LET'S PLAY: Second Sight
2whqa3b.jpg

Wiki theftery:
Second Sight is an action-adventure video game developed by Free Radical Design and published by Codemasters for Nintendo GameCube, Xbox, PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Windows. It was released on September 21, 2004.

The storyline follows MIT parapsychology researcher John Vattic and his attempts to recover his memory as well as the secrets behind his new powers of telekinesis, mind projection, healing, and possession.

This game came out around the same time as Psi-Ops did, this is by far the better game, there's no Pyrokenesis, but there is a fantastic Sniping system/aiming system, a much better execution and has aged much better.
Has a lot in common graphically with Timesplitters seeing as it's made by the same guys.
This is definately a favorite in my collection and i think a bit of an underappreciated gem and for only £5 on Steam easily grabbed, in fact buy it for a friend aswell or some random fucker you know from the internet!

Plot.
As mentioned above, the game follows John Vattic, he wakes up in a medical facility with no memories, covered in bandages and with some new mental toys to mess around with. The plot is told through a series of playable flashbacks, which tell how he got to where he is at the beginning of the game, but also playing through the present to find out why. Vattic has an arsenal of powers, that get stronger as the game goes on, he can also shoot stuff, but we're all aware how guns work.

I remember playing this game, and having fun until one part where I was stuck. I think I was supposed to sneak past guards, and had the doors lock me in the room instead. If the guards could stand up to multiple headshots, then I would have gotten the clue that I did something wrong

I played the PC version for about an hour before I sold it because the controls are absolute shit. they are console controls shoehorned into a keyboard/mouse mold.

Hey, sorry to clutter the thread, but I remember a game kind of similar to this in that you played a psychic guy with powers, but this was free, I've heard you guys talk about it a few times here but I can't remember it. I appreciate it guys.

    Okay thanks guys.

Second Sight is a great, great game with a FAR better story, but I'm going to have to disagree that it's gameplay was better than Psi-Ops. Psi-Ops handles telekinesis much better, and subsequently has a better usage of physics. Plus, unlike Second Sight, you can use your powers at the same time (guns too!) without needing special key combinations. Picking a dude up, lighting him on fire, bashing his head a couple times, then flinging him at other mans is just so much more satisfying.

Though I will grant you that Aura Beasts can die in a fire. A psychically-enhanced fire.

I'm definitely gonna have to watch these tonight, I played some of it on the PS2 and enjoyed it but I'm really bad. Sneaking is tough for me, it felt sort of like they took Psi-Ops, MGS, and Timesplitters then mashed them all together into one weird action game.

In light of your well-deserved hatred of the training mission, you should probably enjoy the fact that, after you finish all the pistol shooting range crap and get to the course a second time, you can find an assault rifle in on of the rooms in the barracks with real bullets and start killing people instead of pricking them with darts.

You lose the training mission though...

    MIT parapsychology

Haha, I'm pretty sure we don't have any such department. Unless it's one of the secret ones no one knows about in the underground tunnels.

    Those tunnels go on forever.

    On-topic:

I've tried playing this game so many times due to the good things I've heard about it. But I've never got past the first level exactly for the reasons of the controls. I'll be sure to watch through this LP.

Which is the better of the two: Second Sight or Psi-Ops? I haven't tried the latter but also heard good things.

Both are good, but for different reasons. I mentioned it above, but I really think that Psi-Ops has the better gameplay. The integration of psychic powers with your regular movements gives you a lot more freedom in kicking ass. I've spent hours in the training room alone just messing with the physics and tossing stuff around. Of course, Psi-Ops's plot is B-Movie at best. Second Sight does indeed have a much better story, and is a lot more suspenseful rather than straight run-n-gun.

Ultimately, you should be able to find both for really cheap, and they're both worth it. Plus, if you don't mind ads:

Second Sight has such an amazingly told story that it's a shame the individual missions are so incoherently structured. The one where you go
Into the office/agency building to find evidence. Which you eventually get by finding a random computer to play a video in a mini-movie/lecture theatre in a another part of the building.

it is completely incomprehensible as to what your objectives should be. I spent days wandering around, trying to go up lifts, mug every operative, etc. Pissed me off so much I had to use Gamefaqs to find out what I had to do. I put the game down again when I got stuck trying to get into a secret bunker and the only interactible item (that I could see) didn't interact with me. I should gamefaq again because the story is sooo good I want to know how it ends/begins.

Well, looks like im sticking with Youtube.
Vimeo screwed the video and im not waiting 5 hours to find that out everytime i upload.
Megavideo is maze like i can't even find the upload, if it exists.
Viddler won't let me log in.

    Youtube works! i'll use it!

Second Sight is the better game and you CAN shoot people whilst using powers.

Managed to squeeze in the first video before work this morning... good stuff!

Made me put it on my (just signed up!) Gamefly queue to give it a try sometime. Or I might just buy it if I happen to be in Gamestop and see it used. Looks very cool.

In the meantime, however, I'll definately keep watching.
