a lecture on the life and times of General Aeronwy Falassion. I'm sure that, as fellow Eladrin, you have doubtless heard tale of Aeronwy's tactical mindset, his bravery in battle, and how he lost his life at the Battle of Feyblood Gulch. You may have also heard of how he is the only general in Eladrin history to have been diagnosed as being completely insane. Also, that Feyblood Gulch used to be known as Greenwild Valley."

The professor coughed and rustled through the pages of his presentation.

"In fairness to those now-deceased ghaeles who promoted Aeronwy to the rank of general, he was an incredible warrior, and by all appearances was a fine, handsome young Eladrin. Long locks of blonde hair, sharp features, the rare broad-shouldered stature that is usually indicitive of a destined soldier. Though some did notice some odd qualities about him. To quote the journal of Ghaele Leshanna - 'Though he was a strong, attractive warrior, there was something in his frost-blue eyes that was... lacking. As though he was not truly seeing everything that the rest of us can - an absent vision of the world, without common knowledge to apply.'

"The records seem to indicate that there were two sides to the young Aeronwy. In battle, he was as fierce and deadly as any person could hope to be. Cutting through flesh and bone with his greataxe without the discipline and restraint that most Eladrin have drilled into them early. There are journals from his men that suggest that his presence on the battlefield was like that of a daemonic banshee, spewing curses and hatred onto every man or beast that stood in his way.

"However, when not in battle, he was almost demure in his interactions. It took him longer than most to notice changes to a room, or understand a subtle joke. Nor was he the kind of fellow you would send to a diplomatic meeting - while handsome when not speaking, his conversations were often littered with curse words and nonsensical advice. Take, for example, the words he shouted at Ghaele Arannis when the latter suggested they should go into the library for coffee - 'I will tear out your intestines and use them to wipe my fish, you apple-based pastry.' Or even his infamous battlecry of 'I eat bones and shit ghosts'. He was also a reasonably heavy drinker of wine - a fact that may have slowed peoples realisation that he was entirely insane.

"Unfortunately, not much is known about the early days of Aeronwy Falassion. After the disasterous last stand at Feyblood Gulch, his entire family fled their homes, fearing they would face the ire of the families of those needlessly killed. What little we do know is as follows. He was born to the captain of a ghaele's personal guard, and trained in an early age to be a warrior. He was a physical and absent-minded child at school, unable to keep up with other students, but surprisingly talented at inventing wild stories. As soon as he was finished with his basic education, he joined the soldiery, and was promoted quickly after displaying incredible martial prowess.

"When he was at the age of 113, he left his home and began wandering the mortal realms - for what reason, we may never know. But it is after this point that the historical record opens up, and we can see the path that led the future General Aeronwy to his fame, power, and bloody demise.

"Now, if you would all like to look at the first handout, with the heading 'Beginnings at Crownselle', I'd like to tell you about Aeronwy's very first adventuring party..."

    Morrigan Sakon, Human Cleric

    morriganL.jpg

"And as we enter the world
    Bald-headed and wired to live,
    Like the moth that tries
    To enter the bright eye,
So we go shuffling out of life
Just to rest in death awhile."

    - From the Tenants and Rites of the Raven Queen

    Background
"It all began when my parents grabbed me from my bed and threw me into the cellar that was hidden beneath our house. My mother stayed with me, but my father stayed outside. I think I was still too shaken by the event to cry at his disappearance. I regret that, sometimes. My mother told me that the village was being raided by followers of a demon god, and that they would kill us all on sight.

"My father was the town weaponsmith. He was born into this world innocently enough. He lived as a creator of the weapons of war, and like so many other man, he died upon the sword. Might I say, it seems so... fitting, in its way.

"I remember the smell of blood and death that floated in the air for days after the initial raid. My mother left the cellar after three days to check if the raiders had left. When I eventually ran out of food in that dark pit, I found her corpse strung up outside our house. They had cracked open her chest and spread the ribs like an angel's wings. It took me a while to realise that the noose was made of intestines - hers, I assume. They were absent from her own belly.

