Dedicated Phone Recorder

Ok, here's the deal, I have an old computer that I want to turn into a phone recorder. I want it to record all of my calls, and I want to be able to grab and tranfer the audio files from that computer to my main computer on the network. I have windwos XP Media Center edition on my main PC, but would like that to have a free O/S, so I think I'm talking about learning linux.
But- is there linux software that does this for free? What do I need to do? (I have an old voice modem, but realize I may need to get a newer one if there are no drivers for linux).
OH- and, I've resolved all legal/moral questions for this already.

You could probably do this with Asterisk. How easy that is, I dunno.

My brother had a good setup for this (for anti-telemarketing purposes) where he had a phone cord > 3.5mm mic jack adapter and would record calls to a little hand held voice recorder that saved audio files in flash memory, which can be downloaded via USB or SD card or something.

Now he has a full-blown phone system which lets him push a button on his phone to record a call anytime after answering it and automatically save to mp3. :D

I use a simple setup when I conduct phone interviews.

You want a telerecorder and a computer (or recording device, like a digital voice recorder).

    - Plug the telerecorder into the wall jack.
    - Plus the 3.5mm end of the telecorder into your computer's mic port (or the mic port of a recording device)

When you want to record a call, hit "record" on whatever software (or device) you're using. Save format depends on what you're using to record. If you're using your computer, grab Audacity and save as MP3 after each call.

If you want a phone off the same jack as well, just put a splitter between the wall jack and the telerecorder.
