it was waaaaaay too short. but god damn it was amazing... orgasmic even. ok not really but it was really good. i noticed something though that kind of pisses me off. after you beat the game you cant go back into the real world (like the camp) and you dont really save a game after you beat the final bosses. is there a way around this? but still the game was amazing. if you've played it tell me what you think of it.
Was there some kind of special ending for collecting all the crap in that game?
Yes there was. If you got a 100% completion you got a special little bonus clip. You can find it on youtube though which for some strange reason is not loading for me... >_>;
.....WTF?? Someone would collect all those webs and such for a 1 minute clip?!
You don't know much about most collectathons do you? Guess what you got for getting all of the stars in Super Mario Sunshine.
What did you get for all the stars in Sunshine?
Well, there technically weren't stars, but I forgot what they were called.
In a short answer-- Nothing. I've beaten the game with all the Shines
and this is all I've noticed: First of all, on the game load/select
screen, above the block with the file letter on it, there's a picture
of one of those little red suns that looks like it was drawn with a
crayon, indicating that you've collected 120 Shines. Other than that,
the only thing I've noticed is the townspeople talk differently. One
says "Could this be the end of the game?" "I hope something else
happens." I'm not sure if that means there's more secret stuff to do or
what that means, but everything else is the same as when you beat the
game normally, as far as I can tell. Oh, and one really stupid thing
to take note of is that a big group of people & kids by the river are
still saying things like "Save Princess Peach!" and "I hope nothing bad
happened to her!" That's pretty lame. Also, when you beat the game with all
the Shines the ending movie/sequence is still exactly the same although
many people seem to think it's changed. The only difference is at the very
end it says "You have collected all the Shines! Would you like to save your
game?"
Despite hating collectathons I loved this game to death and didn't mine collecting this at all for some reason. Man I never get tired of the milkman level.

God, that would have pissed me off so much. I guess it's not the destination, but the journey. Or something...

It's called 'the point of no return' for a reason buddy
Still though, i might rebuy Psychonauts for PC via steam, especially if it's only $10. I have it for xbox and while it handled like a dream, I really don't want to ever have to plug that stupid thing in ever again.
I loved Psychonauts but loathed the collectathon aspect of it.
Yeah, I have to agree. The game would have had a much better structure had they just gotten rid of figments altogether - at the very least.
It's just a weird design decision, and it surely didn't help the game's sales.
(Yes, I got all of them, too )

It felt like: Oh hey here are 3 random levels to make the game longer! And I was all, "nah Im good"
Man no.
The Napoleon one was still pretty awesome, and so was the Spanish guy's one (at least in terms of atmosphere) The theatre one is pretty boring though, and the asylum jumping puzzle and FUCKING MEAT CIRCUS are, well, you know.

It's currently free on gametap, along with Tomb Raider: Legend, Just Cause, Second Sight, Darkstar One, Hitman: Codename 47 and Earthworm Jim.
Fucking loved this game, the story telling and overall design were so very witty. :^: I didn't really mind the Meat Circus, sure it was harder and more annoying than all other levels, but I've played harder games and at least Meat Circus was completable for me. Hopefully they're gonna make a part 2 with a slightly older Raz.
The water filling the room as you had to do awkward jumps towards the end drove me crazy. I don't think I've ever found anything ever, in games or otherwise, as challenging as that part, I thought I was going to break the controller in a fit of rage.
I eventually put the invinsibility cheat on, and it still took me ages to complete that part..
Anybody else have traumatising memories of that part?

That was indeed the most difficult platforming part of the game. It's still no where near as difficult as an average level in Ninja Gaiden or in the 2D games of yore.

oh dear god that part was a nightmare. it took me hours to finally get up the winding climbing walls. i would allways fall between the first and second. i didnt even realize i could use levitation until i had reached the flaming hoops. probably wouldnt have helped though. and Aldo you mentioned that your hoping for a part two? is there any signs of that happening? and is double fine still in busyness?
huh thats too bad. i mean a second game wouldnt bring in much money but i think if they made a sequel it would give allot of gamers a good opinion about them. do you know about any other games like this? or anything as wittty and original i mean theres no way theres something anything like this out there. actually do you know about any games that have a psychic main character? so you can use psychic abilities like in this game?

Games in which the main char has psychic powers aren't rare, it's games that are about mental illnesses that are rare. I mean, this game is basically a simple platformer, it's the story and insane design that make it special. I can't think of any titles.
The problem with Psychonauts was that everyone was raving on and on about it and everyone loved it, but hardly anyone actually bought it. You can't start a thread here about 'suggest me games' without at least someone mentioning Psychonauts, but it hardly netted Tim Schafer any money.

True, but then you have crazies like me that bought it multiple times. First for PS2 and then another copy for the Xbox (which I don't own). I also did this for The Bard's Tale because I am crazy.
I stopped during the theater level, and have never really had an itch to play it again since. It was a fantastic game until then, but it just completely lost my interest. The milkman level is probably one of the greatest levels in any game I've ever played.

The theater level is kinda meh (the plays are awesome though), but the game gets better after it.
yeah the theater level was a bit dull. but running around messing with people is kind of what helped me through it. what i think really drew me into this game is the powers. i asked this before but more spacificly what games have a main character with psychic abilities?

It seems that the theatre level is so late and such a change from the other levels that makes it kind of grating. I believe that the theatre level was the first one fully fleshed out, which may help to explain why people like it the least. Well except for the meat circus of course, but that's a given.
Anyone who has stopped at that level really needs to finish the game. It is very much worth it. Even more so if you did not play the Napolean or bull fighting levels.

The theater was probably my least favorite. Though the later area in that level is pretty cool.
I must be one of the only people who kind of liked the meat circus. Even though it was pretty cheap, I welcomed the challenge. And I thought the rising water room was fucking cool.
I have no idea why everybody whines about the Meat Circus. It might be just PC controls, since I played it on Xbox, but the rising water thing - well, it wasn't a first go type thing, but it wasn't as bad as everybody makes it out to be. Yeah, it's a difficulty spike, but only because you've been babied through pretty much the whole game so far.
No, if there's anything to legitimately whine about, it's the frickin' confusion rats. Goddamn confusion rats!
TBH I'm not so sure I loved the game aspect (Although the fact that it was a solid platformer certainly helped) as it was that I just loved the writing and the art design and the whole... insane philosophy of the game.
Also, every character in the game has unique reactions to every power you use. Some even have hard-coded reactions to powers you shouldn't have yet, like Clairvoyance.

's a shame it didn't sell better, though.

Being a completionist completely ruined this game for me.
I should probably finish it someday.

The Witcher, although, no force grip there. :P