"From that point, my memory grows dim. I remember walking the abandoned streets of my town, becoming numb to every thing that I walked past. Everything smelt of death and decay. A ragged cloak fluttering on broken glass. A dog, its head missing, sprawled in the middle of a street. A single tooth on a cobblestone, with neither partner or jaw within sight. The first clear memory I have after those fateful days is finding myself with prayer beads in hand, counting the dead on them. I do not know where I found them, but they had the symbol of the Raven Queen emblazoned on the focus bead. I still carry them with me; a reminder of my heritage.

"At that moment, I felt myself awaken to the inevitability of it all. These people, my family and friends, had met their end, but... we all must face it, sometime. From then on, how could I be afraid to die?

"I buried all the people I could find, though it took far longer than I thought it would. Then I grabbed what few belongings I had, and a blade my father had forged - a bastard sword, he called it - and travelled until I found a temple of the Raven Queen. An orphan, I was adopted into the service of the Queen of Death as a cleric. My first act was to return to my home village and perform the proper rites of burial, to put their souls at peace.

"We are surrounded by death at all times. It may come in the form of a restless spirit, yearning to be released from here. It may come to us as hungry ghosts, angry and hateful at their premature release. It may come to us in the form of a widow, or an orphan, or any other myriad of way that we mortals shuffle off this mortal coil. But it is there, and I am all too aware of it, as a devotee of death.

"I am sure in the next realm, the dead rest easy and watch as the history of the world unfurls before them. It must be a peaceful existence. But down in this mortal realm, life is built on steel and blood. But my faith is a righteous fire that will purge the evil from this realm - and for all of us, death is never far away.

"And I am not afraid to die."

    Appearance:
Perhaps the first thing you notice about Morrigan is her eyes - large and hazel, they have a cold emptiness coming from them that reveal that she has seen too much. Her pale blonde hair comes to a stop below her shoulders, but the notable part is that there is hardly any difference between her hair colour and skin tone. Indeed, aside from a slight yellowness, her pallid complexion could just be an extension of her hair. Gaunt facial features and a skinny build do nothing to remove the impression that she is a walking aspect of the death goddess. A constant clacking of wood on wood comes from near her hand, though this is nothing sinister - she simply uses her holy symbol, a string of prayer beads, to assist in the counting of dead in battle, and what stage of the funerary rites she is up to.

    Personality:
Cold and calculating, Morrigan approaches everything from the standpoint of inevitability. She tries to read people as soon as she meets them, to gain an insight into their heart of hearts, which she could use to her advantage. Even in battle, she tries to calculate the odds, find which opponent deserves to be the next to move on from this realm. Though she is not afraid of death - indeed, she embraces it in every aspect of her life - she does not wish to die having wasted her life on foolish things. For everything all of us have time and a purpose under the Raven Queen's eye, and it is up to the individual person to meet their time with satisfaction behind them.

Oops, completely missed the fact that there was a defender already...guess my guy's out. I might roll up something different but I'm generally a paladin guy through and through. We'll see.

Good luck and have fun anyway if I don't get in!

Actually, Protector Shaman is a Leader, not a Defender.

    Aaand, speaking of:

    Leader spot is now open!!

So, if anyone wants to throw up a leader, we could use one now!

No. Leader spot is open because the person who was supposed to be playing the Shaman now can't. So the full 5 spots are available now.

Hey, I am interested. I have a couple of questions and a comment.

First, can we pick a FR player's guide background? - I am not sure if that is what you were implying by PHB2 backgrounds.

Next... well, I guess I will just post the sheets and you can tell me if the drow race would be out of place in the party. One character is drow.

Lastly, it might be easier for you if the characters have a good reason to stick together, like at least some of them knowing each other. I am running an (in person) game at the moment that is having serious issues with party cohesion because their characters have intricate backgrounds and motivations... and whether or not they want to follow the quest hooks, they aren't sure they want to do it together. For now, they are at the 'may as well stick together' part, but if I don't manage to hook each one for every step, I am afraid the group will dissolve. I figure this will resolve itself by the end of heroic tier, but... it's pretty nervewracking at the moment, since I am very concerned with making the campaign progression very organic and not forced.

