I've been looking into capturing video from my HDTV but am not sure how to go about it.
Basically... I have an HDTV that I run my PC, Game systems, and Cable TV through. The PC and game systems are hooked up through HDMI. I want to be able to record HD video from my 360/PS3/Wii but it seems like I would be forced to run AV/S-video cables from my systems to a capture box, then back to my TV to do that, thus disconnecting them from HDMI and going with AV/S-video for the hook ups.
it doesn't even seem to have any signal out ports on it so I'm curious if I would even be able to do it with this TV. If not, thats fine. I'm just trying to figure out if it would be possible to stream or record HD video from my game systems.
This guy seems to have done it with a HAVA Monsoon Platinum HD, but with component instead of HDMI. In general, I'd say that depending on the source you'd likely run into difficulty recording from an HDMI feed thanks to HDCP copy protection. Remember, the 360 can stream Netflix HD movies now, and you can bet they don't want people streaming those through some kind of capture box to turn their rental into a permanent digital download.
Yeah I see what you mean about the HD recording thing.
Looks like my best bet would be to get some S-video cables, a video distribution box, a capture box, and hook ups for my systems and just run them to the video box, to my tv, back to the box, then to the capture box and to my PC or just buy the HAVA Platinum HD recorder and follow Geekedupinside's instructions and just hook them up when I want to capture videos.
