For some reason I only like getting games on Steam, and I'm reluctant to try other digital download services. I just like having that list of all the games right there in front of me. If I used another service, I'd have another list. Who wants two lists when you can have one list?
Much cheaper games? Saving moneys?
Gamers Gate is even client-free, you just install games like any other game, as in GoG.
But that's the thing. I like the client. I prefer having a client.
It's almost like they are stores, and they happen to compete which each other!
Does my post really come off that 'hur dur' retarded, like I'm oblivious to the idea of competition? I'm just saying I've saved money by checking out Gamersgate before I make a Steam purchase, is all.
Well, I guess in theory it isn't. I came off as a little harsh, but unless people don't know about Gamersgate(which they might not) they can probably assume they can save money sometimes.
My post wasn't "Hey you can save money, kids, because stores are competing and stuff!"
It was, "Hey, I'm finding that games tend to be cheaper on Gamers Gate right now, so check it out."
Christ man, if you're looking for lumber, and someone suggests a place down the block that sells it cheaper than "Hanks Lumber Yard" across town, you wouldn't give them some condescending remark like "Hur Hur you understand the nature of capitalism, nice job!" would you?

You like it enough to pay 20 bucks more for the same game?

Nope, but I like it enough to just not get the game and wait. And hope.
Steam brings me more peace of mind than any other digital distribution service. However, I use whatever's cheapest typically...but I will pay a few bucks extra if I can get it on Steam.
Direct2Drive has been by far the worst experience I've had, while Steam is by far the best. Gamers gate is great, but it doesn't offer the sort of 'cloud-coverage/install anywhere anytime as long as you have your account' that Steam offers, and it's sometimes frustrating to get download speeds of 150kb/s from the European mirrors when you're downloading a massive game.

Well, I have to say I feel a little silly. I misinterpeted your first post to mean,"Hey guys some games are cheaper at Gamersgate", rather then "Hey guys, check out these cheap games at Gamersgate".
Whoopsie!
In other news, I bought Deus Ex totally on your guy's opinions. It better be good!
Has Mass Effect ever been a weekend deal? Any chance it will be (again)?
$20 isn't bad but I already own it on 360. I want to try it on PC though to see what the controls/interface are like, so I'll know which platform to get ME2 on. And there's no demo. I'd rebuy it for $10, but no more than that.
I heard the inventory was improved on the PC version.
Which only makes me wonder how unspeakably horrific it must have been on the 360 if that was what they deemed an "improvement."
It wasn't improved in the slightest. Having to click about 600 times (not hyperbole, you have to select the item, click delete, and then click to ok the action) to delete your unwanted items because of a full inventory is a Sisyphean labor that should have been changed.

It was vastly improved. On the console you can't even order your squadmates to move anywhere.

Uh.
That's the combat interface. He's talking about the inventory interface. Which is terrible.
But you can at least use a mouse on the inventory, right? If it was as bad as the 360 you'd be using the arrow keys to scroll one by one to the bottom of your inventory list to gel an item, each and every time you wanted to do so. If you can scroll with a mouse it's immediately a better interface.

Oi! someone get with the HL2 single player recommending!
Can't go wrong with all of them.
There's not much that can be said about the series that hasn't already been said by now. Most developers struggle just to keep up with Half-Life 2, and Valve keep improving the formula with each new release.
Eesh, Penumbra Requiem is an oddity. You know when a game later in a series gets mediocre reviews, but the reviewer says, well, it's not great, but if you loved the first two you should check it out.
Well Requiem is like the exact opposite. If you loved the first two, you probably should stay away.
On Vista, CoC is unbeatable. There's a part where you have to use a mounted gun to take out some dudes standing on a cliff in the distance, but for some reason you can't zoom with it on Vista, which make them essentially impossible to take out before they kill you.
The only way to progress is to download a save file that takes place after this event. The unofficial patch doesn't fix it.
And not only that, there's that fun little ending sequence. You know, the one where the margin of success and failure is literally milliseconds. I wasn't able to beat the game at all.
I have heard people say bad things about the PC port, and it isn't all that great on the consoles.
Edit: I certainly wouldn't say it is a bad game, but a lot of things about it are bad. It is mechanically sound, for the most part, but there's not a whole lot interesting about it.

The combat controls are vastly improved from the 360, while the inventory is still horribly console-y. Hopefully they'll fix that for ME2.

Gigantic man-eating worm chasing after me. I will not be sleeping much tonight.
That is all.

they are already all used.
Joy!
You haven't played it before?

Get you some fixes. Being based on the UT engine, it's got some occasional issues with multi-core, processors that speed-throttle, and other bits.
Oh, and fancy new renderers.
Can trade TF2 items or whatever else you're interested in. PM me.
LewieP sounds like a minor plot point in Planescape: Torment! The solution to that puzzle was obtuse if you got bored in the museum.
Two of the very few best games ever together in the same post.
What a beautiful moment.
Not that I know of. You can dl your games as many times as you want, or burn the install files to a DVD or something.
Wait, what?
Steam profile.
Getting started with BATTLETECH: Part 1 / Part 2
Here.
Apparently there's even a high resolution patch! Although I have to say that I can't play FPSs without the mouselook so...
But it's still a blast.

I think it's a generic 3rd person RTS with a glaive. I don't see how Crackdown factors in to it.