    My characters:

I'm equally happy playing either based on what you need. I will be away (and only able to post in the evenings) until Thursday, April 9. I can satisfy your requirements for starting Monday, if it is OK for me to post in the evenings.

    #1: Sothal, striker.

Drow Sorcerer (striker) with a lot of rage but a lot of patience.

    #2: Tanthal, controller.

Eladrin Wizard (controller) with a good soul. Somewhat scarred from time in the military, dabbles in the lute to sooth his demons.

    Sothal Appearance:
Sothal is a male Drow. About 5'10", he is slender but very lithe, but not particularly muscular. He has lightly glowing red eyes (typical of his race) when it is dark, that are more of a milky color when seen in the light. He has silvery-white hair, dulled significantly from its natural luster by exposure to the sun. His back and arms are covered with scars from the scourges of Lolth's (or other deity for this world) priestesses, forming shiny black ridges across his otherwise smooth jet black skin. When completely, uncontrollably enraged, his skin is suffused with a barely perceptible glow of angry red light. Barely perceptible in dusky conditions, it is almost impossible to see in more well lit settings. This is rare, however... he has a high degree of self control and the constantly smoldering rage in his soul is tempered by a cold, fastidious patience. He wears a copper ring on his left little finger, forged forged to contain several strands of the hair of his beloved sister, Thea.

    Sothal Background:
Sothal was a male born to servitude in a lower house in Ahenizonan, but his heart was never in the right place for his setting. It must have somehow run in his family: his eldest brother was brave but kindhearted - weak, they called him - and his only sister also had a gentle soul. He was forced to watch his brother butchered by his father, in an attempt to appease the priestesses... and to teach him a lesson about his behavior. He learned a lesson indeed, but that was only that good acting was key to his survival. He acted hard-hearted and earned favor, until as he turned 20, he took his only chance and absconded with his baby sister. He lived by his wits, providing for himself and his sibling, surviving mainly by luck in their mercifully brief stay in the underdark. He stumbled upon ancient and abandoned dwarven mining caverns, and stealthily made his way to the surface. Learning to scavenge in sunlit forests nearly cost them their lives yet again, but, half-starved and desperate, they made it into the back alleys of (city) by night. In a big, jaded city like this one, a drow thief in the back alleys was little more than a curiosity. He certainly wasn't the first drow to make good an escape to the surface, and though he was met with distrust and hostility by more reputable people than him - that is to say, everyone - at least half of that was due to the fact that he stunk, and tended to be stealing from the people he met. Sothal had always been a little different - preternaturally quick or having uncanny force behind his blows - but he never had any inkling he was special. That is until a few years ago, when he returned to the alleyway corner he and his sister had been hiding in for a few weeks. He found smears of blood and tufts of torn silver hair, but no sign of his sister. He flew into a rage: unnatural thunder accompanied his stride, and bursts of raw energy crackled with his words - he was too blinded by fury to wonder at himself, but terrified slummers quickly pointed him toward a slaver gang, and then went and called the watch. Sothal murdered several gangers, using the very air as his butcher's knife and block. The aftermath looked like what the guards could only imagine as hell. Scorched corpses and coagulated blood, running in rivulets down the walls or jutting up in gory stalagmites from the ground. In the end, it was for nothing. Sothal only found that his sister had been already put on a slaver ship with a false name of the Maybelle, and she was long gone. For months, the city went back to normal, and Sothal disappeared. Then, certain of the viler members of society started disappearing in rather gory way, which suggested rather unpleasant ends. The cycle accelerated over the course of a year and more but was largely ignored by the authorities, who were not (in practice) against some homegrown vigilante work.

Suddenly, the murders stopped. Rumors abounded that the drow, The Reaper of (City), had been killed, had found peace, or had even found a god. The truth was simpler: he had found a clue... and he was moving to act on it. Not knowing whether his sister was alive or dead, but knowing one simple fact, Sothal slipped into the wilderness of the night.

Sothal is haunted by the hideous crimes he committed in the city, but in his heart he feels that he was right - he was killing evil men to protect the innocent, and the life of his sibling he weighs as for more valuable than the lives of the dockside scum he butchered.

DM can provide the city and the fact.

