just had the most satisfying win against a fireball happy akuma, one of the match-ups i need more work with on chun. Final round, down to a sliver on both sides, he does a jump in air fireball, I dash under and throw him on the landing, it was perfect.
edit: and the most annoying match vs a shitty guile who i would have beat 8 times over if my wakeup ultra would come out! arg!!!
I hate your Guile, I do not know what to do as Blanka or Boxer.
Thanks, but you were pretty darn good with your Blanka on pretty much everyone I played as...
It was the same thing most the time though, on wake up I will either hop through you are back. I played a Fei Long after that who could sweep me and somehow hit me after I hopped (although it was laggy) so that could be an option. Honestly though not a lot works against that since I mix it up, not sure what the protip here is.
Thanks for the kind words, but after that incredible beat down it kinda feels like that's all they are
I'll keep working on actually giving you a challenging opponent, one win from 10 doesn't really feel like I'm doing much more than boring you. I'll queue you up in a week or so!
Also, Gen is really really hard to play. He was in SF3 too right?
he was in SF1, but not playable... then later in the Alpha series...
and he seems overly complicated to play... i kinda wonder why they bothered with him.
I'd say with Gen just start out with his mantis stance - his jumps are too good and coupled with his awesome air normals means you can jump over fireballs and do cross-ups very easily.
His scrub combo (I call it scrub because that's the only thing I can do) : HP, Lightning Hands HP can do pretty good damage.
He also has a good fast focus attack with decent range.
He also rarely needs EX meter so you can store it to do super combos.
Obviously, if you want to explore him, you'll also need to use his Crane stance and be able to mix it up between Crane and Mantis.
But if you're just starting out, the mantis stance can easily obliterate opponents.
Not... really.
Crane I find gives people more of a hard time. That is if you know how to use crane.
But mantis is good too. Just learn to use both effectively.
Is there a trick to block Vegas crrrrazy cross ups? It seems like he will jump off the wall, I'll predict where he'll be, block that way, but oh wait, last minute hes slightly behind or in front of me and I get smacked. Ah vega, you long reached son of a b.
I like this game, and I have been putting off the pringles mod for some reason. Which is why I havent been playing for about a week cause I want to play only after this is done and to see If I mess up less executions or if it helps with quick execution.
If so then I shall retake Dhalsim and SMITE you with Instant teleport mindgames until you break your arcade stick. I will laugh while playing with my curly mustache...

Godamnit, we ended up with nearly 60 people showing up, which was way more than confirmed. That place was packed, and the tourney took all day and well into the night even running on 4+ stations. Fortunately, the SF guys brought their own camera, so I didn't have to record (and they only got finals for some reason), which was lucky since after all my SC4 matches, team battles, and money matches I was out of battery life and I'd filled up my 8 gig memory card. It was fun enough playing, too; I got matched up with another SC4 player from Buffalo who'd played the game like 3 times (2.5 times more than me), and we wowed the crowd by donking it up on the main TV while I tried to do Ken's ultra with qcf, qcf, KKK and he tried the most obvious ultra baits with his Dan that you could ever want to imagine. Good times, and when we do it again in a few weeks I can only imagine even more people, which will be insane.

Focus absorb it and dash toward them for whatever BnB combo you have or away if you want the distance. Watch out for the Izuna drop, though. It's difficult to do on grounded opponents, but it's still very much possible.
You can also stuff it all together by jumpback fierce or roundhouse. It's a bit of a gamble, what with the izuna drop being much easier to do in air, but it should work for the most part.
This is patently false. Balrog has more ways to deal with fireballs than any other character in the game. His TAP goes though fireballs and hits from mid-screen. His headbutt goes through fireballs, gets closer to the opponent, and still retains your back charge. And on top of THAT, you have 5 EX rush punches that will go through almost all non-EX fireballs, 2 of which are fast and unpunishable on block if spaced correctly, one that must be blocked high, and one that must be blocked low. Also, two of them break armor. If someone is dumb enough to throw a fireball at you from closer than half screen, you literally have 2 good options without meter, and 6 with.

But after he fireballs they learned to start doing that armor breaking kick after which knocks me on my ass. So I tried to be smart and block it so now I am in their face but I am not sure what to do from there, jabs and c.hk worked great but I still lost.
Arde: I dig your Fuerte. I went Blanka that last round to see how you punish forward balls. I like it. My two mains are Fuerte and Sagat. I also need to get better at punishing whiffed air attacks using Fuerte. Right now I do a FA then trip. I like yours better.

