Stupid idea?

I got Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on Wii when it came out however long ago. The precise time eludes my memory, but it isn't important. Shortly after that I discovered that something about me and my personality really clicks with being able to toss around ragdoll people using otherworldy super abilities.

Now the only reason I got it on the Wii is because I didn't have any other console at that time. Now however I own a 360, and while scanning the full list of demos ever released on the marketplace I found a Force Unleashed demo. I eagerly downloaded it, and found to my both joy and dismay that it is much better on 360. It looks better in every way, and as opposed to the wii version where once you kill a helplessly dangling Stormtrooper by boomerang-lightsaber impalement he drops to the floor, on the 360 version you can continue to inflict all sorts of horrible force powers upon said Stormtrooper until such a time as you get bored of torturing him like a fly in a jar.

I'll be honest here. I cheated. I cheated on the Wii version. I cheated so much. I cheated so that I could just use the game as pure stress relief and run around Force Pushing random enemies so hard their face ends up on their ass then disintegrating them with lightning, then...well you get the picture. I tortured people to relieve my own stress.

Now here's where the actual thread comes into it's own. Considering the severe disadvantages the Wii version has to the 360, I've been mulling over selling in my Wii copy and picking up the 360 version. Is this a totally stupid idea when considering that they are, basically, the same game.

Well, the same game aside from that the levels are all different, the gameplay is better on 360, you can torture enemies to an insane degree, and the objects break and react like they should and the enemies try to save themselves, making killing them even more satisfying.

Bear in mind I've been considering doing the same with Assassin's Creed (selling in PC version and getting 360 version).

Is it a good idea

TL;DR - Is it a stupid idea to sell in Wii version or SW:TFU and get 360 version?

Goozex, my friend. Send in your Wii game and queue up for the 360 version.

Doesn't sound stupid to me. If you're going to get your dollar's worth of entertainment there is no reason not to.

Oh good, so I'm not an idiot for selling in a game then buying the exact same game.

As a game it sucks, but as an outlet for stress and aggression it can't be beaten. Any game where you can slam people into walls, launch a lightsaber into their chest then fry their brain stems with lightning is worthy of my time and money

It's not stupid, after playing the WII version I returned it (controls annoyed the crap out of me) and am keeping an eye out for a cheap copy of the 360 version after I tried the demo.

That's the reason I'm sick of it on Wii. So damn annoying to control. I couldn't do any of the really cool stuff half the time. Had to rely on just cheat-maxed force push to rupture their internal organs. Haha

There are major differences between the two versions. The Wii version is actually closer to the PS/2 and PSP versions of the game (with bonus waggle!) than the 360/PS3 versions. Shamelessly borrowed from this (warning: excessively pro-360 stance):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8bIhczKad0

    - In the video youll notice that some dialogue and parts of certain cutscenes were either changed or removed completely from the Wii version (the PROXY vs. Starkiller fight).

    - The Wii offers a unique control scheme that actually works well considering the range of powers available.

    - In the 360 cutscenes, characters move and have facial expressions and lip-syncing. In the Wii version they are usually very static and rarely move with no lip-syncing.

    - The Wii version seems completely devoid of any puzzle solving like the 360.

    - Starkillers lightsaber stance is changed in each version. For the Wii, he holds it like a normal Jedi with the blade in front of him (like a sword). The 360 shows him holding it upside down and at his side which is way more badass.

    - The Wii offers 5 more levels and a multiplayer Duel Mode that is absent from its counterpart.

    - The 360 is working off of the Euphoria engine from Grand Theft Auto IV which makes for some very amusing character animations when using the Force. The Wii, sadly, just couldnt pull that one off.

    - Level designs are drastically altered in both versions as well. The 360 offers some beautiful environments and destructible scenery. The Wiis levels seem very bland and dont offer much visually.

    - The Wiis art style and graphics were done by a completely separate company called Krome.