    Tanthal appearance:
Tanthal is a male Eladrin, about 5'11", in shape but skinny. He has pale blond hair and green eyes. His skin is tan, even weathered for an elf, by long days in the sun when he was in the military. His left side is covered in burn scars, starting at chest level and ending past his ankle, a result from a terrible fight which ended his military career. This robbed him of some of his natural dexterity, which used to be extraordinary and is now merely good. The only normally visible portion of these scars are on his hand, pocked skin lining his two middle fingers. His face has a haughty cast when he is serious, but it is normally broken by a thoughtful expression or a smile.

    Tanthal background:
Tanthal was born to a well-off pair of Eladrin living in a human city. He was treated cruelly by children his age (as children are likely to do to those who are different), and so he took to reading alone. His parents had quite an extensive library, and he discovered he had a passion for learning. History, politics, the arcane... he absorbed the information like a sponge. He was accepted on merit to the Arcanist's Academy (or similar), and received a scholarly education, as well as training in the arts, and instruction in how to bend the arcane threads of life to his will. Again, he had a natural aptitude for both the arts and the Art, and chose the way of the wizard over that of musician or barrister. Upon completion of his formal training, he felt that he had a debt to pay to his benefactors, so he joined the (regiment name) as the regimental mage.

Tanthal was part of several actions and formed fast friendships with the leadership of his section. As a mage, he reported to the captain and his lieutenants but was somewhat outside the normal rank structure, which allowed for easy fraternization with the officers. One dusky morning, his detachment caught up with what was thought to be a small organization of bandits who had been hounding the roadways through the forests to the west of the city. The truth, however, turned out to be much darker.

As they moved in to ambush the 'bandits', the ground broke apart beneath their feet, and foul abominations rose from the dirt. As men were torn limb from limb, a black robed figure with sunken eyes and broken, oozing skin strode into the melee. Tanthal desperately struck out with raining blows of force, but the creature regarded him, unfazed, and leered. Purple-black flames poured from its gaping mouth, drooling out onto the ground, and racing across the ground toward the broken survivors. Tanthal attempted to twist away, but the oily flames still clutched at his skin, and he descended into the maddening blackness of sickening pain.

Tanthal, alone out of over 100 men, was found as a survivor amidst a sea of corpses. Inexplicably, the cult had moved on immediately following the engagement, leaving Tanthal in a trancelike state, attempting to cope with his horrific injury.

To try to manage the pain, which was horrible and seemingly unending, and irreparable by clerical healing - a gift of the dark magic - he took up playing the lute, and instrument he had shown great aptitude for in scholam. His now clumsy left hand struggled to keep up with his previous skill, but he improved. He began with learning regimental ballads and laments, and then started obsessively studying songs of pain and comrades lost. There was no denying it, he was good. And he began, almost by accident, weaving his words with light magic. Patients from other wards started coming to hear him, and it was a sad day in the hospital when he was discharged.

As it stands now, his scars are as healed as they are going to get, and the pain is almost gone most of the time. Over time, Tanthal built up a sense of blame for himself not being faster or stronger and saving his comrades... so upon discharge, he set off on the road. In a sort of self-exile, he has decided he will travel and seek to atone for his failings. He is eager to please, and pained to play... but every evening whether he is alone or with company, he will break out his lute and play a sad song for his lost friends.

    _____

The inn was empty, except for the innkeeper, his serving girl, a gruff man deep into the flagon, and the scarred elf-minstrel lounging by the hearth. The innkeeper was still and silent with a rag and mug in his hands. The girl was sitting on the floor, staring with red rimmed eyes, and the drunk was quietly sobbing. As the last ghostly notes died in the still air, the innkeeper took a sudden deep breath, and began cleaning the mug again. The girl slowly stood and whispered, "That was so sad... but so beautiful. I could listen to that all night, but I think my heart would break."
The eladrin smiled gently, carefully packing away his lute. "It was no more beautiful than my inspiration, " he said, inclining his head to her, paying the meaningless compliment.
It struck the right chord with her, as she almost gasped as she whispered, "What is your name?"
He regarded her with a gentle expression, and finished wrapping up the instrument.
He stood fully and sighed, "My name is Tanthal."
She looked into his eyes and stepped closer to him. Dangerously close - she was attractive, in her rough, human way, but he was not here for that. Not anymore. He let his face fall into an impassive mien. He could smell her perfume, coarse in his nostrils. She moved her face closer to his, but he brought up his unscarred hand, and laid it gently across her lips, restraining her more with force of will than with his feather-light touch. He had to leave, to keep moving.
"I am named Tanthal... but I am just a ghost."
He took his hand away, and slipped quietly out the door. The inn was left silent and darkened.