I was trying to ultra the blocked horizontal and vertical balls - i mistimed the vertical one and failed on the horizontal one (came out EX guacamole instead)
@Skutskut: sorry, Skut - seems like the netcode doesn't want us playing one another. :x
Is that guy yelling to himself while he records it?
DSP's kinda douchey and that's also his way to promote himself in youtube i guess.
Whenever he loses it's practically always a rant about lag and how his character isn't doing moves he meant to do. You can hear a little in those above matches when he complains about blocking.

Gen vs Dictator: Mantis c. mp when he's about to headstomp you, and he will land harmlessly behind you eager to eat any combo you desire.
Properly timed Crane c.hk will beat even EX headstomp.
Bicycle Kick and Crane Super/Ultra will also punish it.
I've always had trouble using the crouching punch to dodge (though it does fun things to teleports) so I try to beat him out or go for a trade.
I have to try using that crane c.hk more often. I barely use the thing.
The bicycle kick I always tend to time wrong against the head stomp and trade or whiff. The Crane Ultra I definitely don't use enough unless I'm playing a Vega or someone that's crazy jump-happy.
The crouching mantis punch is something I tend to use all the time in regular play. I almost always use that as my poke even with better options (mantis mk). My finger is usually hovering above that button on the pad so it'll be something I can use easily in that situation.
Man...there's still so much I have to learn about Gen. My game with him got alot better (went from 800-1.5ish). It feels like I just have his basics down now. I tried using the crane c.fp tonight. It's a ridiculous poke but the icing on the cake is it builds stun up SO FAST. I landed a few lucky hits with it, but nothing consistent unless it was a helicopter kick.

I don't know why I tried but I attempted to rank up and failed horribly. I lost about 8 in a row with Blanka against all sub 500 people. Went from like 1200 to 800 I think. No matter what I did I could not win. I would pull of some incredible fucking mind games with people, I should be a fucking magician, and then they would just come back with one or two comboes for half my health. Ryu going from a hurricane kick that knocks me out of a ball into a fierce uppercut for half my health is fun. Well 6 broken objects in my room later I am done for the night. I think I might need to purchase some spackle.
Its like I am a dude in a wheelchair and all these people I play online are olympic athletes with how they make their characters move. I am just struggling to pull off an ultra and this sagat is going TK, TK, TK, TU until I am in the fucking corner and then he butt fucks me. How do I stop this? TK has priority over ALL of blankas moves and he is so incredibly quick. When I play Sagat it is a fight to get off two in a row but this guy was dashing exing wavedashing, linking cancleing and turboing into my face with knees and uppercuts. And he was terrible. He would whiff uppercuts all the time and when I punished it was like it did not even matter as it took off so little health by the end he would be missing 2/3rds and I would be dead and the only mistake I made was well I do not know what I did wrong I do not think I did anything obviously wrong. I tried offense and that failed he trapped me in a corner and kept sweeping me the cancle electricity and when I tried to jump he hit me so I was stuck and there was nothing I could do. Every time I would ball he would hitstun me out of it.
Maybe I just need a more relaxing game to play, once that doesn't remind me of how much I fail at everything I attempt.

Any time I play after midnight, I lose a lot of BP. I think I am playing vs Japanese people at that hour. Don't feel too bad, just play again tomorrow.
I don't really care about BP I just want to win and it is insane how lucky these guys are getting. I will be holding block and Ryus ultra hit me twice while I was holding block. Or that Sagat guy who was terribad and almost perfected me, that was fun.

SF4 is really not a game you should be playing tired.
I am still wide awake, but very frustrated. I am doing quite good with Boxed I just need a better understanding of his moves. Oh and fuck Sagat, he is beastly.
So all the dash attacks absorb one hit correct? How do the EX versions differ? TAP goes through a fireball on start up and thats it? I am having an immense amount of trouble with mp I can't seem to get it to ever work, on the other hand head but is near godly.
Oh and fuck cammy she is an ungodly bitch. It appears that all of her moves knock Boxer out of his and if I ever dash all the enemy has to do is pull out on ultra.
