I've been looking to supplement my income using some of the time I am wasting on the internet.
Internet searches of course yield a lot of crap, 90% of it appears to be scams. I know a lot of people out there would love to be able to work from their home phone/PC so it can't be easy to find things.
Has anyone made any legitimate monetary gains working from home for an internet based employer?

Where do you live? I work for a hotel chain that is outsourcing their call centers to work at home. You do need your own internet and phone line, along with a monitor, but the pay and job ain't too bad(as long as you don't mind retail) and you get the employee rates on lots of hotels.
I paid my rent for a couple months doing freelance journalism. I had to slurp an aaaaaaawful lot of butt though, writing puff pieces for trade magazines.

I'm self-employed making costumes for cosplayers and make a decentish profit off of it, though not yet enough to live off of. If you have a hobby and know people are willing to pay you to do stuff for them, check out the possibility of turning that into a business.
On the subject of death and daemons disappearing: arrows sure are effective in Lyra's universe. Seems like if you get shot once, you're dead - no lingering deaths with your daemon huddling pitifully in your arms, just *thunk* *argh* *whoosh*. A battlefield full of the dying would just be so much more depressing when you add in wailing gerbils and dogs.

If you're in Tampa or Dallas area send me a line.
Be aware that most of these jobs require you to pay for your own phone line that will not be used during "working hours" for any purpose but sending calls to your phone. In most cases, you have to have a TDM phone (no Vonage or phone through your ISP). You need to make sure you have a quiet working space from which to take the calls, so you can't just do it in your living room.
The place I looked into was Alpine Access. Because they're located in Colorado, they require that you pay not only for a phone line, but one with unlimited long-distance. They are also very seasonal in their staffing needs (big spike from September through January, lots of layoffs from February to August unless you have been assigned to a steady account).
It's not for everyone and it's not everything it's cracked up to be, but if you're not able/interested in working outside the home, it could be a good fit.

Thank you, Rubacava!