Out in the night, a cloaked figure strode softly into the forest.

Since we can post multiples, here is a peculiar Warforged Warlord named Buzz

    http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=118164

    Little story about him
"Your name is Coffee ? LIke the drink ?" said the man with the funny clothes and the quirky hat.
"It is, or at least it has been for a long time now" answered the large construct "I like your hat."
"Thanks, how did you ever get a name like that ? The people who built you thought they were funny ?"
"It is a rather long story"
"I have all the time in the world. Do you want a beer ?"
"I do not require nourishment or drink, nor do I possess taste buds and intoxication, while possible, is unlikely"
"Well. Then. You talk, I'll drink."
"For years, probably centuries actually, I was the official coffee maker for the Duchy of Esgard, it was a remote place, on a plateau, not very populous, but there was a fine manor house... Anyway, I can't recall how I ended up there but from what I was told, when they found and asked for my name, I would invariably answer "Co...Fee". The Duke of the time time took that to mean that either Coffee was my name or that I cared about coffee. Coincidently, the Duke was also a coffee lover. So he assigned me to coffee making. As time went by, I made a better and better coffee, you see the secret is to distillate the water prior to brewing the coffee and to use only the best, fresh ground, beans. I built a greenhouse , in which I would grow different kind of coffee beans, eventually, gardeners were assigned to my project and for a long time, we made the best coffee and the best beans of the world. Travelers would come from afar just for a taste of my coffee. This encouraged trade and tourism, and the dukedom flowered. Dukes succeeded to other dukes but I remained. Alas, golden times always come to an end. Eventually, the dukedom was invaded by a rather large band of brigands. they pillaged, and they raped, and they set houses and shops on fire. When they came upon my greenhouses. I felt threatened, and my original "function" came back to me. A sword and shield came out of my body, and into my hands, and I started to bark orders to the gardeners, with hoes and shovels and axes, we repelled the pillagers, killing many of them in the process. Then we proceeded to town and killed more and more of them, until we could not find any. Of course, gardeners were killed, and got replaced by peasants and shopkeepers, a few off-duty soldiers and such. But all these efforts to no avail. The Duke and his whole family killed, the town burnt to the ground, the forest on fire. There was nothing we could do.

The renewal of my function also brought back fragmented memories, memories of my kind, others like me, yet different. Bits and pieces of battles, marches and slaughters. So I set out in the world again, in search of other Warforged. I can't say how long I searched, could be years, could be decades, I think it was less than a century but really, time is a bit vague to me. Eventually, I found a group of Warforged, they even had a creation forge, to make more like them. I explained to them the troubles I had, with my memory, and with the strange ideas that came to me sometimes. They did what they could. Apparently I was an ancient kind of Warforged and they couldn't restore my whole memory, but they stabilized my memories and restored my earliest memories. apparently my designation was Cobalt Battalion Unit Phi. I can't really remember actual battles, like other Phi units, I know about tactics, and the flow of battle. I also have a rudimentary training with weapons.

I couldn't stay with the Warforged, their ways were alien to mine, my thinking was not as their thinking. So I left. To roam the world. Search for a purpose. Stuff like that. And here I am. Can I buy your hat ?"

"Huh sure. I'll sell it to you for a silver piece... That was an interesting story, but why keep an abbreviated version of a designation as your name ? Can't you think up a better one ?"

"You are right. I think I will go back to a name I had, once upon a time, when I was traveling with a group. We were doing something, something having to do with... vampires.
From now on I shall call myself and be called : Buzz."

"Eeehhh. I'm not sure this is really any better..."