(These are not my opinions. These are reposted from the comments of the above video. I just thought they were reasonably accurate as far as showing the difference between the two games.)

To be honest I imagine it's hard to look at the two version of this game without ending up with a pro-360 view.

Starkiller's stance was one of the things that dissapointed me in the wii version. I'd only seen 360 and PS3 footage from it before I bought the Wii version and imagine my surprise when instead of looking all badass with his saber when he ran he looked like an awkward gimp.

That Eurphoria engine is definately a big advtange. On the demo 360 version I would just dangle Stormtroopers just within reach of something very heavy, then when they grabbed it I'd launch them at a wall so they get pinned between the wall and the aforementioned heavy thing.

The Wii's levels are pretty...well, boring. There's no other word for it. They're dull and uninteresting. And the Force torture isn't enough to make up for the Wii version's shortcomings. No wonder it got 6.0 from Gamespot as opposed to the 360 version's 7.5

I know I'll get asked "why are you getting the same game you've already got?" and "BUT YOU'VE ALREADY GOT IT!!!" by certain people I know, but the advantages of the 360 version are too much and too awesome to not do it. Besides if I sell in Force Unleashed along with some other games I've been meaning to get rid of it'll reduce the price I'll be paying for the 360 version.

OK, I've decided that it's totally worth it to switch versions of Force Unleashed.

But is it worth it to do the same for Assassin's Creed? Given that the only difference would be purely cosmetic

Assassin's Creed was an absolutely beautiful game on the 360...but, it doesn't really have much in the way of replay value, in my opinion.

Once I finish the game the first time then I'll worry about replay. I've spent about 95% of my time on it just killing people and getting into vastly outnumbered fights with guards. It's another game I use for stress venting.

This would more depend on your computer I think. In general, a decent computer built in 2008 will outclass the PS3/360 on identical games. So far I've only had the opportunity to directly test this on the PS3 with Bioshock and Unreal Tournament III, but I imagine this will hold true in general. You can also always rent these games before doing the trade-in (or d/l demo if available) to see if the improvement is noticeable. Personally, with the exception of Resident Evil 4 I haven't heard of too many multiplatform games being better on the Wii...especially shooter/action games like Force Unleashed. I saw COD-World At War on my roommate's Wii and it looked like shit.

My computer tends to be the excpeption that proves the rule. It's shit. Not to put too fine a point on it. It's just total shit. In technological terms it's the equivalent of an abacus and a box of crayons and I hate it with a burning passion. It's why since I've had my 360 any game that comes out recently that's on both PC and 360 I've had to get it on 360 because 8 times out of 10 my PC won't run it. And on the few games it does run when it decided to take pity on me, I have to tone everything down massively. My brief term of LotRO had me having the settings down so low it looks like Anarchy Online and even then was massively laggy. Assassin's Creed, I have it so there are next to no textures at all and all the character models apart from Altair glitch like hell when ruthlessly murdered. And still there is lag. Not a lot, but if you make Altair start running it becomes like a slideshow.

Even Tom Clancy's Raindbox Six Rogue Spear won't run. Like, at all. Just won't.

That's the extent of the problem I have with my PC in terms of gaming on it. and I figure it's cheaper to re-buy Assassin's creed than it is to spend however-fucking-much fixing my piece of shit computer so it can run it well.

Yea just get it on 360 in that case and stop wasting money on newer pc games that are more complicated that puzzle quest or hello kitty adventure income tax return. It will just be frustrating for you.

I'm not so sure about exchanging games online. Dunno why but it seems a bit dodgy. It probably isn't though. Plus I have more cash in notes than I do in my bank account so it'll be eaiser to do it at GAME or Gamestation or wherever

Well there's some other games I've been meaning to flog since I never even think of playing them any more. And I figure with all those games combined it'll match the price of Force Unleashed. especially if I find a pre-owned copy. Shouldn't be difficult since loads of people hated the game. Assassin's Creed probably won't be too much of a hit to my savings either
