yes sorry, I've been doing uni work, and the forums stopped loading for me as well for a short while, i'll update the thread now though I think we still need about 13 players...
Edit: Although once I had accused somebody here of hacking, when it just turned out he was really good at estimating where I was based on a glimpse he caught of me earlier. I saw his little sniper bead tracing me and I was like, "WTF!?"
Love doing this. I'm getting better at it recently too. Watching spies fall out of mid-air never gets old. Especially if it's a headshot

I've noscoped a fully cloaked spy.
That's the highlight of my sniping career.
After getting headshot while fully cloaked, I think I stopped playing spy for about 2 months.
Wait, i think it might have been Flippy who shot me.
Cloaked spies - crack
Charged medics - smack
Point-blank scouts - ecstasy
Pyros with a one-two before they can reach me - heroin
Other snipers - cannabis
Demomen just before they sticky jump, making them blow themselves up - amphetamines
Regarding snipers, is there a general thing I should do to solve something? Ive got a habit of instinctively correcting myself when I shoot, like I have my shot lined up perefctly and right before I fire I move my hand a little because I think its off even though its dead center on their head. Ive played shooters since I was a kid, and usually have never had a problem lining up shots in any form of a sniper rifle (im no pro, but I could keep a 1:1 k/d ration usually), however TF2 has screwed me over. Lately I am lucky if I even manage to hit them, let alone in the head and it is agrevating me beyond belief. Should I just stick with aiming for their body first, then move to head once im comfortable with hitting the body or what? I dare not try to duel another sniper, I lose eveytime.
On the plus side I am getting better at spy lately, im happy with a 1:3 k/d ration if most kills are backstabs. Im in heaven if I manage to keep 1:1.

Does that make headshotting heavies the second before their medic pops the ubercharge leaving him to run around with nothing to do yet totally invincible, does that make that something like substance D from a scanner darkly. upon which 20% of the population is addicted?

All of these things will usually make me laugh pretty heartily. Especially shooting demomen/soldiers before they jump so they explode. Or shooting someone in mid-air so they die from fall damage. I think both of those will be achievements.

You have to find a sniping method that suits you comfortably. Nearly everyone does it differently afaik, I tend to aim for the body and then snap up to the head for the shot, but that's just me
I slowly move around aiming, wait till an enemy comes into my sight, line up the perfect shot. SHOOT. and then sigh because by then the enemy has moved out of my sights again.

What I've found while watching snipers and what I'm trying to do more with is just taking the shot. It may hit, it may not. But just take the shot anyway.
Cause I also like the charge my shots and wait for the perfect one to come along, and then I'm just wasting time.
I'm always most successful at sniping when I stay no scoped to line up the shot then scope and shoot in one fluid motion. If I have to follow my target while scoped for more than a second or two I seem to always miss, I guess I over think the shot or something.

1 - Don't edge around corners fully scoped if there's another sniper out there. You will probably lose.
2 - Snap headshots are what you should be doing 80% of the time.
3 - Aim without scope, then in one go, zoom in, snap to the head, and shoot.
4 - Remember to keep moving. A stationary sniper is a dead sniper.

if you havin spy problems I feel bad for you, son
i got ninty-nine problems but also this fucking flamethrower
I actually really dislike playing sniper in TF2, and I can't figure out why. I'm not great at it, but I'm by no means terrible at it. It's by far my least played class though. I think I just find the levels in TF2 are too small to make sniping fun for me.
Edit: and whenever I try playing sniper I spend a lot less time trying to pick people off and way too much time dueling other snipers.

I prefer headshotting soldiers and demos right as they launch, so I can watch their limp ragdoll fly through the air. That makes me giddy every time.
Surely moving all of the time as a sniper just reveals your position much more. Humans can detect movement far easier than shape. Staying hidden and waiting for that one shot one kill is probably better than strafing all over the place to avoid sniper duels. Sniper duels anyways are useless because neither contributes much to the team when they're in one. Can't list the times I've seen a sniper far off in the distance scoped in and edging across the map sideways and you can do so much to counter them even at range. Half the classes can land ordinance near them, the other half have the capability to hide.
Though I guess if people are meatgrinding up a ramp and the sniper is picking them off over and over it is only them at fault. Snipers get one maybe two kills before you get them figured out and then it is dodge city the whole way. Ones that relocate and hide are more annoying.
Also headshotting people in mid-air, either killing them or rendering their previously mild reunification with the ground suddenly rather more worrisome.
@ Scarab: Honestly, whilst that's true, this game is specifically designed to make targets clear and plain. There isn't much cs_havana style stealth. Sniper duels are useful though - if their sniper is trying to shoot you, they are not trying to shoot anyone else. Sniper duels are just exercises in who gets the next uninterrupted chance to kill more enemy mans.
So yeah, movement is noticeable, but really, you're unlikely to be at significantly more risk.
Besides, I snipe from the front lines anyway, so I have to move.
I'm proud that with my recent foray into Soldier, I can pretty much play any class pretty effectively now. My best might not even be Pyro anymore, I find myself playing it very little now. Mostly Heavy, Demo, and Sniper.
My worst class is probably Engineer, since I suck at placing sentries when the main spots are taken up already.

see this? this is why I will always kill a sniper. I will go out of my way to kill them. I am going to end my self imposed hiatus just so I can shovel flippy again.

I slightly disagree with this, but can't really put my strategy into words. I scope and charge when I know a target is slow enough that I still can hit him with more charge, and against snipers, I let it automatically re-scope and I just have the timing down so I run away and back in at exactly the right time, and I know where the enemy is from peripheral vision so that I can snap-shoot him... that doesn't make much sense, I know, but sniping for me is more like feeling what I'm doing, not thinking about it.
And as for snap headshots, I couldn't agree more. If you see a target in the corner of your scope, practice and practice until it becomes natural to know the thought "I whip my mouse this far across the table to get my crosshairs this far across the viewing field. This is completely necessary for when you want to hide your sniper dot from the other team, and when your enemy knows you're there, among other times, etc. blah blah.

Tihs is one of my favourite things to do, shoot them in the foot just before they shoot off, fantastic

I hope the people I have portrayed in my OP don't get mad and hit me.
What do you think my suffix stands for?
Flippy's general rules of sniping for new snipers
1 - Don't edge around corners fully scoped if there's another sniper out there. You will probably lose.
2 - Snap headshots are what you should be doing 80% of the time.
3 - Aim without scope, then in one go, zoom in, snap to the head, and shoot.
